I would love for there to be a tool on wikipedia that lets you easily make one of those bar charts that show overlapping durations, but takes as entries like anything with a fixed beginning and end.

on wikipedia I mostly encounter these charts (timeline charts? not sure what they're properly called...like visually similar to a Gantt chart but without the actual dependencies) in articles about bands, where they show the tenures of every member of the band, which are sometimes discontinuous.

so first of all I'd like a tool where you can enter any person who has a wikipedia page with a birth date and death date in their biographical inbox, so you can look at e.g. how much overlap there was between the lifespans of a handful of authors.

but the really cool version would be one that easily admits a bunch of unlike durations. think like...the lifespan of Ernest Hemingway, the existence of the USSR, and the original run of Car Talk.

idk I think you could use this to make some very contrived graphs.
