He was half tempted to sweep her off her feet, but he decided not to. Instead he led her out to the car, bowing as he opened her door.

“Your seat, M’Lady.”

Val curtsied back before climbing up in the passenger seat and settling in. Waiting until he was in the driver’s she leaned over and pecked his cheek. “Thank you, kind sir.”

“It’s a surprise,” he said simply before holding his hand out for her to take. “Ready to embark, M’Lady?”

With a quick, yet fond, roll of her eyes, Val placed her hand in his and moved to take her keys from the table before gesturing outside. “Take me away, Peter!”

“You’re welcome. I hope you like the flowers. They, uh, reminded me of your smile. Bright and cheery, and I can’t help but smile, too.”

Val blushed at his words, nodding in thanks since she didn’t trust her voice before opening the door wider. She went to put them in the vase on the mantle, before returning to his side. “Where are we driving out to?”

Parrish arrived at the door in his leather jacket and a pair of dark jeans. He felt stupid with the flowers, but they were pretty and he thought Valerie might like them.

When she opened the door, he smiled shyly and held up the flowers.

“Would you like to come to drive with me?”

Hearing him before anything else, Val opened the door even before he stopped at the threshold and only laughed at the sight and how adorable it was. “You know what? I would love to.” Taking the flowers, her smile reached her eyes as she inspected them. “Thank you.”

Val had gotten the rather spontaneous call that evening from Parrish that she had to be ready by six-thirty yet he wouldn’t tell her why. In her usual day-off attire of jeans and a button down, she was waiting by her front door for him, occasionally checking her phone to see if she received any explanation as to why he was seemingly coming over when it was almost dark out and with no previous plans.

Hey guys! So because we went over our internet limit, I won’t be able to be on all the time until early next month. I’ll be on during school hours on kik (because skype doesn’t work there for some reason) or on whatsapp and tumblr. Val’s eyebrow raised curiously. “Where did you grow up to have more forestry than here? I mean, I’m sure it’s not hard to.”

Parrish snorted at her antics but kept going with the paperwork. He was halfway through when he stretched and groaned.

“I’m ready for a snack break. What about you?”

Valerie looked over at her partner with an eyebrow raised before sitting up properly. “As long as this snack break includes something sweet, I’m in.”

“Aye aye,” Val replied, leaning back in her chair and pulling herself closer to her desk. Usually she wouldn’t be so casual when writing but this was Parrish she was with.
