my playlist for today
you know what’s really annoying? Looking up how to make a useful crafting tool , finding out there are at least 7 different ways to make one, and realizing you are capable of immediately executing 5 of them with resources at hand but you mostly really want to try that extremely involved sixth method… and maybe also all 5 of those other methods. just to test your ability
An Archive of Our Own, a project of the Organization for Transformative Works
summary: The Amateur Hunters take a road trip so Gon can see the small-billed swans. Spinner tries to find her footing in a world that has shifted in ways that everyone else seems to have missed. (title source)
notes: first, some long-overdue thank yous: to my collaborator @desolatesandwich, without whom this wouldn't exist and has been awesome in general and specific; to the exceptional mods for @hxhrarepairbb, for which this was written; and to my friend and beta, who dealt with more of me than usual while working on this. also thanks to margaret atwood for so clearly articulating the possible meanings of "the parting glass" (x)!
this fic is technically about spinner and kite, and coming to terms with things you can't control, or won't. it's also my attempt, and not always succeeding, to write something in the middle of...well, you know. hope yall are staying safe and getting vaccinated as it becomes available. spinner and kite, spinner and the amateur hunters and gon freecss, post-chimera ant-typical emotions, gen. 9600 words.
for your listening pleasure: a playlist! featuring the working title for the fic, which is of course a terrible pun.
it started as a joke and now I can’t stop drawing gritty
figure out how to make a king candy gritty @canalsobemoe says. you drove me to this
@desolatesandwich told me to draw pariging in titties out outfits and ive never taken so much psychic damage in one go in my entire life
@canalsobemoe started out the evening by throwing down with the titties out outfits and I was but a hapless passenger
take responsibility for the natural progression of your own hubris
new fandom, new crossover connections in my brain that don't make sense
2021 hourly comics day!
highlight of the day: Dragon Age II with @canalsobemoe
low point of the day: my inadvisable sleep schedule
Dec- discord drawing meet-up discussion; started with mushishi, became group anime jackson galaxy drawing.
please imagine mushishi jackson galaxy
discord drawing meet-up is one of the things that are keeping me going this year
april- surprise swiss chard sprouting from an empty pot, neglected for a month, but still full of vigour
this swiss chard has been through so much. it started from a community garden in 2018, then the community garden had to be destroyed because of construction, but i noticed swiss chard sprouting from the dirt pile discards the next year so i rescued it, had a great harvest in 2019, and thought that was the end of that. this year was also a good harvest- i wonder if it will come back next year
journal doodles- plant edition!
Jan- many of my plants started blooming for the first time. succulent flowers are very exciting
July- cactus intervention for my brother’s ward, mysteriously rotting in the middle
May- peach and persimmon trees from the tree van, planted with bone and blood and feathers
April- snake yoga: enrichment for all
Oct- one yr anniversary of snake
snake contribution: sit on temperature/humidity monitor power button until it shuts off, creating an intriguing puzzle
my contribution: rats
Feb- life drawing at the aquarium and zoo; exhausted brain does terrible math but with such confidence and conviction that I convinced a zoo employee to give me $5
April >> ongoing- zoom interview hell
oct- spend all day following my brother around a youth golf tournament, try to leave, get stuck behind a police blockade on the only road out because of a car chase leading to a man hunt in the nearby woods
watching small children angrily snapping their baseball caps against their legs is hilarious
Jan- almost the first thing I did this year was a jaunt to nyc to see “the last knight” (pre renaissance european arms and armour) exhibit at the Met. Got distracted getting out of the museum by the incredible exhibit “making marvels”(scientific instruments, curiosities, and automata of early modern Europe), missed my bus, and had to run halfway across manhattan to reach the final bus of the evening to escape the city.
triple headed bird chimeric thing was a small sculpture in making marvels and i love it.
october- walking in the rain, stomping in puddles with heavy boots
October 6- picked up strings and then went wandering in nearby woods and bridge of echoes
“it’s been a long week” says the violin seller whose store opened for the week that morning
i am still not over the travesty of this stringing disaster. someone in my family did this.
