When you finish a project feel proud. It is necessary to complement yourself in order to grow. Learn from your mistakes to create greater projects in the future. Consider confidence, time management and smart work as your to go attitude when you start a work until you finish. Keep yourself constantly motivated. You have your product launched and running? Start automation, don’t spend a hell lot of time on marketing and other stuff if you want to remain a designer. Or else, you are a business person and not a designer anymore…. and hey! that’s totally fine too.. I would like to stay as a designer forever - hence its just a suggestion. Want to start again? NOT A PROBLEM. Learn from results and improvise, try agin and again and again… That is what school is all about. Your grades are not for coming up with great designs but for not quitting. (at least thats how I will grade my students - if you guys want to wait for another 5 years for me to become an instructor, you are most welcome…. :P ) * * #design #productdesign #industrialdesign #designerlife #designwork #designvibe #icon #iconography #designstudio (at Iowa State University)
So it’s official 😂😂 shift has documented my embarrassment!!! The camera team have done it!! job well done - he decided to take a picture of me when I was stuck in a quick sand! 🤨 (at Iowa State University)
This is what I believe in. Design and Intent goes hand in hand. Engineers design for intent, they want to ease the human labor as much as possible. But as Industrial/product designers, we have a very important role for design touch! See design as 51% and intent as 49%, then you will be able to provide your users with something beyond their needs (in a positive way). Steve Jobs did not create iPhones 100% as per user needs but actually created a design that would become a need for the user. Think forward, keep trying… failure is the way to success. School is the time to maximize your skills, so keep going. Learn, explore and build as much as you can… if you have a crappy project and you don’t want anyone to see it - ‘trash it!!!’ and start all over. * #graphicdesign #designvibes #designtipsandtricks #designoftheday #industrialdesign #design #designlovers #designboom #designstudio #productdesign #instructionaldesign (at Chennai, India)
Yay! Now just start finalizing your product. You have spent good amount of time with research, prototyping, user feedback and so on. But you won’t get the actual feedback until the product becomes reachable to normal customers. It is a very scary move! It has luck, random coincidences, branding, design language, marketing, engineers, lawyers and more... but start in a small scale. If you are student, create 10 working prototype and put it on Kickstarter... this would warm you up! Your fears will fly away and give you moral boost to keep going! If you are a professional, try beta testing.. create 100-200 products and start sales and try getting feedback as much as possible. #graphicdesign #designvibes #designtipsandtricks #designoftheday #industrialdesign #productdesigntips #productdesign #design (at Chicago O'Hare International Airport)
If you are prioritizing intent over design, what would be some existing examples? Would you consider service design as ‘Design for intent’. My philosophy is that users don’t want dishwasher but they want washed dishes. So think differently... don’t think about designing a modern, fashionable, economical, affordable, environmental and blah.. blah.. blah... dishwasher! Rather try thinking of how get washed dishes. This gives you a broader thought process and does not limit you to existing amazements * #graphicdesign #designprocess #iconography #creativemornings #creativewriting #industrialdesign #productdesigntips #designtips #designvibes #designtipsandtricks #designoftheday (at Iowa State University)
When life give you lemon.... 💜 (at Iowa State Armory)
When you are confident about your user needs, start prototyping. Depending on how much time and commitment you have for the project you will have to make the decision on how many different prototypes you want to create. Quick prototypes: are very essential. Less detail and plays more with form. If you are performing digital prototypes play around with the layouts color choices and iconography. (I will have a detailed contents for iconography in the future posts) * #graphicdesign #designprocess #iconography #creativemornings #creativewriting #designlovers #designvibes #designinnovation #designnature #industrialdesign #productdesign #designbuild #designideas #designneedsenergy (at Iowa State University)
So we have defined both design and intent. Do you think they go hand in hand? Do you think you need to prioritize one over the other? If yes, give me some situations when do you prioritize.... If no, why do you think so? * #graphicdesign #designprocess #iconography #creativemornings #creativewriting #designvibes #designhome #designlovers #designer_babies #designerinspired #productdesigntips #industrialdesign #INDD (at Iowa State University)
Have too many options in front of you? Now what? How do you know what to select? Tip of the day: ask yourself- ‘On what percentage each of my problem statement helpful for a producing a successful product?’ Chart your answers on a sheet of paper and take the higher percentages as your go to idea. Doesn’t mean your lower percentages are bad, they are just what you need right now. Save them for showing your process. * #designlovers #designhome #lifeisfullofopportunities #creativityeveryday #designvibes #designinnovation #innovativeartists #creativemornings #creativeimagemagazine #creativewriting #icon #iconography #designvisual #desiresgraphic #graphicdesign #designprocess #designprocessstudio #voiceofvisualization (at Iowa State University)
Design: decide and develop the look and functioning of objects or other, through a detailed process Intent: to have a purpose What are your thought on that? How does both contribute each other? * #creativityeveryday #sundayfunday #design #designers #innovative #designvibes #designersmode #workcreative #designerinspired #designgraphic #designstudio #designbuild #designhome #designlovers (at Iowa State University)
One of the difficult and uncomfortable position for a student is to frame a problem. It is not that simple to understand the needs of a user. Plus, trying to see their real needs from do they really need it? Tip of the day: ask the right question to get the right answer. Do not takeaway any possibilities in the initial phase. Have an open mind and keep exploring. No idea is a bad idea! 1. Do deep research to validate your problem statement. 2. Amend your statement when you see the change in need. 3. Always have an evaluating panel with you and take positive critics for better design development. * * #design #lifeisfullofopportunities #designit #designersvibe #innovativedesign #designthinkers #criticalthinkers #researchers #designerpri #productdesign #industrialdesign #servicedesign
