She/her. I’m enhancing old SPN con videos to make them more watchable and accessible. I'm excessively fond of J2, both together and separately. I'm not "tinhat", but I enjoy suspending my disbelief on occasion and I love their friendship.
Some personal opinions I feel very strongly about:
* I don't support hateful/antagonistic posts
about ANY actor or group of fans or ship.
* Don't quote haters to "refute" them. You become a source of that hate yourself by spreading it to people who wouldn't have seen it otherwise and you give the haters a broader reach.
* Post about what you love, not what you hate.
* Promote kindness.

I'm working on the last video from LA in March 2009, Misha's solo panel. I'm expecting a 6-week turnaround time. After that, I plan to tackle Asylum #2 from 2009.
Thank you to everyone who has shown an interest in these videos. The reblogs and likes all made me very happy, and I especially appreciated the kind comments some of you left in your reblog text and tags. I'm unsure of the proper Tumblr way to respond directly to that in a way that won't annoy people, but I've definitely noticed and appreciated it!
An explanation of this project and my plans for it are listed below the break. A lot of it will be familiar if you've read my earlier posts, but it's more detailed -- and excessively long! There's also some info on how you can help, especially if you have any old videos or audio files that you'd be willing to contribute.
Why Do You Call These "Enhanced Editions"?
The videos I'm using are not my own, but I've spent many hours adding enhancements to them. My goal is to make these the most watchable and accessible versions of these older convention panels published to date. Credit and links to the original videos are in the video descriptions. These are the typical enhancements you'll see:
When possible, I'm upscaling the videos. This doesn't always work, especially on videos that are lower quality to begin with, but sometimes it makes a significant improvement in video quality.
When necessary, I'm correcting colors on the videos to try to make them look more natural and consistent. I'm very inexperienced in this area, and I don't consider it to be one of my strengths, but I'm learning.
The original videos are usually in multiple parts, but I'm editing them together into a single video as cohesively as possible. I may use videos from multiple sources to provide the most complete video possible, and I'll select the ones with the highest video quality and/or the best view of the action available. Sometimes I have to make difficult choices between the video with the best view (meaning a clear view of their actions and/or facial expressions) and the video with the best quality. I usually lean toward the one with the best view in those cases. I also choose the clearest audio I can find, so the audio you hear didn't always come from the video you're watching.
I'm adding extra content to help clarify references people make during the panels. The videos I've worked with so far don't take up the full width of a modern video frame, so I've taken advantage of that extra space to display the extra content to the side where it's less obtrusive. There are explanations for obscure references that are way funnier when you understand what they mean, plus episode references to help jog the memory for those of us who haven't rewatched the show a million times. In rare cases where I think it will enhance understanding, I'll insert brief episode clips that highlight what they're talking about.
I'm putting a LOT of time into adding good, color-coded English subtitles that can be turned on and off with YouTube's CC button. These videos can be frustrating to understand because the audience often drowns them out and Jared and Jensen tend to talk at the same time when they're together. I can't always figure everything out, but it's far better than the crazy, auto-generated nonsense that many videos have. YouTube can then translate my English subtitles into other languages, so this improves their accessibility. The color-coding helps with telling who's saying what: red for Jared, blue for Jensen, green for the general audience, yellow for the current fan at the microphone, and white for other people such as staff.
If there's missing footage that I can't find anywhere, then if I can find a source that seems to have reliable details about what was discussed, I'll add static images with a brief summary and a link to my source in the video description.
What Conventions Do You Plan to Enhance?
I don't want to make grand promises that I'll enhance videos for every old convention, although I definitely love the idea of doing so. How far I go with this will depend on how much sustained interest there is from other people and how much spare time I have myself.
My main focus is the panels with Jared and/or Jensen. They're the ones I'm most interested in and it takes a certain level of obsession to spend this many hours watching the same video over and over as part of the editing process! If I obtain any mostly-complete videos of Misha's solo panels that upscale well, I may also do some of those. I have done a couple of his already. He will also of course be included if he's in a panel with Jared and/or Jensen.
I haven't quantified exactly what "old" is, so I can't tell you I plan to work on all videos up through a specific year and then stop. For now I'm just plowing my way through with blinders on until one of four things happen: 1) I don't feel like I'm adding any value any more, 2) I no longer have the time or energy for the project, 3) everybody else has lost interest in the project and nobody's watching anymore, or 4) I've reached cons that are recent enough that the original video takers don't want their videos used for this project.
Can I Help?
If you have any old convention videos or audio files that you're willing to contribute, please message me! Maybe I can use them, maybe I can't, but the more I have to work with, the better chance I have of creating something more complete. If I do use your material, I'll credit you in whatever manner you prefer.
Even if your videos are on YouTube, it would save me a lot of angst if you could reach out to me and let me know about your channel in case I haven't found it already and confirm if you'd be ok with my using your videos. If you have videos that you don't want me to use, please let me know that too and I will respect that. I spend a good amount of time trying to track people down before I use their videos. If I can find a way to reach them, then I request permission first. I've managed to make contact with several very generous people, but a lot of people have also fallen off the face of the earth. If I can't find an active account for someone, then I go ahead and use their videos, but always with some trepidation that I might eventually piss someone off. Many of the older videos have already been republished by other people without credit, and I do always credit my sources, even if I only use a second or two of audio from their video.
If you send me videos that I'm able to upscale and/or color correct, then I'd be happy to send those updated versions back to you for your collection regardless of whether or not I use them.
Even if your video looks terrible, you might just have a missing piece of footage that I couldn't find anywhere else, or your video might upscale more easily than another. Some of the footage I've gotten the most excited about has been audio-only footage or very low quality video footage that captured a few seconds from a panel that nobody else captured. If nothing else, I might be able to hear something in the audio that will help me fill in a subtitle I couldn't figure out.
I've greatly appreciated everyone who has contributed to this project by freely sharing their recordings. I also appreciate everyone who has watched my videos and especially those who have taken the time to let me know that you're enjoying them or benefitting from them in some way. Thank you!
Just wanted to drop a line that what you’re doing with spn convention panels is amazing and I’m so grateful, I always loved watching those videos but sadly with all the background noise and not being a native speaker I missed about half of what they’ve been saying, now I came back to re-watching and your videos are so accessible it’s unreal :-)

