haha i’ve tried making an actual profile pic before but the image always looks too small and crunchy for my liking so…2 second smiley face it is!

i think i ended up liking the lineart stage of this more than the final version, but ah well

my hot art take of the day is that it’s better for your learning process to finish a piece than focus on making it beautiful! i went through the longest phase of abandoning things halfway through or giving up as soon as i didn’t like the direction it was going, but learning how to make a piece “feel finished” is an important technical skill that you only learn by making stuff you might not be the proudest of.

it’s perfectly fine to ditch something halfway through if you’re just not feeling it, but don’t let it become a pattern! whether it’s a simple sketch or a full illustration, try to push through that feeling every now and then, and who knows, sometimes it even results in your best work yet :)

one of my most ambitious pieces yet! i wanted to have a general wha print at my upcoming cons before indulging in doodles of specific scenes and characters :)

here’s the rough version for comparison! my initial sketches are always super imprecise, i’m just trying to figure out composition and color. i ended up using a ton of colors to add to the whimsy and magical feel, which is always a challenge compared to a monochromatic or complementary color scheme

overall i’m quite happy w how it turned out! i was very much doubting myself throughout the process, but i think the lined elements and the painted elements combine better than i’ve been able to combine them in the past

i have one more wha wip in the works! will be sharing the thumbnail sketch right after this post ;)

i’m going to be posting more wips and process pics for funsies (and to ward off the ai allegations)…i thought it’d be interesting to share a bit more of my thought process with y’all, plus when it comes to other artists’ work i tend to like their rough art the most <3

i want to get more follower engagement going! thinking of having polls where you can vote on what i draw next, which wip i finish first, etc. tbh i thrive more in places like discord where i can actually talk to people and social media isn’t quite the same, but i’ll do my best :)

also considering starting a mailing list…i always feel bad for posting merch updates bc it’s really just making you guys look at advertisements, so a mailing list would let you keep up w merch while giving people the choice to opt out if they’re not interested. lmk what you think!

i have a new personal goal of making one comic a month! no page requirements, so it could be as short as 1 panel or as long as 10+ pages…i have one from june that i just need to make a cover for, then i’ll post (❤️‍🩹🕯️)

and i think i’ll be recombining my original art into this account… @desm-draw was a fun experiment but ultimately i think it’s best to keep my art all in one place. would y’all be interested in seeing some oc stuff?

that should be all for now! i’m going to be busy this month and next prepping for fan expo boston and san japan, so expect to see a bunch of new stuff as i make it!

some updates!

oof sorry, didn’t mean to disappear for a month lol, i’ve just been busy with uhhhh stuff and uhhhhhh things

first getting business out of the way: shop update w new merch! including wooden magnets, embossed pokemon tins, and the long awaited illuga sticker :)

also will be posting a nicer graphic w this info but i’ll be at fan expo boston in august, and san japan in september. i’d love to meet y’all in person if you’re going to be there!

speaking of san japan…i kinda won the art contest? which is why i’m going to be there…check out the contest entries here :D

this has nothing to do with art but i think a chipmunk got in my house so i’m gonna have to deal with that at some point…

oh and i’m moving to my own apartment in the fall :> which means having to pay rent :<

anyway i’m currently reading witch hat atelier and having my mind blown a bit; will make art eventually but for now i want to bask in the story and worldbuilding

also am replaying botw and will finally get around to totk once i finish (remember when i said i was busy with uhhhhh stuff and things? yeah i just meant playing video games)
