Tuesday, September 24th was certainly a day for volunteers at the farm! We had members of the Eco Reps program, a group of four friends, and three of the new Presidential Ambassadors come out to help weed and harvest. 

The crops of the day were potatoes, beets, and yellow pear tomatoes. It was noted early on in our day that the beets had the resemblance of Mandrakes from Harry Potter. Bonus finds were caterpillars, worms, and beautiful weather.

The DePauw women's basketball team--NCAA champions--biked out to the campus farm to help harvest. It was great to have an entire athletic team out there working together. Hey! Our farm is doing wonderfully. Better than we could have ever hoped at the beginning of the year. We are picking and producing food at an amazing rate! If you are lucky enough to be back on campus already you may have been eating some of our food prepared at the hub.

I'm back!

So sorry about the lack of posts the past few weeks I was away adventuring through the northern wilderness and learning about the environment firsthand. Fear not though, many updates will be coming in the next few days! The farm has been doing fantastic and we are picking all of the veggies we can carry. Pictures and info to come! Hope you all have had a fantastic summer!

Today we started harvesting green beans. We'll be sending this bunch to a Greencastle food pantry.

We are so excited to be harvesting food. Last week we sent 127 pounds of produce to DePauw Dining Services.

The harvest!

Fruits are in! We finished up about half the fence today and it is finally time to start picking and weighing! The tomatoes are turning beautiful shades of red and the summer squash are huge. It's gonna be an excellent turnout this year!

Things are growing!

It is almost harvesting time. We have some Jalapeños,  swiss shard, beets, and shortly we will have tomatoes too! In other news we are attaching chicken wire to the fence because the terrain is not even and several forest friends have been helping themselves to our plants.  Hope you all are having a great summer! We're looking forward to the school year!

Storms!

Despite the storms we still got a lot of work done. The interior of the house is look great and we are looking forward to working with the spanish immersion students again tomorrow!

Weeds, salt, and vinegar.

Today we again had the help of some of the wonderful spanish immersion students and managed to get most of the weeds off of our fences! This allows us to salt the earth outside our fence which will help to keep down the weeds! Thanks again friends!
