It wasn’t exactly a shock; he was making her cheeks rosy again and she didn’t mind one bit of it. Of course, she had minded the part where he had probably taken notice of them multiple times but then again, maybe it was for the best. There was no one that had made her heart feel safe like he did, or at least, whole. It was more than clear that they had enjoyed each other’s company, but of course there had to be more than that. Kassie glanced back over towards him, growing slightly impatient at a feeling that she couldn’t even grasp. She had no idea what any of her attraction towards him meant, but she knew it was an amazing feeling. He deserved the best, but she didn’t wanna do anything do jeopardize whatever they had now. It was too important to her. As she perched up her chin from the palm of her hand, her brown orbs soon dropped down to take notice of his features. He was certainly attractive, of course, but it was as if in that moment she had mentally noted that there was definitely something more to the attraction than his looks. “Really? ‘Cause I can get pretty emo when I wanna be,” she admitted with a soft chuckle, snapping out of her gaze as she averted her attention back to him. “Right—well I’m glad you denied ‘cause then I would’ve been super pissed and probably would’ve crashed the wedding,” Kassie teased with a shrug of her shoulders. “Bring it on. Cheesy chick-flicks aren’t really my thing, so clearly you’re losing all ready. Don’t get me wrong, I love a good ‘Titanic’ to shed a few tears but you can never go wrong with some classic Tom Cruise. Oh so you’re a ‘Netflix and Chill’ kinda guy, huh?” she quirked up a brow, a laugh immediately emerging out of her lips. “—there could’ve been worse names, so I’ll take it,” Kassie shook her head in defeat, her mouth granting the perfect ‘o’ shape at his next move. The brunette’s jaw was practically on the floor, her brows raised in utter shock. Biting the inside of her cheek, she couldn’t help but take a peek down herself—after all, it seemed almost impossible to avoid it. “You definitely win,” she responded, her tone laced with amusement and still a heaping amount of shock. “Maybe by the end of the night. If you’re lucky, that is.”
Perhaps, a part of her hadn’t wanted things to change, but there was also a part of her that wanted to take a leap of faith, to make him feel some sort of hope she had for so long now. It was obvious that her moves weren’t exactly clear—but she had to be getting through to him, and that was exactly her plan - it had always been. “Right,” she nodded, her lips curling up into an even softer smile. “—if getting you drunk was what it took then I’m happy you decided to spill a milkshake on me tonight,” Kassie admitted with a chuckle, quirking her head in his direction just as the word flew out of his mouth. “So there’s an us?” she quizzed, her brows raised in amusement. As she ranked her fingers through her raven locks, Kassie downed another shot before her orbs dropped down to his lips. “You’re too sweet to me,” was all she said in return, her tone barely above a whisper as she moved closer, her lips inches away from his, almost daring him to kiss her without saying it out loud. Maybe it was the liquor in her system or the long overdue pending feelings she had for him in the pit of her stomach, but she had to do something about it. As the silence progressed between them, the brunette felt almost eager for it. Kassie couldn’t wait any longer, she had to take a leap of faith.“Kiss me.”
Tonight felt a bit different from all of their other nights together. Sure, the dynamics were the same; but there was something off, in the least unsettling way, at least. His face dropped for a moment. The thought of Kassie in any negative mood made him shift in his seat. Of course, he realized that everyone had their moments — but it was one of those moments he hoped he’d never see, or at least, be able to change. Joking or not, the thought of her smile disappearing made him pout. Catching the change in his expression fast enough, Denver tightened his lips in a line before smacking them together. “No emo Kassie tonight, alright? If I’ve got to get wasted, I want to see nothing but a smile on your face, okay? Maybe some tears — from laughing too hard or something.” With his bottom lip trapped between his teeth, Denver tried to keep from smiling. The insane thought of Kai and Denver’s wedding already made himlife, but to throw in an angry Kassie to the mix only made him wonder the result of it all. “Oh, he was crushed. But I knew I couldn’t keep stringing him along.” The mention of the infamous ‘Netflix & Chill’ brought a roll of laughter, “Fine, it doesn’t have to be a chick-flick, but I also demand no Tom Cruise. Meet me in the middle here, yeah? And there is no way you’re getting me to watch Titanic. I…tend to be a crier.” Through his admittance, Denver snickered and shrugged in some sort of defeat. The reaction he received from the girl as he lifted his shirt sent a shiver down his spine; the goosebumps rising on his skin the product of her gaze. “I’d argue and say it’s unfair that I’m the only one half naked, but I think I’ll save that complaint for later tonight. If I’m lucky, that is.”
He felt his eyes roll slightly as he fought the grin that settled on his features. “I said I was sorry, right? About the whole milkshake thing? I’m pretty sure I even offered to buy you another a couple of times so I can’t really be blamed anymore,” the slight, playful defense he put up brought a soft chortle to pass his lips. Another shot brought to his lips, the man let his eyes wander around the room as he squinted his eyes — “Did I…did I say us?” Their playful nature continuing, Denver was a bit concerned with himself. Of course, he said that. The thought of them being anything but friends had been on the back of his mind all night, almost every night they were together the past month. But as he felt her lean into him, as her breath hit heavy against his lips, Denver clenched his jaw and swallowed hard. Eyes dropping to her lips, he fully captured the image in his mind. As soon as they parted to speak, he felt as if he couldn’t breathe. Her demand made his airways tighten. Holy fuck, he wanted to kiss her. Now that the opportunity presented itself, he wasn’t about to hesitate and fuck it all up. His finger lifted her chin up to his lips to press against hers. The taste of whiskey was fresh on her tongue as his found a small entrance into hers. Their lips overlapping softly in swift movements, Denver was reluctant to pull away. “Kass,” he breathed against her cheek. “Am I that drunk or did you tell me to kiss you? Because I don’t want to stop.”
