i wish white women would decentralize themselves more often and listen to women of color when we’re talking about social justice issues. abortion bans are not only about having control over people’s bodies, or at least, there’s more to it than that.

the idea is that an injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.

a racial injustice indubitably, somehow, will tie back into a gender issue. you shouldn’t only care about sociopolitical injustice when it effects you directly, but it’s come to my attention that a lot of you lack basic empathy.

the great replacement theory says that white people will eventually be overtaken in number by the black population. white men fear not having enough babies (soldiers) to uphold white supremacy. these men don’t care ab babies; they’re actively using you as incubators for an impending race war.

banning abortion is also an act of class warfare. living is expensive. they refuse to raise minimum wage. they refuse to give us free healthcare. so, what’s the consequence of that? we’ve stopped having children.

covid caused hundreds of thousands of people to lose their lives—for politicians, for businessmen, for capitalists, this means the economy needs more workers. they need more people to sign up for more shifts to feed their children. they need more babies to grow up and eventually become laborers. they need more babies to sell at adoption centers.

my point is that, these issues are all interconnected. classism, racism, and the patriarchy are not just systems of oppression that operate individually. they hold each other up. it’s like an infection—the police, banking, schools; the same country that bipoc have been warning the world about for years, while being ignored by said world, is the same country that snatched up your right to have an abortion.

In fandom minors will interact with adult spaces online when asked not to, will lie about their age to read/write smut or interact with nsfw authors/artists, will make heavily sexual comments about characters like Toji or Kakashi, but will cry and throw a fit if you take a character who is a minor in their and purposefully age them up and make them an obvious adult. They’re so so, SO incredibly stupid and hypocritical.

exactly. it's just this weird level of hypocrisy in which they fail to separate fiction from reality unless it is in their favor. not to mention the amount of times these same minors break dni rules for their own self-satisfaction.

i just personally think it's a situation where common sense should be used and it seems a lot of people are lacking that.

bc the fact is... they're RIGHT when they say there is nothing wrong with them simping for adult characters. but not for the reason they think. it's fine for them to do BECAUSE they are fake AND because (like i said in my recent long post abt it) they are projecting the qualities they like onto someone befitting of themselves in their head.

in short every argument made against aging up uses the same basic logical fallacies. slippery slope, generalization, and assumption . the implication that every person who ages up fictional characters either is a danger to minors or is attracted to them in some way despite their being no empirical evidence or definitive way to conclude that about a person is, point blank, a bad faith argument.

fictional characters are not people - they're story telling devices. therefore they have no agency and cannot be effected by anything that happens to them. they're closer to a concept than a person. they're not real, they have no stake in real life - and the things we do with them are entirely made up. the argument should end there.

"but why age them up and not use *already adult character*" they are different character that accomplish different things. you wouldn't use blue to paint the sun

"im a minor and it makes me uncomfortable," i was a minor but im an adult now and i don't want to engage with any minors in this particular space which is why it's labelled 18+. most adults don't want to engage with minors over nsfw either. if someone does try to engage with or lure you with nsfw content knowing you're a minor, you are in danger and you should seek out a trusted person in your life to talk to and block said person. my job online isn't to make you comfortable and that experience is not indicative of every person online.

"why're you justifying having a crush on *canon minor character*" im in no way shape or form explicitly attracted to this character because he's a minor so there's not a crush to justify. im a person consuming a piece of media, and this character engages my interest and is drawn to be good looking. so i take him and engage with him in a way i like - that is how media consumption works. as an adult because im an adult.

even if we took sex/nsfw/romantic context out of the equation because that's normally what this argument centers on - i almost always contextualize characters in adulthood because that's the stage of life im in.

"why're you aging up a character just to sexualize them," im not. im aging them up because it develops their character in my mind and i find them more relatable. even if i did it wouldn't matter because it still means im transforming that character into an adult.

your assumption that people use this weird roundabout to justify their attraction to kids is based on the idea that actual predators and dangerous people online don't have spaces that are easily accessible and that their specific target is fandom.

"what about characters who are drawn as explicitly as children and meant to be depicted as children? is it okay then?" i find it deeply uncomfortable to age up a character who's next stage of life isn't already adulthood since it jumps through a lot of hoops. it's a boundary im unwilling to cross as it is for many others. if somoene does something i find unsavory, i block them.

at a certain point, ever single possible moral gray for this argument becomes bad faith. to break it down any further than necessary is simply a way to foster a "gotcha sicko!" moment instead of contributing intelligence to this conversation. people aren't actually looking to understand what this is or to break it down, they're just unwilling to think critically for fear of being morally ostracized by internet communities.

i hate to inform you, but having all the "right takes," will not save you from internet crucifixion. the sooner you have strong boundaries and morals in real life, the easier your life will be instead of trying to gain moral highground on random people online.

fiction indeed effects reality - but fiction isn't an inherent one to one to who someone is. fictions relationship to reality in relation to things like propaganda, and those affects all require additional context.

im in a stable relationship with a man i've been with for 5 years. he is a year older than me. i consume content about toxic relationships all day long. because what i do, what i find interesting, what i engage with are not inherent to who i am.

just like how watching a violent movie doesn't make you a violent person. just like how reading a book from a problematic writer doesn't mean you condone their actions. does everyone person who makes freud jokes agree with the things he was? you can have perceived correlations, bias is human nature but you can't decide anything definitively over something as trivial as fandom content on the internet.

morality and real life are largely based on context and awareness of the world. a man can be a murderer, but there is a stark difference between a man killing his abuser and a serial killer. your opinion of these people is formed and shaped by what context you know about them and evidence. real people have context necessary to make fully formed opinions on them and are effected by internet witch hunts.

and it is, your right, to not engage with someone based on a perceived context. but making assumptions and accusations as serious as p*dophilia is unbelievably dangerous and not rooted in anything.

when you create moral boundaries between you and someone else, assume the worst of them, you are creating a type of person to be othered. that line of thinking has been used for hundreds of years to commit acts of violence against unassuming people and it is dangerous.

