LUCANIS BUG WITH SPITE??
lucanis bug with spite!!!!!!!!!!!!
hyperfixations mix in my silly little brain makes silly interesting things and i don't want to stop. in hk au spite is a little tiny parasitic bug (maybe it's a bug+fungi+something ancient but he looks like a little fly), he wants to take control ofc but occasionally helps bugcanis to fight. if bugcanis dies spite'll take his body and change it, will definitely start dealing 2 masks damage and maybe will spam some annoying poison projectiles hehe.
notification on my phone for the fifth time this week: "Origins remaster pitched, rejected by EA--"
me: I KNOW I FUCKING KNOW
is it just me or do the companion skills kinda come into frame more clearly as themes when they're being romanced. or even platonically too
davrin reaches for you, he and assan bring things down from great heights. he grounds you, opening the way, taking down obstacles in both your paths. his inner harmony is what guides the way in helping those he loves most
lace moves aside the obstacles, breaks down walls, lifts you up, tackles the immoveable and is your sure, steady rock. it doesn't come naturally to her, at first - until it does
taash ignites something in you. they'll blast through anything to find you, create a flame that burns bright, their light illuminates the way. this is what they were made for
lucanis needs help, at first. he doesn't know how to approach this, how to help you. but spite does - he builds bridges. he pulls from the fade and fills the gaps, and together they give you something solid to help you cross the chasm
emmrich soothes. he placates and soothes and talks with tenderness and kindness, he uses his words and his vast breadth of knowledge to display his love for you
neve untangles the delicate threads that hold you bound. she makes you feel solid when needed, she makes you melt otherwise. if there's an answer out there, she'll find it
bellara fixes. she knows the problem with a single look, and she gets to work - nothing broken is broken forever, and it's almost instinctual how she helps find the solution needed
In the Venatori camp there was an option to stand in line with the the others. Then the Venatori would start paying attention to our ragtag gang and someone would pester one of the companions, depending on who was in the party. Except for Lucanis (he managed on his own), Neve came to everyone's rescue.
Companions: Guards. We'll need to get past them. Somehow. How do we get past those guards? We must get past those guards. Uh-oh. Guards. What's the plan for the guards? How do we get past the guards without killing 'em?
Rook: Leave it to me.
Companions: We're waiting in line? Really? Are we actually waiting in line? We're joining the queue? You're making us wait in line? They're going to spot us in the queue.
Rook: Barging through will just make us look suspicious.
Venatori talk: For the glory of Tevinter reborn. Move along. Hey! I was here first! One at a time. There's no need to push.
Companions: Rook? People are staring. Really staring. Rook, people are starting to stare at us. People are taking notice of us, Rook. People are looking at us, Rook. Rook. People are staring. I can smell it.
Rook: It's fine. Just act normal.
Venatori: Is that an elf? Here? Neve: My servant. Is there a problem? Bellara: Mistress takes me everywhere! She's so kind! Neve: Bellara. Bellara: Sorry, Mistress! Venatori: No, of course not. I apologize.
Venatori: Is that an elf? Here? Venatori: That's a Qunari! Here! Neve: My bodyguard. Would you like a demonstration?
Davrin: Would your ladyship like me to defend your honor? Venatori: No, that's quite all right.
Taash: (Growls.) Venatori: Uh, no, never mind.
Venatori: Hm. Are those Mourn Watch rings? Emmrich: Ah! Yes, they were given to me by— Neve: He murdered their previous owner for insulting his magic. Emmrich: Oh, yes, of course. That. It was very rude of him. Venatori: I think there's blood on your robes. Neve: Is there? Well, my servants shall hear of this.
Venatori: Is that a dwarf? Here? Neve: She's just short. Harding: Right. Just a short Venatori. For the risen gods! Neve: For the glory of Tevinter reborn.
Venatori: Don't I know you from somewhere? Lucanis: Nigel Serpentus Gordian, of the Asariel Gordians. Perhaps we've met? Venatori: No, I... I must've been mistaken. Neve: "Nigel"? Lucanis: What? I would make a great Nigel.

Bellara: So you and the Professor?
Rook: Yep!
Bellara: That’s great. I’m happy for you. Both of you.
Rook: Thanks Bellara.
Bellara: How did it happen? Was it romantic? I bet it was romantic.
Rook: The most romantic first kiss I’ve ever had.
Bellara: Really?
Rook: Emmrich puts romance serials to shame.
—
Bellara: Professor Emmrich, I have a question but it’s kind of, um, personal?
Emmrich: Oh?
Bellara: Rook told me about the flower petal thing you did and I was wondering how it works. Did you draw them from the Fade?
Emmrich: Nothing so complicated. It’s a simple invocation. An illusion, if you will.
Bellara: So you wouldn’t necessarily have to be in a garden to do it?
Emmrich: Oh, not at all. You could do it anywhere, although the effect would be less impactful.
Bellara: Did you develop the spell yourself?
Emmrich: This version, although it’s hardly a novel idea. I find it charms quite nicely when the occasion calls for it.
Bellara: Oh! So you’ve done it before?
Emmrich: Well, I- (clears throat) That is to say-
Rook: Sounds like a yes to me.
—
Emmrich: Rook, dearest, I don’t want you to think that I’m using some sort of script on you.
Rook: What are we talking about?
Emmrich: The flower petals. While it is a spell I’ve used before in a similar context-
Rook: Emmrich, you’re allowed to have a past. I don’t care if you’ve used that spell on a hundred other people. It was still romantic.
Emmrich: Thank you darling, but you’re important to me and I-
Rook: Maybe we should have this conversation at home?
