It was the morning after the eventful night before, and Derek was deep in his thoughts. The player was laid against his pillow looking up at the ceiling above. He couldn’t help but cast his mind back to everything that had gone down last night. It wouldn't have been a typical day in “Bad Boy” Derek Roman’s life if things didn’t end up getting out of control, or becoming overly dramatic. Drama seemed to follow the star athlete wherever he went and he was honestly fed up. However, as bad as the night had turned out to be… Derek couldn’t deny that seeing the latest addition to the Los Angeles Devil Girls – Ahsha Hayes, wasn’t the highlight of his night.
With that said, his brief smile at the thought was quickly replaced with a frown once reminded that his chances with the dancer could’ve possibly been ruined now… all because of the very person laid up next to him in the bed.
“Mmm…” Came her soft groan as she moved her dainty hand down towards his boxers, and began to caress his thick bulge.
“Claudette, chill.” He tiredly spoke. Usually, it wouldn’t take much for the player to dick a woman down and have her walking funny for the rest of the week. However, Derek just wasn’t here for it this time.
“Shh… relax, baby. Let me take care of you…” The vixen cooed as she placed a kiss on his bare chest, before flicking her tongue against his nipple… whilst still massaging his goods.
“I said stop.” His tone more serious. Although what she was doing felt good… and it felt real good. Derek had someone else on his mind.
“You always tell me to stop…” She purred. Her hands now sliding into his boxers, as she took a hold of his huge piece. “But you know you don’t want me to.” And just like that she began to stroke his dick, making sure to get a real feel of her man.
“Shit, I’d rather have someone else do this to me…” He mumbled to himself, not caring whether or not he was heard.
“The fuck did you just say?” He was heard. Claudette immediately stopped what she was doing and propped herself up.
“If you have to ask… chances are you already heard what I said.”
She took one look at him, feeling a surge of female rage and instantly lost it.
“Motherfucker!” She shouted, slapping the hell out of his bare chest with all her might before leaving the bed. “I don’t need this shit. I’m about to have a single out and start my clothing line.”
“I know you did not just hit me! I know you did not just do that!” Derek loudly spoke out, as his eyes narrowed in on hers.
“Damn right I did, nigguh. Fuck you!” The real ATL in Claudette came out of her like it was nothing, as she stood on the other side of the bed in just her thong.
Like an instant reflex, Derek jumped straight out of the bed and rushed right over to where she was standing. Words could not describe the rage he was now feeling. The player knew never to put his hands on any woman, however he’d be damned if anyone ever disrespected him in such a way.
“You know what…” His tone was so low and deep, as his dark pools intensified on hers. “Count yourself lucky that this nigga ain’t the type to put hands on a bitch.”
“Bitch? Fuc…” Claudette tried to slap the player across the face but got caught mid-air once again.
“You are really testing me, Claudette.” His grip tightened as he walked her back towards the wall. “The next time you ever try this shit again… I won’t be so nice.” Her back hit the wall. “I’m not gonna tell you again.”
Seeing Derek in this light instantly silenced her. She was slightly frightened and wouldn’t dare say anything else to piss him off even further. But man… was she turned on. There was nothing sexier than having a big strong man put you in your place when necessary. The two acquaintances remained silent as they continued to stare one another down. Their bare chests heaved, whilst only the sounds of their heavy breathing filled the room.
“You ain’t got nothin to say now, huh?” He moved even closer to her to the point where her breasts were now pressed against him. “That’s what I thought.” He finally added before attempting to walk away… only to be stopped.
“Wait…” Claudette quietly spoke, reaching for his shoulder. “I’m sorry.” She pleaded, but the player remained silent.
“Derek, I’m sorry.” The vixen apologized once again. This time placing a kiss on his bare chest. “I’m sorry.” She repeated, moving down on the athlete until…
“Mmm…” She groaned as she slowly shoved his thick dick into her mouth.
Derek was just tired. Tired of fighting her off. Tired of the constant back and forth. Tired of wasting time on someone who merely saw him for two things… money and sex (though he only gave her one of those things). The simple fact that the he wasn’t even enjoying the head he was receiving, was all the confirmation he needed to finally end whatever the hell this was. Derek was done fucking with Claudette, and since this would be the last time she’d ever get to feel him again… the player thought he’d might as well let her finish the job.
___________________________________________________________
After one hell of a stressful ass morning, Derek really needed some alone time… and what better way than to run a few errands. Usually, the player would get whatever he wanted delivered… or would simply get his personal chef to prepare his meals for him. However, he needed the fresh air and could stand to leave the house and all of the drama that seemed to follow him.
