things i wish i’d been told sometimes
𓂃 your life revolves around you and it always has. if you feel the need to stop and catch your breath, do it. time moves forward, but your life will never be able to continue without you.
𓂃 the way people talk to you about others is a direct reflection of how they talk to others about you. remember that.
𓂃 life is too short to stay quiet. your voice carries you as much as you carry your voice.
𓂃 nobody pays as much attention to you as you think they do.
𓂃 nobody’s expecting you to do something useful every day. you shouldn’t expect that from yourself either.
𓂃 nothing that matters to you is useless. if it’s important to you then it’s important, period.
𓂃 don’t live every day like it’s your last–rather like it’s your first. get to know your space, get comfortable where you aren’t yet, try new things but not everything at once. and look forward to things that are coming.
𓂃 you’re only responsible for what you can control and influence. focus on that.
𓂃 stop trying to be okay all the time. you do not have to be okay all the time.
𓂃 it’s more common to have a soft and protecting tummy than to have flat abs. both is healthy, both is pretty.
𓂃 your teens are not your only chance on having a good, fulfilled, and social life. if you can’t find your place in high school you will in another environment. this isn’t where it ends.
𓂃 you have the right to change your mind over and over and over again until you’re happy.
your life is not an optimization problem
as in you'll never achieve the perfect daily routine, sleep schedule, coping mechanisms, mannerisms, fashion sense etc. even after years and years of healing and improvement and self-discovery. you will never be so good at life that you manage to utilize every waking moment. its great to be productive and all but sometimes you'll suck ass. sometimes you'll take eight hours to be done with a twenty minute job. you'll prioritize the wrong thing. you'll sleep for 12 hrs just to avoid being awake. you'll relapse. and you'll relapse again. you'll forget to turn in the assignment. you'll order too little food. life is far too large and complex for you to even experience it completely, much less try to make sense of and control it. you can't. please give up on that and be at peace with the hours you lose. they are not separate from your life.
I had a professor in college who used to start solving every problem with the same dialogue.
Proff: What’s the first step to solving any problem? Class: Don’t panic. Proff: And why is that? Class: Because we know more than we think we do.
I think about that a lot tbh. It didn’t occur to me until much later that he meant for us to apply that dialogue outside of the classroom to any problem. Because we always know more than we think we do. We are all an amalgam of random information that ends up being relevant with surprising frequency.
YEAH
Trauma didn't make me nice, I consciously made me nice because I don't want anyone else to suffer like I did. Trauma didn't make me strong, I made me strong. Don't you dare ever tell me my trauma made me anything but scared, broken, and confused. Don't give credit to the abusers for me being a good person. They didn't make me good, I made myself good.

"Don't be a victim of your own mind." - Unknown

“Trauma is personal. It does not disappear if it is not validated. When it is ignored or invalidated, the silent screams continue internally, heard only by the one held captive.” – Danielle Bernock

"I learned not to trust people. I learned not to believe what they say but to believe what they do. I learned to suspect that anyone and everyone is capable of living a lie. I came to believe that other people - even when you think you know them well - are ultimately unknowable." - Unknown
"You have to stop thinking you’ll be stuck in your situation forever. We feel like our heart will never heal or we’ll never get out of this impossible struggle. Don’t confuse a season for a lifetime. Even your trials have an expiration date. You will grow, life will change, and things will work out." - Brittney Moss
