Sleeping Among the Stars (SFL & SMTO AU WIP)
> “What is reality? And what is a dream? To beings like us, there is no difference.”
Sleep was always hard for Aomaris. Well, to be fair, sleep was hard for all of his brothers. That was probably the more human parts of them retaliating against their more superior cosmic genes or maybe their own self consciousness keeping them awake. Whatever it was, it made it very hard for sleep to be an option for any of them. Aomaris wondered how Raestrao was able to stay asleep for so long without getting bored of his own dreams, he himself not standing the waiting around in his dreams just for some human fool to summon him and put themselves and their reality at risk of him devouring it as he pleased. His dreams have gotten boring, predicable, annoying. With each new dream Aomaris found that little by little he found that he utterly detested these mortal beings. It was all the same. Humans who summoned him only to want more information about his family, to get closerto them or to worship him for their own selfish gain. Whether it was power or money, it didn’t matter. Humans were always curious but selfish creatures.
And yet, his dreams were riddled with humanities very existence. He loathed it. Hated how paralyzed his physical form was and how he felt as though he had no control over his own body when he was forced to slumber. Hated how he had to basically just deal with humans and their incessant meddling. Hated how utterly *stupid* they can be and how him and his family basically had to keep them in line. It was the main reason why he rarely slept in the first place, much to the displeasure of his family.
Before hand he found his Auntie’s constant ranting about them to be unfair. But now, he knew exactly what Auntie Nyan Nyan was trying to say. Of course not in the same perspective as her. Her perspective of humans came more from…superiority. He remembered when he was young, how Auntie Nyan Nyan constantly scolded his mother for reproducing with a human and bringing him *“here.”* The here in question was the current resting place for him and the rest of his family. A giant floating fortress in the never ending cosmos. A place where they could peacefully rest as their real bodies slept and their minds wandered to their dreams.
“ESTIIIR!”
Or..at least it *was* supposed to be a peaceful place for them to rest. Aomaris groaned, a low growl emitting from the back of his throat as his teeth clenched in annoyance. He was supposed to be sleeping. After the last time he had awoken he found that it was getting increasingly harder to go back to sleep, much to the annoyance of himself and to the rest of the family. Auntie Nyan Nyan has especially been annoyed at this predicament. He found it odd that throughout the last couple millennia or two, that she as well was struggling to sleep. He remembered one time that Izroul, his half little brother, had asked why she wasn’t sleeping. Auntie Nyan Nyan only responding with a,
“Learn to keep your nonexistent nose out of your elders’ business and go back to sleep. I have enough Dogs to deal with. Now, do as your told unless you want another millennia of isolation.”
Aomaris found the interaction to be weird but didn’t question it. No one questioned anything when it came to Auntie Nyan Nyan.
Aomaris tried to go back to sleep, closing his eyes and clenching his jaw. Relaxing his body into the giant mattress, his nostrils flaring as he breathed in and steam coming out as he breathed out. “Just sleep. Just fall asleep.” His mind was muddled. With what he didn’t know. He can never pin point what caused his mind to wander and twist into knots. However, for the first time in a good while, he found that he was finally able to relax into his bed. Unclenching his jaw and teeth, unclenching his hands that he didn’t even realized were balled up into fists. One breath in, one breath out. He could feel the tension in his body finally start to fade as he slowly drifted to sleep.
“Finally..sleep.”
“STOP YOUR WHINING ZECAREU! YOU’RE DISTURBING MY SLEEP!”
”NO, I’M TIRED OF YOU STEALING MY CULTISTS!”
“IF YOU’RE SO TIRED, THEN DO US BOTH A FAVOR AND GO BACK TO YOUR SLUMBER YOU BARBARIC FOOL!”
“Fucking. Damnit.” Aomaris eyes shot open as the various yelling reverberated through the halls of the castle. A load groan escaped from the depths of his throat as he raised his clawed hands and roughly rubbed at his face. If the yelling went on any longer, he probably won’t be able to go back to sleep for much longer than he wanted. With an irritated sigh, he begrudgingly sat up in his bed. He raised his arms and arched his back, large draconic wings unfolding from his back to stretch wide. He was laying there for Gods knows how long. Maybe a good stretch and walking around would be good for him. Begrudgingly, he slipped out of bed and made his way out of his room, his large and heavy draconian tail thumping and dragging behind him.
Walking through the halls was always calming. Other then the current insistent yelling coming from down the hall, it was usually always quiet. The view of the stars and cosmos was always a sight to see. It was a shame that he couldn’t properly bask in it’s beauty. Always forced to slumber and live his life through his dreams. You would think that being an all powerful being with the will to do whatever he wanted would be more exciting. But no, being a cosmic deity was nothing like that. The only chance he got to experience any type of excitement was when the mortals summoned him, instantly dooming their reality for his to claim. But even that was getting old. Don’t get him wrong, he loved being who he was, but there were very few moments of where he got to spread his wings.
As Aomaris walked down the hall, he got closer and closer to the yelling, determining the yelling coming from his cousin’s room, Estir. He growled under his breath, a low hiss escaping him. Aomaris wasn’t very fond of Estir. He thought she was just a pompous wannabe king, acting like she was all high and mighty and better than the rest of their cousins and even her own sister. Estir was notorious in the family for stealing other’s cultists with no care in the world. Hell, she’s even stolen a couple of his own followers. Of course there were some members of the family that she wouldn’t even think about stealing cultists from, but that was mostly from the older outer gods. But for lesser known outer gods like Aomaris and his brothers, it was fair game to her.
Yeeaaa thats all I got so far. Might rework this or just rewrite the whole thing. This is really old so please don't mind the shitty writing!