Whole Foods Market it was.
“Coach is a damn trip. None of this shit is better than some smothered ribs…” The player thought to himself as he picked up a few salmon fillets.
“Fuck it.” He called out, before rushing back over to the meat section. “What he don’t know, won’t kill him.” He laughed whilst placing some ribs and other selections of meat into his cart.
Derek continued to make his way around the store with a few fans spotting him – though he didn’t mind at all. He smiled and waved, then kept it moving. Once making his way over to the fruit section, the player couldn’t help but hear a familiar voice coming down the aisle. The universe truly did work wonders.
“Jey it’s fine. I don’t plan on speaking to his ass anytime soon. Keith has pushed me too far this time.” The dancer spoke on the phone as she stopped in front of the banana section.
“Ahsha.” The player smiled to himself but chose to keep a low profile until she got off the phone.
“But anyway… I call you back sis. I need to get some fruit, cos these shorts are starting to feel a little too tight.” She tried to suppress her raspy laugh. “Ooh… now you know I’m gonna tell my mom you said that about her ass! Bye.” Finally hanging up the phone, she made her way over to the exotic fruit section failing to realise the handsome player stood just a few feet away from her.
“I think you look sexy as hell in those shorts…” Came his smooth response as he eyed her up from head to toe. The familiar voice instantly caused her head to shoot up… as well as the hairs on the back of her neck.
“Didn’t your mother ever tell you not to eaves drop?” She replied, rolling her eyes. Damn he looked good.
“Guess I missed that talk.” He smirked.
“Of all the places…” She sighed, turning back to look at the fruits.
“Good morning to you too.”
“Maybe I should just come back later…”
“Wow… so you hate me that much?” Derek’s words caused her to stop. Why was he so damn fine? She thought to herself. Just seeing the definition of his arms in the tank top he was wearing, was driving her crazy.
“I don’t hate you, Derek. I barely know you, in fact. I’d just rather avoid all the drama.” She was half telling the truth.
“Drama? You talking about last night?” He pressed. Ahsha could only play with the imaginary lint on her crop top.
“Look, Ahsha… I’m sorry about last night. I didn’t expect for things to go down like that. But I can’t take responsibility for how Claudette acted. She’s a grown ass woman.”
“You’re right.” Derek honestly wasn’t the problem. “I guess I should say sorry for losing my temper too.”
“You had every right to. No need to apologize.”
“Fine by me…” She laughed, looking up at him.
“Besides, you look hot when you get mad.” He bit his lip, only getting her hotter.
“That’s a whole lot of meat you got there…” The dancer tried to change the topic, looking at his cart. However, she failed to realise how that actually sounded out loud.
“Well… I’m a big man, with an even bigger appetite.” Derek grinned… not missing what she had said.
“Right.” She nervously laughed, finally catching on.
“So, you came all the way to the exotic fruit section… only to get boring ass bananas?”
“Funny. I actually came for this too…” She reached out to grab a Dragon Fruit.
“And they’re great for your metabolism. Nobody asked you.” She playfully shook her head.
“Yeah, well these are good too…” He reached for a pineapple.
“Hold up. So, you talk about me getting some boring ass bananas… yet come here just to get a pineapple?” The dancer raised her brow.
“Yup. They have health benefits too…”
“Good blood circulation isn’t the only thing they help with…” He licked his lips, hoping she’d catch on to his double meaning – in which she did.
“You’re a mess, and that’s a myth.” She quickly turned to get more fruits.
“Not from what I’ve been told…”
“Seriously?” She looked less than impressed.
“Ahsha, I’m just messing with you. Chill out…” He laughed. “You’re too easy.”
“Whatever…” The dancer couldn’t help but laugh also.
“Oh, she laughs.” Derek moved in closer. “You should let me do that more often, you know… make you laugh.”
“Should we really be having this conversation here?” Ahsha looked around nervously.
“You’re right. How about I take you out, and we have it then?”
“Just think about it.” The player whispered in her ear before placing an intense kiss on her cheek. “See you around, Ahsha…” He ended as his hand lingered on the side of her face.
As if her knees weren’t already weak. No matter how much she tried to shake her thoughts of the star athlete, he’d do something else to make her swoon. Ahsha took a few more seconds to cherish the kiss, and the scent he left… before telling herself to let things go. Between Keith and his constant bullshit… she really wasn’t about to add anymore drama into her life.
Once Derek had left the aisle, Ahsha looked down into her cart only to notice five $100 bills on top of her groceries.
“He didn’t…” She said to herself in shock, before shaking her head with slight smile.
Her love certainly could not be bought… but man was this man was just too smooth.
