Looking through your art on Pinterest and I noticed you do a lot of tiny doodles of characters' expressions beside the main drawing

Which, by the way, I adore every time

But I was wondering, when you do such tiny simple doodles, what are the main features you draw to show the characters apart and easily identifiable? Especially on the one showing clothing differences with Katara, Suki, Toph, and Azula, where the little expression doodles could be mistaken for a different character, what do you focus on to distinguish each person?

Btw your Azula art is my favorite and I love your shape language :))))

hmmm ive honestly never thought of this when i draw since i guess i do it naturally? for the really small doodles i think i distinguish it by their eyebrows, hair and clothes since they all have a unique style, but i also love experimenting with how i draw the eyes of each character!

for most atla characters they have monolids, and different asian ethnicities have different eyeshapes + features that i try to incorporate too, though im not sure if thats noticable in all my artwork cuz my stylization tends to vary.. mb

#i actually think a lot about eyebrows when i draw #my headcanons change a lot though #i know i kinda have same face syndrome so sometimes i practice drawing the fire family and water family to distinguish genes and stuff.#its also *really* important to me that azula looks like their mom and zuko looks like their dad so #i havent posted those drawings tho #ask me stuff

this is true but it also has influences from all sorts of asian cultures!

the government of the fire nation takes some inspiration from japanese governance (like namely the propaganda is inspired by imperial japan). and the idea of honor also is huge in japanese culture. also their headpieces i believe are inspired by japanese topknots.

many of the outfits that the fire nation characters wear are not ONLY thai but also inspired by chinese and other asian cultures as well. such as:

which resembles a chinese hanfu (from the torso down). I admit that the shoulder/upper torso pieces are quite obviously inspired by thai armor.

also the headpiece that ty lee wears is most definitely thai inspired!

the dragons that appear in the show do not really resemble thai dragons, and seem to be inspired by eastern dragons in general, i mean compare thai dragons to whats in the show.

how do U pick ur COLOURS dear master....

usually i use base colors without any change and then i add a buncha different colored layers (such as multiply, color burn, overlay, screen, etc to get certain effects i want). playing with the colors is the most fun part.

hai um what brush do u use for sketching and line art bc. i fell in love with the life in ur art.

i use a lot of different brushes, the rough one for the tyzula fanart is charcoal roll made by nikolai lockertson.. couldnt find the brush set. the circular brush i drew the fire siblings as is the sketch round brush in jingsketch basics. for the ones i drew of the gang i used the alchohol ink marker made by Di (again couldnt find the set, and for my azula drawing with the dragon i used the orca oil brush provided by procreate.

usually i use the same brush for lineart that i do for coloring, though it depends on how big the brush can get. sometimes i color with the procreate round brush lol.
