I think Lindsey thought he was the Faith to Angelās Buffy. But that role had already been taken centuries ago by Spike.
William Pratt:It appears every grievance of my adult years is resolved through the sheer audacity of honest discourse. Which is a dreadfully unromantic notion, if I am being frank where is the tragedy? Where is the poetry in simple conversation?
we need to lock spike btvs in the walk in freezerrrrrrr
Or as Buffy Summers could say: Before he gets any more bratty and bitey, weāre stuffing Spike in the meat locker and turning the dial to 'stop being a pain.' Move, Scoobies
buffy & spike + of human bondage book
The coming-of-age story of Philip Carey, a sensitive young man consumed by an unrequited and self-destructive love.Ā Ā
not only that, but when eddie tells buffy the title of this book and asks if sheās read it, she says āno, iām not really into porn. iām trying to cut way backā and in response he says āno, thereās no actual bondage, itās just a novelā¦I always keep it by my bed. Security blanket.ā buffy replies by saying that she doesnāt really have a security blanket unless he counted mr pointy.
whatās so interesting about that is that on the surface, it looks like porn. something thatās just sex. but itās not even about sex, and to eddie it comforts him by just existing next to his bed, something he reads over and over. this is what spuffy is. buffys trying to ignore past the cover page, sheās trying to claim that their relationship is just what it appears to be. a sexual relationship. but itās not. itās her security blanket. itās spikeās too.
furthermore, the fact that buffy brings up mr pointy shows that buffy has had to find comfort within her life as the slayer even if itās in grotesque things. technically mr pointy is a weapon, it kills things. but it was kendraās very special stake that she gifted to buffy, something she considered and named like it was a stuffed animal. spike is technically a weapon too. he kills things. but itās the thing that buffy returns to every night, holding and being with, the thing that made her feel alive and maybe even safe

This is what happens when Dawn and Spike combine powers
Spike: God i want to play house with buffy so bad. I need to be her dog.
i love it when spike mentions dru <3 it's like she's not around anymore and the audience has no reason to think about her, but spike just brings her up every now and then, without prompting. because spike is always thinking about her <3 it's just this sweet little reminder that she's a permanent part of him
i love her i love her i love her
sorry i have a problem with this way of thinking about spuffy
i need everyone to stop projecting their ideas of normal/traditional healthy human relationship/dynamics onto spike and buffy because there is literally no way in hell anybody in this show is redeemable or worthy of forgiveness by any standard if you do that, including buffy herself. and it's a complete waste of nuance that was very deliberately crafted into the story too. spike is a villain and buffy is a hero and both want to kill each other for different reasons and they both actively try to do exactly that multiple times. both feel deep deep hatred for one another for most of the time they spend in the other's presence. spike should by all accounts try to kill her constantly because he is the villainnnnn. it's almost his job. same way buffy should want to kill him any chance she gets. that's the standard that's set and that the characters should meet. it's only when they get caught off guard by their own self reflected back to them through this other being that their preconceived ideas of how they should behave take a step back and they engage with each other almost softly, very gently. like in the scene that's referenced in the op.
i guess my problem with it is that it comes across as if fans only like spuffy because james marsters is hot and people are too dumb to think critically about the media they're consuming. which sure, seeing these dynamics could be harmful if you're a teenager watching, but not more harmful than, say, bangel. not by any standards. bangel might be worse by the simple fact that angel is not supposed to be perceived as a villain so anything he does gets idealized and romanticized, while spike is perceived as a villain and punished for it all the way to the end of the show.
it's because of everything bad spike and buffy have done to each other that the soft gentle things are all the more devastating. fans that like spuffy do so with their eyes fully open and mostly their moral compasses fully intact. there's no situation in real life that could mimic this because in real life if a man goes after you with a shotgun there are no amount of tears in the world that will stop him. if a man kidnaps you in real life and holds you hostage until you say you love him back you will not live to tell the tale. if a man attempts to rape you he's not doing so because he's a supernaturally soulless creature of the darkness, acting from a place of confusion and fully aware that you could stop him with a flick of your wrist, and because you're not a being that was gifted with superpowers strong enough to make you the most feared creature amongst fearsome creatures. spuffy is not a self-insert fanfiction about a hot man pulling himself down to your level and being worthy of a pedestal for it, they're about shadow integration!!! they're about the dynamic of the monster/slayer romance!!! they're equals in strength, hate, lust and love for one another!! that's what's hot about them TO ME
Buffy: Softie
Spike: Iām a dangerous, bloodthirsty monster! I kick doors down and drink blood out of skull mugs!
Dawn: Spike, are you finished braiding my hair?
Spike: Yes Niblet, up you go
Love it (Sarcasm) when people ignore an OP post about a female character's POV, and make it solely about the men around her
being in a fandom long term: urrrrrrrrrrgh not this shitty argument again weāve covered this
Thinking about 'Never kill a boy on the first date' Buffy working so hard to keep her normal life separated from her Slayer life in order to date a boy she likes.
vs
' The Replacement' Buffy telling Riley he probably only wants the normal non Slayer girl version of Buffy.
Buffy still assuming a 'normal' guy doesn't want the slayer part of her