________________________________________________________________
It had been a very productive day for the athlete, and he honestly felt good. After spending a few hours working out and practicing his jump shots at home – he felt it was time to pay the two most important women in his life a visit. Following the incident, Derek would literally stay put in his mansion and rarely ever left. Mary and Dionne would come by most days to visit and keep him company, but it still wasn’t the same. However, with his new outlook on life… it was time to start being the son and brother he knew he could be.
Pulling up to the large gates in his black Ferrari, he pressed the intercom.
“Hold on Cam… who is it?” Came the sassy tone of the young female.
“You know who it is, Dee. Quit playing and buzz me in.”
“He forgot his keys again, Cam. I caaan’t!” The player heard her over the intercom on the phone. “How you forget your keys every single time?” She continued, now talking to her brother.
“Dionne. I’m not gonna tell yo ass again. Buzz me in!” He spoke louder.
“Ooh you tried it, Derek.” She rolled her eyes. The gates finally opened to welcome him in.
“Watch when I get inside.”
Once the player finally parked his car and entered the family mansion only to see his sister standing by the door… he instantly snatched her phone from her hand.
“Derek! Stop.” Dionne tried to reach for the phone, but Derek’s tall stature and long ass arms were too much for her.
“Camryn, Dionne will call you back.” He hung up the phone.
“Derek!” She tried to pull on his arm but the player was too damn strong.
“Lucky I don’t take over your damn snapchat and embarrass that ass more.” He handed the phone back to her. “Next time, open up the damn gates when I tell you to.”
“Sasquatch ass.” She shot back, running before he could grab her again.
“What!” He called out, pretending to be mad.
“If you two don’t quit making all that damn noise in my house…” Mary Roman came from the kitchen less than impressed.
“Your big-headed son started it, mama.”
“I don’t care who started it! And his head is not big.” Mary replied, before walking over to embrace her first born. “My handsome baby boy is perfect.”
“That’s right ma.” Derek smiled, hugging his mother back as he winked at his younger sister… to which she responded with a middle finger.
“Ugh, I can’t stand y’all.” Dionne playfully rolled her eyes.
“Oh, don’t be jealous baby girl. Come here…” Mary teased.
“You two are about to do my damn head in. Go in the kitchen and eat the food I made, before I change my mind.” Both Derek and Dionne followed their mothers order, still going back and forth with each other along the way.
After sharing a few laughs and engaging in some conversation over the nice home cooked meal Mary had made… Dionne had taken off to the living room engaged in an important phone call with Camryn – whilst Derek stood by the counter thinking to himself after starting the dishwasher.
“So… what’s on my handsome son’s mind?” Mary asked noticing the absent look on Derek’s face.
“Huh? Oh nothing ma… I’m cool.” He replied snapping out of his thoughts.
“Boy, please. I carried your ass for 9 months. Went through 32 hours of labour… just to give birth to your 8lbs 2oz behind. I know you more than you know yourself.” Mary put her glass down on the kitchen island, folding her arms afterwards.
“Here you go.” The player laughed to himself, shaking his head. “Honestly mom, I’m straight.” He tried to brush the topic off once again, however Mary wasn’t having it or buying it.
“Derek Marcel Roman… if I have to ask you one more time.” She raised her brow.
“Alright, alright. I mean so… there’s this girl…” Derek began, rubbing the back of his neck.
“Hold on. In all 29 years of your life, you have never… not once come home to tell me about any girl.” Mary damn near chocked on her wine at her son’s shock revelation, and she hadn’t even heard all of it. The look on her face said it all.
Derek had never really opened up about the various women in his life as all of them were nothing more than just a booty call to him. As harsh as it sounded, it was the truth and went both ways most of the time. The occasional flavour of the month would want more from Derek, however the player just knew that none of those women were wifey material. None of them up until encountering someone else…
“Tell me about it. I must be trippin.”
“Or she must be something special.” The protective mother spoke dubiously. “So… how did you meet this girl?”
“We met at my party last night… and ran into each other again at the store earlier.”
“Oh, so you met her at the club? I see.” Mary was already over this conversation. She knew women flocked to her son and not just because of his good looks. Derek was the ultimate catch. He was tall, handsome, smart, rich, talented, athletic and not to mention again… FILTHY RICH. In her eyes… there was no way you could meet a decent girl at a club, especially not in Los Angeles. Therefore, she’d be damned if any girl tried to trap her son.
“It’s not even like that, ma.” Derek tried to reason, laughing to himself once again. He just knew this would be his mother’s reaction and couldn’t blame her at all. Mary simply wasn’t here for any woman, and nor was he most of the time. But things felt different now… and he had to let her know that.
