Danez Smith, Don't Call Us Dead
All non hindus are requested to shut the fuck up about hindu issues especially when
1. You don't know shit what you're yapping about
2. You didn't hear the word “kashmir”, “bharat”, “hindutva” 5 years ago!
3. Don't know history of India or Indian politics - how it's impacted the life of Indians over the years
4. Get all your precious knowledge from Instagram and Twitter.
5. Feel entitled to bullshit your way into comment section with half knowledge - burdening other people to "educate you" - only for you to say that you’re not an expert uwu
6. Have an Abrahamic especially Christian lens to view Hinduism as "just another religion".
I don’t think people realise the pain of being unable to connect with your native language and having to find comfort in a western, colonial language that is not yours. It feels like poison. Why do I quote Shakespeare and Byron but not Premchand or Varma? Why can I say so much in English but the smallest declaration of love in Hindi kills me and breaks me apart? It’s so hard not being able to speak your language.
