We all know the dangers of posting our work online. I believe we all take the risk of being ripped off, once we make our work public. That’s not to say that this is warranted!
This person Cameron Petitte contacted me wanting to use my art on t-shirts, in return for royalty money (see above emails). I FIRMLY DECLINED this offer and explained that if I ever wanted to put my images on clothing or anything, I would DO IT MYSELF. This website/company was clearly of no interest to me. I explained I was not interested, to which he replied “you could potentially be making thousands of dollars” as they are a “pretty known brand.” Yeah ok *hairflip*
Today I pulled up the website to show a friend this company and LO AND BEHOLD I see a t-shirt titled “Inspired Art Shirt” with parts of two of my collages Frankenstein’d together. It’s ugly af and I was livid! It is so infuriating to see my shit so blatantly ripped off with no mention of me. It is SO INFURIATING to have someone go behind your back after being declined permission. There is no excuse, and there has been no miscommunication.
I’m currently sorting this out and am super grateful to have support from my friends and colleagues/also from my school institution. A lawyer has been contacted. I wanted to make a public post about it in case this company attempts to use anyone else’s work on their products/maybe they’re already doing it and you don’t know! Please take a look, and be wary of them:
