Headcanon: Aspect Children (aka Malli’s “true” title)

In relation to this ask here.

In basic terms, an Aspect Child (shortened to just “Child” in some cases) is a mortal who is granted limited power by their Patron deity. Unlike heralds and others, Children are chosen seemingly randomly and remain mortal after being granted their power (this does not apply to all Children, as some such as Children of Life, Destruction, and Creation have ways to live forever).

In a sense, it’s more of the Patron’s “spirit” that chooses Children. This spirit can be found at key places relating to the Legendary Pokémon, such as temples and other key landmarks, an example being Turnback Cave for Children of Distortion. 

A Child can go their entire life without actually meeting their Patron. All they know upon receiving the title is that it’s their new title and they have a task to do. What that is can vary, though most often it’s to spread the influence of their Patron with their new abilities. If a Child actually does get to meet their Patron, they may be given something greater to do, though that varies greatly in specific cases. Most of the time, a Patron won’t even know that their Child(ren) exists until they either meet them or can sense them somewhere. As they get older, a Child’s abilities may grow with them, though the chance of this happening is very slim if they don’t meet their Patron. 

When it comes to the “hierarchy” of a Legend’s followers, a Child can be found very close to the bottom, just above regular humans. A single Patron can have multiple Children, sometimes going into the double or triple digits in amounts. 

Depending on their Aspect (meaning what their Patron symbolizes or exists for, as Yveltal = Destruction, Zygarde = Balance, etc.), a Child’s abilities can differ greatly from other Children, or not much at all, and the same goes for Children of the same Patron. One Child of Destruction, for example, may be able to take life energy from living things. Others can kill weak or small beings with a touch, and so on. The ability granted to a Child mostly depends on where they were granted their power and how much of their Patron’s spirit was there at one time.