“Derek. There are only two types of girls you will meet at the club. Bottle Service Rats & hot in the coochie Gold Diggers ready to open up their legs, for a lotta bit of change.”
“Imma act like I didn’t just here you say that… but I understand where you’re coming from. However, Ahsha isn’t either of those mom.”
“Ahsha? See now… that name in itself is a lil ratchet.” Mary teased, before taking a swig of her wine.
Though she wasn’t very fond of the fact that her son almost seemed head over heels… she’d be lying if she said it wasn’t nice to see Derek feel this way about someone for a change. As a mother, she wanted nothing more than for her son to meet and fall in love with a genuine girl that loved him unconditionally. She knew Derek had the biggest heart and a lot of love to give, and though he had struggled over the years with his pent-up anger and wild ways… he still deserved nothing but the best. Both of her children did.
“Damn…” Derek mumbled to himself. This was going to be hard.
“Look baby, you know I support you in everything you do. You’re a smart man, plus I damn sure didn’t raise no fool. However, you know how these girls are. They see what you’re worth and what you can do for them… and bam. You are dollar signs to them, and it’s rare that you’ll find someone pure.” She said in a matter of fact tone.
“I hear that, mom. But Ahsha honestly doesn’t seem that way. She just joined the Devil Girls, and yes I know… most of the girls on the team are thirsty as it is. However, she’s Jelena’s younger cousin and we know how Jey is. Both her and Terrence are good people. Plus, I was trying to get at her all night and she wasn’t having it.” The player explained, only to Mary’s satisfaction though she wouldn’t admit it just yet. “Oh and get this… she already has a man, and he ain’t shit.”
“Cuss in my house one more damn time.”
“Sorry…” He laughed. “But for real, ma… he ain’t.”
“And you know all of this, how?”
“I heard them talking over the phone and he was disrespectful as fu… as hell.”
“I see things still haven’t changed in that department then.” Mary threw a subliminal shot at Derek & Dionne’s father, before continuing… “So she’s Jelena’s cousin, you say?”
“You’ve only met her twice, Derek. You can’t get to know someone in such a short space of time.”
“I know. But when have I ever come to you with something like this before? You know if anyone can spot a fraud from a mile off… it’s me. Ahsha is different. Just the way she looks at me, talks to me… I feel it. Plus, she isn’t afraid to put me in my place and you know how I can be…” He laughed.
“Oh… I know.” Mary lightly chuckled. Ahsha wasn’t sounding too bad after all, but she was still sceptical. Looks could be deceiving, plus her situation didn’t sound too good. “Wait, didn’t you just say that she’s in a relationship?”
“Yet you’re still trying to pursue this girl?” The player nervously rubbed the back of his neck once again. “Now, I know for damn sure I taught you better than that, Derek?” Mary was not impressed. The last thing her son needed was to get into more trouble.
“You sure did, ma.” Derek replied as he walked over to the kitchen island where Mary was sitting, and grabbed both of her hands as they faced one another. "You taught me to always go for what I want, and to never back down from a challenge. I followed and conquered my dreams as an NBA player, and now I’m a multi-millionaire… because you never gave up on me or Dionne.” The mother smiled, feeling her emotions beginning to get the better of her as her son continued. “I made a vow to become the man of this house, so that I could repay you for every single sacrifice you made for us. To make sure that the both of you were living comfortably… and nothing makes me happier than to see my vow come to life. But now, I think it’s time I find someone to make happy, to keep my head on straight… and I know that someone is Ahsha. That’s why I’m not backing down. The player finally added as his grip on his mother’s hands tightened. Mary could only stare back at her son intensely as his sweet, yet powerful words sunk in. She was so proud of him and of how far he had come.
“I won’t get in your way, son. I trust you.” She replied before pausing, as a single tear streamed down her face. “But I also won’t sit back if things go left. You and your sister are my life. So believe me when I say… I will hurt anyone, that hurts or tries to hurt either one of my babies.” The mother firmly emphasized.
“I know.” Derek smiled as he wiped his Mary’s tear away, before placing a sweet kiss on her cheek.
The mother and son spent a few more minutes alone embracing their heart to heart. With Mary now aware of the current goings on in his life and feelings… Derek was now ready to make some real moves.
________________________________________________________________
It was his first official day back at the arena, and the player couldn’t have been more focused. The presence he had on the court had not gone unnoticed. Derek Roman was simply a beast, and just when you thought he couldn’t possibly get better… he did. Those 3 months away really made for a positive change. And although the player was borderline depressed and was starting to give up on himself, he made sure to channel his frustrations into endless practice and workout sessions at home.
