Las Vegas, July 21, 1953, was the hottest day of the year, hitting 113°F. Las Vegas News Bureau assembled over thirty entertainers and showgirls for an afternoon group shot in the desert, promoting "the entertainment capital of the world."

The seven in the front row represented the Strip's seven major resorts. In the front row: Milton Berle (performing at the Sands), Anna Maria Alberghetti (Sahara), Red Skelton (Sahara), Gale Storm (Thunderbird), Vic Damone (El Rancho Vegas), Spike Jones (Flamingo), and Herb Shriner (Last Frontier). Missing is Desert Inn's Betty Hutton.

The exact location is unknown. They're facing southwest with North McCullough range in the distance.
