Speak your own language in your own home, the polite action is to speak the national language of the country. USA is English, despite what others may argue. Keep your heritage alive in your close community, but be part of the whole when in public. This country is an amalgam of multiple cultures that all agreeed at one point to abide by certain norms, the norms are meant to provide courtesy, politeness, and ease of living.

When I visited my relatives, we spoke Italian at home and outside, as it is our own right to do.

Be xenophobic and racist all you want, but people literally have the freedom to speak in any language they want in the USA, English is not the national language.

What language are you speaking right now? What language are 99% of the public schools using as their primary language in the US? What language does the ass-face in the Oval Office speak? Read my post again, this is not about xenophobia, nor racism, but common courtesy. If I had a visa to live in Italy, it’s not mandated that I HAVE TO speak Italian, but out of courtesy and respect to the country’s inhabitants and their culture, I would learn and speak Italian in public.