“Good job today guys. If you keep this up… the Bulls won’t stand a chance against us this Friday. And nice work out there, Roman. We’re happy to have you back on the team.” Coach Davenport proudly spoke as the other teammates gave Derek his props. They had all missed him for real.
“Preciate it coach.” He replied whilst wiping down his sweat.
“Now on 3… Devil’s Nation rise up!” Pete called out like a proud father.
“Devil’s Nation rise up!” The teammates followed.
“Man… coach worked our asses out today.” Terrence spoke as he walked out from the locker room shower. “Imma need for Jelena to give me some extra TLC later on.”
“What, you feeling the burn old man?” Derek laughed as he lotioned himself up whilst sitting on the bench in just his towel.
“Your ass ain’t even been back 2 minutes, yet you’re already trying to roast me? Nigga please.”
“2 minutes and still running the motherfuckin’ court. What’s my name?” Derek called out.
“D-ROOOO!!!” A few of the other Devil’s shouted, breaking out into laughter afterwards.
“That’s right!” The player stood up beating his chest, before cracking up.
“Stupid asses.” Terrence replied as he walked over to his locker, unable to hold back his laughter too. “Anyway… what’s Claudette saying?”
“Man, I’m done with her and the bullshit.”
“You not feeling her crazy as no more huh?”
“I’m just done. Before, I didn’t have the energy to fight her off… but now I’m too focused on ball and keeping my head on straight. Ball is life.”
“So, Ahsha has nothing to do with this sudden decision?” Terrence interrogated with a smirk now on his face.
“Maybe… maybe not.” Derek shrugged.
“Right. So you really think Claudette’s gonna take nicely to this, D? She’s the type of chick to show up to your house and cook you some burnt pancakes… asking if you like them "Dark, light or fluffy.”“ The player couldn’t help but laugh at his own words, only to Derek’s displeasure.
"My name ain’t Darnell, and this shit ain’t A Thin Line Between Love & Hate.” Derek threw a balled-up sock at Terrence.
“Claudette is dead ass like Brandi though. But in all seriousness, D… just be careful. Ahsha is family, and if anything happens to her… Jelena is going to have both of our asses.”
“Come on, Terrence. You really think I’d put Ahsha in danger? That’s not my style man.” Derek shook his head. “Don’t worry, I got this."
“Aight, Casanova.” His teammate flashed a smile, before dabbing his best friend.
Meanwhile… both Jelena and Ahsha were walking down the hallway also coming back from their locker room, having a little conversation of their own.
“So, it was your man’s first day back today. Did you manage to say hi?” Jelena teased, nudging her cousin.
“I’d expect this kind of comment from Terrence, or Kyle… not you.” Ahsha shot back. “But to answer your question, no… I haven’t seen him nor heard from him today actually.” She continued whilst looking down at her phone.
"Now do I detect a little bite in your tone, sis.” Jelena was starting to become amused at Ahsha’s actions. Though she didn’t notice it… her subconscious reactions to anything Derek related were a dead giveaway.
“Really, Jelena?” Ahsha rolled her eyes.
“Oh please, Ahsh. When are you going to quit acting like you’re not feeling Derek? Better question… when were you going to tell me that you ran into him at the store the other day?” The captain stopped dead in her tracks, folding her arms. Her green eyes almost seemed to illuminate as they bore right into Ahsha’s.
"I erm… it wasn’t a big deal.” The dancer tried to brush off her cousin’s question.
“Wait. How do you even know that we ran into each other?” She then probed, placing her hands on her hips.
“I overheard Terrence and Derek talking on the phone last night.” Jelena felt no way.
“So, is eaves dropping a common thing round here? I feel like I should be taking notes or something cos apparently… everyone does it.” Ahsha sarcastically spoke.
“Are you going to keep avoiding this topic, or are we going to discuss whatever the hell this is?” Jelena’s tone grew more serious.
“What exactly is it that you want to hear from me, Jey?”
“Ahsha, it's pretty evident that Derek is feeling you. And by the looks of it… the feeling must be mutual. However, I know for a fact that he has never felt this strongly about any woman before. Therefore, you two need to actually sit down and talk so that you can figure out whatever the hell is going on.”
“Jey, there is nothing to figure out. I’ve seen the guy what… twice? I’m in a relationship with Keith. The end.” The dancer was really starting to get frustrated now.
“You’re still with Keith out of pride, and loyalty to your relationship. A relationship that clearly fizzled out ages ago, and has lost all meaning Ahsha. But I won’t even go there with his disrespectful ass or the fact that you’re still with him. You already know I feel. All I will say is… keep it 100 with Derek. That’s the least you can do for yourself and him.” The two cousins remained face to face.
