Night Arcade (2024) Illustrator: Nelnal
judas was probably like "jesus has pulled off so many wacky things, he'll get out of this one lickity split, and i get three shiny coins out of it, too"
academic dishonesty is not something you can spin as moral lol i do not want to share a career field let alone a social sphere with a bunch of chatgpt using ass bitches
"you're just scared your diploma is going to devalue" i'm afraid you dumb bitches are going to become my colleagues and drag social services to hell
I'm afraid they'll become scientists and data that lives depend on will turn out to be wrong - and people will die.
I'm afraid they'll become engineers and sign off on bridge designs that collapse - and people will die.
I'm afraid they'll become medical professionals who don't know what they're doing - and people will die.
The assumption that academic dishonesty is okay is rooted in the idea that what you're learning to do doesn't matter.
How would you describe a dragon to someone who has never seen a dragon?
"Horse but make it a lizard and give it bat wings and horns"
didnt know how to interpret "make it a lizard" so i wrote lizard and drew an arrow pointing to the horse so people know its a lizard. Also didn't know what bat horns were so I gave it a horned bat nose
"A body like a big cat but completely covered in scales, the head of a crocodile with the horns of an ibex, and the wings of a bat on its back"
On it boss o7, ive mashed all these animals together and threw scales all over it. This the dragon you saw?
"Take a lizard, extend the neck. Add a pair of bat wings to the back. Add horns and sharp teeth."
Seems like we're onto somethin' boss! Though idk how it'd be so fearsome bein such a small thing.
"Big-ass lizard with wings" "big lizard" "Giant lizard" "Big fucking lizard"
don't seem too special?
"Imagine a winged alligator that was 70 feet tall and aware of its existence"
i dont know if this is a dragon but it could definitely be some kind of god
"Dinosaur with wings and horns?"
Dunno which dino you were talkin about so i just picked a random one. Stegosauus :}
"Big snake with legs and horns that can breathe fire"
Ah. Hm.
"A dragon is like a tree, in that it's a made up category for a broadly similar type of mythological creature that has no relationship to other dragons, but you know a dragon when you see one the way you know a tree when you see one."
isn't this literally how canto 8 went
You had to be there
Itâs funny⊠Ramb refer to the Mantle game as being more âfreeâ than the restrictive and railroady âLegend of Tennaâ. Calling it âthe original game, where you decide what to doâ is obviously supposed to call into mind Undertale, and so do the designs of the enemies.
But⊠how âfreeâ is it, really?
Tenna removed the sword-based combat and replaced it with more âwholesomeâ activities like puzzles and quizzes that progress in a fairly-linear order but⊠the âoriginal gameâ was nothing but combat. Fighting is something you have no choice but to do if you want to progress the game. In fact, you have to literally follow orders the game tells you.
This is obviously a huge contrast to Undertale, and Deltarune's Weird Route, as well as the Dragon Blazerz game that seems to have been the in-universe inspiration to this game (as well as kind of an Undertale parallel in its own right).
All of these feature a choice between being a Horrible Murderbastard and solving conflicts through other means to some degree. The Mantle Game is a one where you have to be violent, you basically donât have a choice.
Sure, I guess you can go to any screen youâd like and decide to fight the enemies in whatever order you want⊠but by this metric, even âLegend of Tennaâ had some degree of non-linearity in terms of which puzzles you do when or the order you pick up keys/take photos. I guess comparatively, Mantle has more freedom of movement, but it also had it's own progression-based roadblocks.
Even when you can upgrade your sword to go âout of boundsâ in the Mantle Game, thereâs really only one thing to find and one thing to do there.
If anything, you can argue that Tennaâs game is a lot more âfreeâ, because Tenna replaced the in-game combat with regular Deltarune battles⊠which do allow you to choose between different violent and non-violent options.
Iâve often said that Deltaruneâs central theme is less âyour choices donât matterâ and more like âdo your choices matter?â, "what makes your choices matter?" and this feels like an extension of that. How many roadblocks does a game need before it starts feeling truly railroady?
How do games sell you the illusion of freedom, and what do they need to do to make it truly convincing?
Does a game that allows you to do a violence actually feel more âfreeâ than non-violent game, even if theyâre both equally restrictive in terms of your interactions?
And of course, neither of these games have any ounce of âFreedomâ from Krisâ perspective. Because violence or pacifism, puzzles or swords, they never get to be the one in control.
Limbus Company paintings (Canto 3, 5, 7)
Currently going through Canto 8 and the original novel is my favorite out of them all, canât wait to draw something for it!

okay okay I know the point of this is âWhite people need to put as much effort into learning how to pronounce Black peopleâs names as they do foreign European namesâ and 100% I totally agree, absolutely good point

guillermo del toroâs pinocchio is a beautiful film but my god no one has adapted that story like neverafter. you can never look at it the same way again after listening to lou wilson, a black man, explaining that he chose to play as pinocchio because itâs a story about a little boy who isnât allowed to make mistakes. that in pinocchio's story, he is fundamentally barred from childhood at once upon a time. he must earn something that everyone else is granted from birth. the other boys get to tell lies and play and get into trouble, but when pinocchio does the same thing there are grave and violent consequences. his pinocchio is trying to understand why the world is so unfair, why the rules are so different for him, why everyone else gets to be a real boy.
and I think about it every day.
