so many things in chot are like, straight up nonsensical. like the whole Esme making up the family tree and James & Lucie losing their powers when Belial "died" etc, none of that made sense and felt like cc was just taking the easy way out instead of dealing of the repercussions of things she wrote and published
I can write an essay on all the stuff in this book that was straight up an easy out for CC, honestly
- Lucie and James losing their powers because Belial died (this makes no freaking sense, I'm sorry)
- A random Shadowhunters MAKING UP a family tree?? Just for fun? Not even actually checking up with who's dead and who's alive??
- Belial's favor to Jem is because Jem supposedly told the characters "hey, don't bother the new Belial and he won't bother you"? That was probably the worst, it's so stupid, I'm sorry
- Bridget being alive in TDA because she was struck by a lightning?
- Christopher dying and almost everyone's reaction to that basically (like, I'm sorry, his death was absolutely useless and it was only because 1) CC can't kill a protagonist or their love interests (Cordelia, James, Lucie, Jesse), 2) can't kill the person on the cover (Grace) and 3) doesn't want to play into 'bury your gays' trope. Christopher, Eugenia and Alexander were basically the only options and since one Sophigideon child is dead and Alexander is a baby, the only choice is Christopher. Fact is: someone just had to die and Kit was the best option)
- Skipping Cordelia and Lucie's parabatai ceremony - I know there's a short story with it or something but this is extremely important even for your two protagonists?? You shouldn't leave something like that as a bonus scene outside of the book, just so you don't make it longer
- CC specifically letting us know Wessa cried because James and Lucie are trapped in London but not even a mention of Gabrily mourning THEIR OWN DEAD CHILD?! And in the epilogue having them SMILING AND HAVING FUN WITH THE REST??
- Lucie got a bad vibe from Malcolm from the very beginning in the book but continuing to call him for help and talk with him?
- There were also a lot of missing things we were told will be explained: the Blackthorn sword name, Thomas writing songs, Woosley Scott had to return, something about a surprising baby, explanation why the modern Blackthorns don't see ghosts like the Herondales when they're their descendants... Maybe a few more I'm forgetting (some of these are said long time ago and it's normal to be changed/removed but let's be honest - half of these easily could have made it into the book without adding too much to the page count)
yes exactly! you get it <3
another thing that kinda bothered me is that we find out like 5 different major storylines got resolved off page from Eugenia 😭 love you girl & love that you got page time but... huh?? wdym Sona's given birth. On that point specifically, we don't even see the moment Alastair & Cordelia meet Zachary!! like Jem (?) mentions they're excited and then... time skip. In which, we find out Alastair has been a great older brother (love that!) but absolutely nothing about Cordelia. like girl you're narrating right now! how do you feel about being a big sister?? having a little baby brother to dote on??? not even a passing mention to the fact he's named after Brother Zachariah/Jem??? (and how it symbolises the Carstairs family healing??)
also the fact the whole Will and Tessa being put on trial/Charles being blackmailed plot line served absolutely no purpose but to out Charles to the entire clave & get all the adults out of London.... like what was that, bsffr
beware of more plot holes and reasons why this book was so ...?????
We got the Parabatai Ceremony that was supposed to happen in book 1 and it was so...underwhelming? Futile?
is it just me or did some of these things... never happen
also no "dying in your arms" quote 😐
Also, no “[some shadowhunter] will be stripped off their marks scene” mentioned by Jem or did we all imagine it?
"with a gang of ducks chasing his ass, Will ran."
the end.
“I think we were meant to be…but we did it wrong.” [inspo]

“lucie has never had romantic feelings towards matthew and thinks of him as a brother!!!”
this argument is a true goldmine for mucie nation, thank you for helping me prove a negative:
then why has she never referred to him as her cousin? it would make perfect sense since
1) she refers to his parents as aunt charlotte and uncle henry
2) she has no problem calling another merry thief (that she isn’t related to) her cousin, aka thomas
3) she and james have referred to charles, matthew’s brother, as their (annoying) older cousin
what is the difference then? why wouldn’t lucie consider matthew a cousin when she clearly has no problem referring to other affectionate bonds as blood relations?
because. she. has. fancied. him. since. they. were. kids.
it’s that easy. i’m not saying she’s consciously head over heels for him at this point in the story. i’m just saying their dynamic is more complex than matthew simply having a puppy crush on her and lucie not reciprocating. goodnight
“Many of my movies have strong female leads - brave, self-sufficient girls that don’t think twice about fighting for what they believe in with all their heart. They’ll need a friend, or a supporter, but never a saviour. Any woman is just as capable of being a hero as any man.” -Hayao Miyazaki
Happy International Women’s Day!
You’d think after 19+ books this fandom would have better reading comprehension
yes and let’s not stop at that...

@destinedtobemine: haha imagine if Lucie becomes an Iron Sister and Matthew becomes a vampire
me: WAIT this would be a perfect reverse parallelism to Tessa being immortal and Jem a Silent Brother—
Why do we keep hurting ourselves I ask, why
(BTW I still don’t subscribe to the whole “Matthew is going to be a vampire” thing)
