Protein World’s ad campaign, which features a woman in a bikini and various products in the company’s “weight loss collection,” asks the question: Are you beach body ready? This has sparked an online backlash in which more than 40,000 people have signed a petition calling for the removal of the ad that’s been deemed body shaming.
The company has insisted there’s nothing wrong with their posters and has “absolutely no intention of removing the adverts because of a minority making a lot of noise.” CEO Arjun Seth said that the people defacing his posters are “terrorists” and that he would only take notice of the petition if it gained one million signatures. More info about #TDOV for those of you who want to participate. It’s a great opportunity to help trans people push forward. Keep your mouth shut, everyone else, and help trans people be heard and seen! 💫
I’m gonna show you what a girl typically working out would look like versus what you want me to look like
perfect person award
YES IT’S BACK
She also put on lip stick, eyeliner, let her hair down, and put on hoop earrings.
^ that’s the point of the video, though. This asshat was bitching about how “unfeminine” female Olympians are, when that shouldn’t even be a focus for people. There’s plenty of time for makeup, eyeliner, bikinis, whatever (if that’s their thing!) outside the Olympics.
It’s degrading to female athletes to have their accomplishments pushed to the side, things they’ve worked their whole lives for, and instead be judged on appearance at the one place they shouldn’t be.
^^^ YES. people need to know the context of the shit their about to comment on lol.

Wow.
4 Years Later...
I struggled, and took off most of Q4 2012 to think about a few things and work out where I was going, and returned in 2013 with a new laid back attitude to the role of derby in my life.
I enjoyed training so much more, and so started to achieve small successes and improvements. These lead me to realise that what I really wanted was to find out how much I could achieve if I really committed, and so following a holiday, that’s what I did. These are a few things that have happened since:
April 2013
Return to training from trip to NZ
June
TBB B vs Liverpool – blocker//played 21% jams//-0.83 VTAR Avg*//1 penalty minute
I commit to improving my fitness as a means to advancing my game, and start going to the gym
July
TBB establish a relationship with Aspire Fitness in Cardiff and attend regular strength and conditioning slots
August
TBB B vs Croydon – blocker/pivot//played 20% jams//2.27 VTAR Avg//1 penalty minute
September
Attend a scrimmage with TBB, Crime City Rollers and LRG Brawl Saints
October
TBB B vs Leeds B (no stats)
Chartered for TBB A team Q4
November
Georgia W. Tush (Montreal Roller Derby) guest coaches for TBB
I cut my long hair off primarily because I don’t have time or inclination to look after it any more what with all the sweating
December
TBB B vs Helsinki B – jammer (5.5 PPJ**)/pivot//played 40% jams//-1.47 VTAR Avg//4 penalty minutes//Awarded Best Jammer
January 2014
After thinking it over and initially missing out due to indecision and self-doubt, I apply for and attend Team Wales try-outs when some spaces open up at the last minute.
February
TBB B vs Dolly Rockits – jammer (3 PPJ)/pivot/blocker//played43% jams//0.13 VTAR Avg/2 penalty minutes
TBB A play top European ranked team London Brawling on my birthday. I’m disappointed not to be rostered but have an awesome weekend watching them, hugging them, drinking wine, eating cake and wearing glittery unicorn transfers.
Play Sur5al Heroes (Co-ed) – I was on a team with some fantastic skaters and learned so much in one day
March
Invited to attend the second round of try-outs and chartered for Team Wales
Demanda Riot (B.ay A.rea D.erby Girls) guest coaches for TBB
Rostered for A team Scotland trip to play Glasgow and ARRG – my first A team bouts since my return to skating (just under 12 months ago)
April
TBB B vs Newcastle – jammer (4.09 PPJ)/pivot/blocker//45% jams//3.28 VTAR Avg//0 penalty minutes//Awarded MVP(!)
Rostered for TBB A team USA tour including ECDX tournament
Team Wales training, fundraising and planning begins
Attend Anarchy in the UK for the first time and take part in scrimmage, having soaked up a whole load of inspiring derby and saying hey to RockyMountain
Rogue Runner (London Rollergirls) guest coaches for TBB
I’m just going to say it: I’m really proud of myself. I’m not done yet though, and I’m pretty excited to find out what else I can achieve!

*VTAR Avg: This is one of the many stats produced by the wonderful clipboard holders at bouts. VTAR stands for Versus Team Average Rating, these ratings allow you to see a player's performance compared to the other skaters on their team, regardless of whether the team won or lost. The VTAR Average is the average number of VTAR points scored for (positive number) or against (negative number) the team when this player was on the track, so positive is better and negative is not so good.
**PPJ: Points Per Jam (scored)
Practice does not make perfect, practice makes permanent - so perfect practice is important.
Joe from the gym. It’s not his quote, but he didn’t give me a name. And I think he added his own bit on the end. It’s good.
This is my fitblr
I love this! Safe fitspo :)
You are not a machine.
The clear pee one has me on the floor!
Fuck fitspo, be healthy.
Derby takes a lot out of us, know when you should rest and reset your body. I’ve seen too many people get hurt because they were tired and didn’t realize they were unsafe.
I like these, but how about we all stop trying to tell each other what's best and just do what we want?
Oh I just...oh.
On Saturday I combined my love of roller derby with my love of a good road trip by jumping on the Brawler bus to Leeds to take photos at a roller derby double header. Tiger Bs took on the Whip-Its before the Brawlers faced the Rebel Roses.
Bout bouts were brilliant, Cardiff came away with with a double win, and I survived the entire day on a diet of peanuts and sweets - result!
See the entire set on Flickr here or on Facebook here.
TBBvCCR, a set on Flickr.
Tiger Bay played Crime City Rollers (Mälmo) on Saturday; I didn't make the A team charter this quarter, so I amused myself with my camera instead.
This brilliant Blurred Lines parody, created by Law students at Auckland University, was taken off YouTube. So here we go, let’s re-spread this.
Love it!
The Law Revue link with 300+k hits still works for me, I’m confused.
I recently designed a logo for the Jamazons, a team in the Peterborough Roller Derby League, Ontario. This past weekend they played the season opener in their new kit!
I love derby, so when Hilary - who used to skate with the Brawlers back home in Cardiff - asked if I’d be interested in designing a logo for her team I jumped at the chance.
It’s pretty amazing to see a whole team wearing the finished product!
Photos by the excellent Simon Spivey - you can see the full album on facebook here
Look at the worldwide Brawler family go! One of our photographers and poster designers making a logo for the new team of one of our former freshies in Canada, while we prepare to travel to our first tournament in Belgium and our matriarch BB Bombshell prepares to go to her first tournament in the USA with her team the VRDL All-stars from Melbourne, Australia. Phew!