Sugar coating things was not Jelena’s thing by far. Ahsha was basically a sister to her and the last thing she wanted to see was the dancer being taken for granted by a piece of shit. Especially since Ahsha wasn’t the naive type. Her cousin was simply just a hopeless romantic/fighter… hoping things would work out in the end. But how much was too much?
As much as she didn’t want to hear those harsh words from her cousin, Ahsha knew that Jelena was right. The truth hurt… but coming from someone she absolutely adored and valued more than most, really put things into perspective for her (though she wouldn’t admit so yet). In just a few days of encountering the Bad Boy, she literally couldn’t stop thinking about him. The way he looked at her, the way he spoke to her, the way he’d make her swoon by his brazenness and irritate her with his presence at the same time. The way he smelled. It was insane… and she was confused. Things were moving way too fast, but she couldn’t help but feel this way.
Just when she was about to say something… the two players finally left the locker room, only to run into the two very special ladies.
“Great.” Ahsha sarcastically whispered.
“Now what are you two beautiful ladies doing in this hallway?” Terrence teased as his eyes narrowed in on his fiancée.
“Mmm… I can smell your cologne from here.” Jelena spoke as she walked over to Terrence, wrapping her arms around his waist. Meanwhile, both Derek and Ahsha remained silent as they watched the happy couple reunite… whilst stealing a few quick glances at one another. The player was looking like a tall glass of something so chocolatey, and dangerous.
“It’s the one you got for me.” Terrence pulled her in tighter.
“I guess I have good taste.” The captain ran her hands up and down his broad back, only setting the mood even more.
“Damn right you do…” And just like that, the two lovers began to kiss.
Both Derek and Ahsha on the other hand, felt some type of way. Derek wished he could be kissing on someone of his own just like that, whilst Ahsha wish she didn’t have a piece of shit for a boyfriend. Without realizing, she looked over at Derek as her eyes travelled down to his luscious lips. God his lips are beautiful… she thought to herself. Memories of when she almost got a feel of them at his party resurfaced, making her even more frustrated. Feeling eyes on him, the player looked back at Ahsha only to realise where her eyes were. He simply licked his lips, knowing exactly what he was doing… and began to make his way over to her.
“Shit.” The dancer mumbled under her breath, getting hot and bothered. Something about Derek instantly made her nervous, no matter how much she tried to front. He was so sexy it hurt, and with his confidence, effortless swag and persistence… it only made it harder to resist him.
“I say we give them a run for their money…” The player cooed, before looking back at Terrence and Jelena who were still fawning over one another and engaging in conversation.
“You don’t stop, do you?” She replied, rolling her eyes.
“Now you know you don’t want me to.” He smirked.
“Don’t recall saying that…but okay.”
“When are you gonna quit fronting, Ahsha? You don’t have to admit to wanting me yet… but can a brotha at least get a hello or a hug for a change?” The player towered over her, as his eyes stared deeply into hers.
Honestly, Derek had never had to put this much effort into getting some attention from a female before. Ahsha was giving him a very hard time, and he didn’t know how to go about things. Maybe she really wasn’t trying to end things with her man after all.
“See, that’s the thing. It’s like you expect me to fall to my feet, or kiss your ass.” The dancer shot back, folding her arms.
“Derek, clearly you’re used to women giving it to you without even having to ask for it. I am not that kind of woman.”
“Ahsha, I just wanna get to know you… that’s all.” He sincerely replied as his eyes remained on hers, whilst adjusting the strap on his Nike duffle bag. The player was starting to feel slightly uneasy, which was very rare for him.
Noticing his sudden discomfort… Ahsha could only soften at how cute he was. It was at this moment that she realised how much the player really liked her.
“I guess a hug wouldn’t hurt…” She spoke, pretending to open up her arms against her will. Derek simply smiled and gently pulled her in. The difference in their height amused him, whilst the difference and smell of him only caused Ahsha to get hot once again. The two friends began to subtly rock from side to side, without even realizing it.
“Mmm… I could get used to this.” The player teased, burying his head into the side on her neck. She fit against him perfectly.
For a brief moment… Ahsha was completely lost in him. A hug so simple, yet intimate was all she truly longed for. A faint smile began to appear on her face before remembering where she was… and who she was with. “Ugh, that’s enough.” She spoke, softly pushing him off.
“For now.” Came his slick reply.
They continued to look into one another’s eyes, before hearing the sound of Terrence clearing his throat.
“Y’all need a couple more minutes or?” He teased. Jelena could only shoot the both of them a side eye, also.
