James Victore - Motivational Posters

Today’s task was inspired by the talk that Legendary Designer James Victore gave at 99% Conference back in 2012. Where he walks you through his work with New York Cities, Department of Probation. The discussion of his work with the DOP starts at 3:55. (Watch it here: https://vimeo.com/46112891)  The objective today was to take a object (such as a jet, a fish, cats, etc..) and flip the idea of the ‘Motivational Poster’ on it’s head. Words were drawn at random and our designers were given 25 minutes to create their posters.

May the Fourth Be With you.

Today’s task, in celebration of ‘May the 4th’ the design team was each assigned a shape and was asked to build a droid using primarily that shape.

Our goal this week was to improve our story telling abilities. Given prompts the members on our design team were tasked with creating as many “Six Word Short Stories” as possible within their genre. These will be used in future Wednesday projects. 

“Alone in the woods, two voices”

“Sinking underwater, darkness starts taking hold.”

“Alone with the sounds of dragging footsteps.”

“The light flickers off, darkness consumes.”

“Whispers in the dark, alone again.”

“He walks slowly towards me, grinning.”

“Eyes aglow, growls rumbling from below.”

“Breathless from running, he's still following.”

“Thud, Thud, Thud, dirt piles on.“

“Trapped in a taken, waters rising.”

“Trees creak and snaps, lighting flashes.”

“Time takes time to welcome change”

“Computer vision. Bed becomes oversized pixel.”

“Heavy Breath Jolts Forward Gun Speaks”

“Listen to Lemonade yet? Jay-z did.”

“That Capulet girl… always so dramatic.”

“No Fingerprints, hair, or blood. Shit….”

“Detective discovers serial killer in mirror”

“He didn't know his own name...”

“The man in the mirror blinked.”

“The suns energy harvested to depletion.”

“Flung to another realm without food.”

“Oppressive omnipresent bureaucracy created swarming monkeys.”

“Humans feed though photosynthesis to survive.”

“Mechanical bird gods strike down rebels.”

4/20/2015 - Wednesday Meeting - Group 1

This week the team was split off into 3 groups of 4 and tasked to sit back to back, out in the Boston Public Garden and sketch what they see in front of them for 20 minutes. Each person was assigned a direction and their papers marked.

Afterwards we stitched each of their images together in After Effects using Skybox to create the 360° video experience you see at the top.

“Melting” - Katie Moraczewski

Each member of the design team was prompted to draw 3 After Effects effects out of hat were asked to create something unique with them. They were given 20 minutes and a few pre-determined presets.

Our designers were put in teams and tasked with creating a poster. Teams drew topics at random, and had to combine found imagery and type cut from vintage magazines to communicate their ideas.
