It’s not for lack of trying, if it’s any consolation to him; the moment she was well enough to do so, Raine had attempted to track Laguna down, when her leads for Squall had gone dry. But he seemed unreachable, especially once Esthar locked down its borders, and she lost any sense of a trail to follow.
And once they opened again, she hesitated - fearing the worst, wondering how he would react to seeing his long-dead wife waltz right back into his life.
“I thought you wouldn’t believe it was really me. Like you’d think you were seeing things or couldn’t look me in the eyes.”
“I-- I do believe it’s really you!” Laguna took her hands in his own, holding their warmth, almost in disbelief that she was actually there in front of him, living and breathing.
He had gone so far, for so long, without her. It hadn’t been easy by a long shot, and that is where Ellone had helped. Providing that familial support along the way. But he had to admit, seeing the love of his life in front of him, the one and only he had ever asked to marry him, was something that nearly made his knees weak.
“I know it wasn’t easy to track me-- That’s my fault, but, you have to understand. Ellone was something else, something of a ...weapon. I was a soldier-- It was purely military. I’m so sorry, Raine, that you couldn’t find us,” he breathed a soft reply to her, shaking his head.
“You’re here in front of me, right now. That’s all that matters. If you’re willing, I can work through any issues you have with me, Raine. I’m.... I’m here for you, regardless of what you want with me,” he whispered, still squeezing her hands in his.