“Man, be quiet… we should be asking the both of you the same thing.”
“We’re engaged, that’s our excuse. What’s yours?”
“Okay, okay… that’s enough you two.” Jelena spoke up, noticing how tense her cousin seemed. “It’s getting late. Everyone ready to leave?”
“Yeah.” The two athletes spoke.
“I’m actually waiting on a ride since my car is still with the mechanics… so I guess I’ll catch y’all tomorrow.” Ahsha sighed. Keith insisted that he’d fix her car for her… but never got around to doing it. Typical.
“I don’t mind waiting with you?” Derek offered with a smirk.
“You’d love that wouldn’t you?” She playfully mocked, but wouldn’t pass up on his offer. “Fine… but you better behave.”
“I promise to keep my hands to myself.” He bit his lip. What had she just gotten herself into?
“I guess that’s settled then. See you tomorrow, Ahsh.” Terrence walked over and gave her a hug. “If Derek bothers you too much… let us know.” He joked, only to get hit by his best friend.
“Don’t forget to call me this time…” Jelena reminded the dancer with a raised brow, before hugging her. “And remember what I said. I want all the deets…” She whispered.
“Nosy ass… will do.” Ahsha replied, holding her a little tighter before letting go.
“Later, D.” She tip toed up for the player to kiss her cheek. And with that… the two lovers left the arena, leaving both Derek and Ahsha behind.
“So… what time does your car arrive?” Came his deep voice.
“Shouldn’t be any longer than 5 minutes.” Ahsha looked through her Uber app.
“You know my cars parked outside right? I could drop you home?” He sincerely offered once again.
“I couldn’t let you do that, Derek. I’m sure you have a busy schedule.”
“You do live in L.A right?” She laughed, shaking her head. “Fine, I won’t press. Maybe next time.”
“Maybe. Let’s go wait outside…” The dancer finally suggested, to which they both went ahead and did. It was fair to say that she was finally warming up to the player.
________________________________________________________________
The Devil and Devil Girl were stood waiting outside by the front entrance. Neither of them had uttered a word, but merely enjoyed one another’s company. Dusk had hit the beautiful city of Los Angeles and the atmosphere was everything. As the cool breeze hit… Ahsha’s dark locks blew gracefully, instantly catching Derek’s eye.
“First eaves dropping… now staring? You have no manners, Mr. Roman.” Ahsha joked, nudging the player.
“Just appreciating nature’s beauty.” He nudged her back, causing her to blush. “Oh… you liked that one, didn’t you? You liked that one.” He teased whilst softly poking her as her raspy laugh grew.
“Stoppp!” She pushed his arm. “Ooh, before I forget. I think you left something in my cart the other day…” She pulled out the $500 dollars Derek dropped from her purse. The player could only look on in amazement.
“You didn’t use it?” Derek was shocked to say the least. If it were any of the other girls he had encountered in life… they probably would’ve used it, then asked for more.
“Of course not. I have my own money, Derek.” Ahsha replied, trying to hand the money back to him.
“Right.” He shook his head. She was unbelievable.
“You upset I didn’t use it?” The dancer enquired slightly confused.
“No, not at all.” He placed his hand on her shoulder. “You’re amazing, you know that?” Ahsha could only shyly smile.
She attempted to give the money back to the player once again… but he refused. Instead, their eyes remained on each other’s. They simply couldn’t pull away or deny how they were starting to feel for one another. Though things were moving fast, neither of them could deny how good it felt to connect with someone. The urge to kiss resurfaced once again, and this time… Ahsha didn’t want to fight it. They had both been longing for this moment right here, and just as their heads slowly began to move in closer… the sound of a car speeding down the road instantly caused them to pull away. Their lips only a few centimeters apart.
“Looks like Uber done stepped their game up…” Derek spoke watching the luxury car pull up. The player was slightly irritated that their moment was disrupted once again.
“Fuck.” The dancer muttered. Pissed wasn’t even the word. “That’s… Keith.” She added, instantly recognizing the black Mercedes C-Class.
“You called him?” His brows furrowed.
“Hell no.” She strutted forward whilst Derek stayed put… waiting to watch the scene unfold.
Keith blew his horn three times, signalling his arrival. However, Ahsha didn’t budge. Instead… she stood still with the most coldest look on her face.
“Look who’s back early from touring lil mama? Thought I’d swing by and surprise you.” The ex-NFL player cooed as the window came down. However, Ahsha remained silent.