"it's not that deep," it sure isn't. which is why you shouldn't fucking harass strangers you have no real context for. which is why the concept of aging up a character cannot be indicative of a persons morals and doesn't mean someone is attracted to kids.

if you want to have a talk minor safety online, there are plenty of ways to do that. there are plenty of conversations to be had about how adults and minors should engage appropriately.

but adults cultivating a space for themselves and other adults has little to do with minors. and unless you can prove, without doubt, that the person you're engaging with is bad - it's not your place to enact your perceived justice.

i would understand if there was some provable evidence in relation to fandom communities but there just isn't. the things that happen in this spaces have no effect on real minors unless minors are in the spaces they're not supposed to be in anyways.

aging up is a narrative tool, just like au's are. just like backstories are. we're all playing make believe and aging up a fictional character doesn't mean someone is a predator. end of story.

i’ve been on and off tumblr for 12 years and been involved in countless fandoms. but the one problem that seems to occur in all fandoms across the board is the vile treatment of black content creators.

comments range from overt to “polite” racism.

“xyz wouldn’t date a black girl”

“does reader HAVE to be black?”

why do black people have to fight to enjoy the same content as everyone else??? why are we vilified for wanting to see ourselves in the media we consume???

and not to point fingers, but there are far too many white folk in fandoms who see this behavior and say nothing. who watch their black mutuals get hateful anon one after the other and stay silent. who consume content made by black folk day in and day out but are conveniently quiet when black folk are being abused (yes i’m talking about all y’all who were blasting WAP last summer and ignore issues facing the black community)

y’all love to consume black content (tiktok trends, music, fashion, AAVE, the list goes on) but ignore the humanity of black people.

y’all need to fucking do better bc i’m fucking tired.

I’ve included a very comprehensive list, organized by the type of body movement, hand and arm movements, facial expressions etc. In some cases, a phrase fits more than one heading, so it may appear twice. Possible emotions are given after each BL phrase unless the emotion is indicated within the phrase. (They are underlined for emphasis, not due to a hyperlink.)

Note: I’ve included a few body postures and body conditions as they are non-verbal testimony to the character’s physical condition.

im sorry but the person who sent that ask, sounds like a white woman trying to set up and pit other women of color against black women & i, for one, am tired of that shit. white supremacy has pit people of color against black people for the longest, the history shows how white people purposely divide our communities. it literally all stems back to white people and white supremacy.

i read this book, it’s called “White Tears Brown Scars: How White Feminism Betrays Women of Colour” by Ruby Hamad. It goes into detail about how white women are entitled and use their femininity as a weapon due to the fact that white men will always hold more power then them. They still find a way to abuse black women and other woc, just by being white women and being “the beauty standard” (ex, European beauty standards, etc)

God forbid black women create safe spaces for themselves, right? I cant imagine the exhausting fucking battle black women face every single day. Y’all deserve the world and fucking more. It genuinely bothered me that they just HAD to include other races of women because I’m tired of being put against black women, that shit was so unprovoked. Half the time people don’t care about our issues anyways, they only bring up other women of color when y’all want to argue with black women. Stop using Asian women, latina women, native women to try and argue against black women, cause at the end of the day, I’m going to defend Black women. i don’t think anons realize that aging up characters even if the universe is separate from the canon media, is like creating a timeskip or another fictional universe in which the fictional characters portrayed are adults, take haikyuu for example, ya’ll gon get mad about the original creators making them 27 bc they felt like it because the characters are fictional?? make it make sense

i could have gone into an entire explanation for that anon (and the other nasty one that showed up in my inbox afterward) about why i -- and the vast majority of people i’ve met on this app -- think writing aged up characters is perfectly acceptable and valid. 

my thoughts boil down to pretty much what you said. we take these characters and morph them into something new. we’re not writing about the canon characters, who are 15-16 years old and in high school. in all of my fics, i’m writing about fully grown men, adults who are either working or in college. these fully grown men i write about are, physically and emotionally, well into adulthood. that’s apparent in all of my fics.

and i can do that. i can pick facets of characters’ personalities that i like and project them onto my version of them in adulthood. i can age them up and portray them as adults in my own fictional alternate universe. why? because they are fictional. in what way does writing porn about men who are well into their 20s, with all the physical and emotional characteristics of a 20+ year old, make me a pedophile? how am i sexualizing minors by writing porn of a 20+ year old?

that’s it. i’m not. creating and consuming nsfw content of aged up characters doesn’t hurt anyone. especially not pixels on a screen. 

i could have taken the time to type this out for those anons, but really, i don’t feel like explaining myself to someone who’s going to call me a pedophile for writing porn of a 20+ year old character. those anons are clearly are lacking the basic fundamentals to grasp what constitutes pedophilia and what doesn’t. i don’t owe them an explanation, and neither do any of the other nsfw creators on this app. it’s not like they’d listen anyway.

reminder that using the word “blushes” on “Y/N” takes away a big chunk of poc who cannot “blush”. AKA : can’t be seen because of their melanin.

A substitute to make it more suitable for everyone is “ your cheeks rose in heat”, “their cheeks felt hot” or something along those lines that doesn’t describe their color or shade<3.

also goes for hair, using the word “silky” makes the writing way less inclusive for everyone. Since not everyone has long straight hair..

no it’s not a “problem” but personally for me I know how it doesn’t even make the reader feel like me. These are just tips on how to be more inclusive to everyone.