Taash: Yep.
Neve: Probably a good idea.
Bellara: I feel like this is my fault.
Harding: You should listen to Rook.
Davrin: Please.
Lucanis: Rook’s right.
Emmrich: Ah. Yes. Later, then.
—
Bellara: I’m sorry, Rook.
Rook: For what?
Bellara: Causing you and Emmrich to fight.
Rook: We didn’t fight. Emmrich was overthinking things.
Bellara: Still, it’s my fault for asking in the first place.
Rook: Now you’re overthinking things. It’s fine.
—
Emmrich: Bellara, did you make Rook and I a chocolate and wine basket?
Bellara: Yes! It’s an apology. For causing your fight.
Rook: It wasn’t a fight.
Emmrich: Rook’s right. The apology is unnecessary.
Bellara: If you’re sure…
Emmrich: Absolutely.
Rook: We’re keeping the basket though.
—
We were robbed of romance-related banter between Emmrich and Bellara, especially given her love of serials, so I made some up.

What are some modern au Rookanis headcanons y'all have?
One of mine is that Verena buys Lucanis some kind of item that says "I love coffee" on it from every country she travels to for her contracts. Lucanis has so many mugs and t-shirts lmao
Thanks for the tag @dellamortte! I really enjoyed this!! I'll tag @kabsey @rookanis-de-riva and @raspberry-summer but if y'all already did it or don't feel inspired, feel free to ignore!!
Ship Sleep Dynamics: Lucanis and Verena
How often do they sleep together?
During the events of Veilguard, Verena is guarded with her personal space when it comes to sleep. However, she makes an exception for Lucanis once she returns from the Fade prison. Seeing him so shaken has him in her arms until it's time to face the Gods.
Post-Veilguard, they hardly get a chance to be in the same country. Between the efforts to give Minrathous aid and Lucanis settling into his role as First Talon, the two of them learn to treasure what time they can when they get it.
Where do they sleep?
Post-Veilguard, Lucanis personally oversees that Verena gets a room at Villa Dellamorte. If she's not visiting her family, she goes to sleep there. Lucanis sleeps in his own room, as well. It's not because they don't like being near each other. They respect each other's space.
If Spite is feeling like he hasn't seen enough of her, he takes over and stands outside of her door like a kid waiting to tell his parent he threw up. Lucanis is especially embarrassed about this, even though he has missed being in her arms.
How do they prepare to sleep?
If alone, Lucanis keeps up some of his late night habits that he had during the events of Veilguard. Some nights, he works on his Orlesian vocabulary. On other nights, a knitting project. When he feels like he's made some satisfying progress, he puts everything in its rightful place. He secures the area, stows away a dagger or two, and then settles into bed.
If Verena is in the villa and is still awake (which is rare), he goes to her room. He spends some time cuddling with her before kissing her good night and leaving her be. Then he follows his routine for the night.
If Lucanis is out, Verena is more thorough with checking the locks and latches of her room doors and windows. After that, she dresses down. She makes sure she has the dagger that Lucanis gifts her close by, and battles the anxious thoughts in her head before sleeping.
When Lucanis is in the Villa, she almost immediately goes to sleep. She feels safe. Perhaps a little too safe. When she wakes, she gets scolded by Lucanis about her leaving something unlocked. Mierda, you'd think a de Riva would exercise a bit more caution.
What do they wear to sleep?
If he's with Verena, Lucanis just sleeps in his underwear. Alone, he wears a light shirt and pants.
Verena sleeps topless in her underwear. She has no shame. Lucanis won't complain. Though it's made for awkward moments when someone other than Lucanis knocks on her door…
Do they cuddle?
During the events of Veilguard, it takes some time to work up to cuddling. Verena is always an affectionate person. She often has to apologize for very nearly breaching a boundary when it comes to Lucanis. The first time they cuddle is after the events of a Murder of Crows. Some time after he has his coffee, he comes to see Verena in the meditation room. He confesses that he's having a hard time processing what Illario's done and it's riling him up. Verena invites him into her arms and Lucanis relents, too worn out emotionally to turn her down.
Post-Veilguard, they cuddle as much as time allows. Lucanis gets comfortable enough to initiate and Verena doesn't complain at all.
What are their preferred sleep positions?
By herself, Verena sleeps on her stomach. It's easier on her horns. With Lucanis, she sleeps on her back so he's able to lay his head on her chest with his arms wrapped around her.
How easy do they fall asleep?
It takes Verena no time at all to sleep when Lucanis is around. Lucanis is the last to fall asleep, but he doesn't stay up for long.
Do they toss and turn a lot?
No, they stay in place pretty much.
Do they snore?
Verena does. Lucanis adores her for it.
Who hogs the blanket?
Verena hogs the blanket. Lucanis is fine without it, except on cooler nights. Sometimes, they're playful about snatching it from each other.
What do they dream about?
Verena very rarely dreams anymore. It unnerves her. She wonders if she's still under the Dread Wolf's sway sometimes.
Lucanis is surprised that his dreams have a lighter tone to them these days. Nightmares are common for him, after all. He doesn't stop having them, but there are times he's spared. He dreams of Verena sneaking off with food she's taken straight off the pan and him scolding her for damn near burning the roof of her mouth.
How easily do they wake up?
Lucanis and Verena wake up pretty easily. Got to love that Crow upbringing. If things aren't dire though, they sleep in when they're together.
How awake are they afterwards?
Lucanis can still work on fumes as we all know, but you know he needs his usual cup of coffee. Verena is pretty bright-eyed, even when she doesn't sleep well.