“Thank you, baby. You so sweet. I love you.” He mocked in her voice, laughing afterwards. However, noticing that his girlfriend was less than impressed… he got serious again. “Ahsh… I know you’re not still trippin over the other night. I said I was sorry.” He spoke once again, only to hear nothing in return. “Am I talking to myself?” The ex-NFL player was starting to get irritated.
He was done talking. Instead, the artist/model decided to simply get out of his car and talk to his girl face to face. Derek on the other hand, wasn’t having it. He automatically responded by moving forward also… still trying to keep a low profile.
“Ahsha… come on man. What more do you want from me?” Keith finally approached her, trying to grab her hand only to be brushed off.
“I want you to leave.” She bluntly replied.
“Man, that’s bullshit. You do this every time. I said I was sorry… now you coming or not? I’ve got something for you.”
“I’m straight.” She checked her phone. “And would you look at that, my Uber has just arrived.” The Chevrolet pulled up.
“I know you’re not about to get into that car, after I drove my ass all the way down here to pick you up?” Keith was really starting to get annoyed now.
“Did I ask you to come and pick me up? In fact… did you even tell me that your ass would be back today?” The dancers tone grew. She had had enough of his disrespect and blasé ways.
“It’s time for you to go, Keith. Bye.” She pushed against his chest. “And take your car back to wherever the fuck you came from.”
“You’re not gonna keep talking to me like that. You got me all the way fucked up.” His nostrils began to flare.
“Leave!” Ahsha shouted. The anger in the both of them was starting to reach its limit. Keith moved in closer as his chest started to heave… completely unaware that the star player was striding over to them.
“Everything alright here?” Derek’s tone was so low it sent chills down Ahsha’s spine. The player had witnessed everything and he was in no mood to deal with any bullshit.
“Yes, everything is fine. Keith was just leaving.” The dancer replied, eyes still on her estranged boyfriend.
“I’ll deal with you later.” His eyes narrowed in on hers, before turning his attention to Derek.
“Derek Roman… what’s good?” Keith called out with a smile, extending his hand.
“Keith.” The player firmly shook his hand with the straightest face.
Both athletes had never personally met, but they definitely knew of one another.
“First time we meet, and it’s like this.” He laughed. “If you’d just give me a quick sec. I need to finish talking to my girl.” He turned back to Ahsha, who was still ready to blow.
“I think we both heard Ahsha tell you to leave. Honouring the lady’s wish, would be the gentlemanly thing to do.”
“With all due respect my nigga… this has nothin to do with you.” Keith began to frown.
“Call me your nigga again… and it will.” The player moved closer to the ex-athlete. “It’s time for you to go. I’m not gonna tell you again.” His jaws began to clench.
“Keith, just leave.” Ahsha tried to calmly speak. As mad as she was… she didn’t want Derek to get involved in their issues. Nor did she want for him and Keith to fight. Derek was much bigger than the ex-NFL player, but Keith could be trouble. Little did she know though… Derek was the one to be feared when it came to fighting.
Realizing that the grounds security guards were starting to take notice of the scene unfolding before them… he decided to do just that. The artist couldn’t understand why the player was so protective over his girlfriend, but he damn sure didn’t like it.
“This ain’t over.” He spoke, eyes still on Derek. “Ahsha… We’ll talk when you get home.” Taking one final look at his girlfriend, Keith finally walked over to his car…
Feeling embarrassed, completely drained and mad at the same time… Ahsha began to silently cry. Derek could see her tiny body shake and simply placed his large hand on the side of her neck.
“Hey, hey… it’s alright.” He moved in front of her, now placing both hands on her face. “Just breathe.” The player continued to console her.
“Want me to walk over to the car?” She nodded, still shaking out of anger.
Once they approached, Ahsha’s Uber… Derek took the lead.
“Hey, I need you to get this beautiful lady home in one piece.”
“No problem, Mr. Roman.” The driver replied. Everyone knew who Derek Roman was.
“Ahsha, I’ll see you tomorrow.”
“Okay…” She quietly uttered. “Thank you.” She silently mouthed, feeling herself beginning to get emotional once again.
“No need to thank me. If you need to talk… just ask Jelena for my number, alright.” He used his thumb to rub on her cheek. However instead of responding, Ahsha just passed her iPhone to him… in which he understood. Quickly adding his number… he placed a kiss on her cheek, closed the car door and watched her drive off.
Ahsha could only sit back and think of the player. She was starting to realise that maybe he was what she needed, after all.
Derek on the other hand, knew exactly what Ahsha had meant about “avoiding all the drama.” However, the player was not willing to give up on her or what they could potentially become. Especially after witnessing just what kind of man she was dealing with. They both deserved better and Derek would make sure of it.
The next time he would see her… everything would be put on the table.