Even for me, as a native speaker with good ears, I found those early convention videos overwhelming when I first started watching them. It was my first time watching videos recorded by fans right smack in the middle of a very excited audience and my ears short-circuited from too much input I think. I would find myself laughing and then realize I had absolutely no idea why I was laughing except for that they all seemed to be having such a good time and I wished I knew what was so funny. 🤣

i downloaded subtitles from every video in the playlist by Emily Kitchen, Every Jared & Jensen Panel (up to date 2026) and all of @detailtilted videos which have full and correct captions. current total is 591 transcripts.
you can search exact phrases by "search phrase in quotes", if you use multiple words not in quotes, it will only return things with every word in your search.
after you search, on the right under the three line button, you can open the filters. i labeled panels that were jared and jensen only as j2, their respective solo panels and everything else falls under others; which may include j2 as well or just one of them. once you click through to a panel, there's tags which includes the year, the con and the people.
i also include an embedded youtube video that the transcript came from. recommend find in page/ctrl-f if you're looking for a specific phrase/word because they often aren't super easy to read due to being largely based on the auto-generated captions (which are getting better all the time but a con panel environment isn't always great audio)
the numbers are the timestamps, so this one for example, you can go to the 6 minute mark in the video to find it.
for the case of gayled_it's videos, i fortunately downloaded the transcripts before her account got zapped so they are in here!
the gayle's archive link will take you to the relevant folder on the google drive that Kanata set up which an archive of all of her videos that we could track down (with approval from gayle), link to the drive in their twitter bio, also here. i preserved the original youtube link so you can use it in the wayback machine on archive.org as well, if needed/desired.
this is primarily for searching the transcripts, but it also serves kind of as a way to find videos in an organized fashion with the consistent tags for the cons, the people and years. hopefully it's useful on both fronts!
i'm working with @j2wiki on also combining their archive of transcriptions into this project, which are complete/readable. i'll keep everyone updated on that as it goes.

It's only about 10 minutes, but since it's unlikely we'll get much more, I thought I'd go ahead and post it. If we get any more clips from his Saturday panel, I'll reblog this post with those links. If we get anything from his Sunday panel, I'll put that in a separate post.
I don't usually post opening ceremony video links, I usually just share more substantial panel videos, but:
So far all I've seen shared on social media from the opening ceremony are clips cropped for portrait that don't show everyone and/or don't have the whole ceremony. This video shows pretty much everything.
I doubt we'll get any substantial panel videos since this is one of the cons that doesn't permit video recordings. So at least this is a "full" video of something!

After Gayle confirmed she was ok with her videos being shared, the following account on X reached out to the fandom to compile all the known archived videos from Gayle's channel onto a Google Drive link.
You can find it in the bio at the this account: Kanata. (I'm linking to the bio rather than to the drive itself so people know who to credit for compiling it.)
If anyone happens to have any other Gayle videos that they've archived, it would be awesome if you could share them with Kanata so the repository could be more complete. There are still a few known to be missing, especially from panels with actors besides Jensen and Jared. I know for sure we're missing three J2 videos from the Birmingham 2018 gold panel. I also suspect a few other Jared and/or Jensen videos may be missing, but I don't have confirmed video links to be sure if they existed or not.
As I posted a few days ago, Gayle herself did say she'd share her videos on a Google Drive link as well. I'm not sure if/when she'll get the chance to do that, but hopefully that will help us pick up the last few Jared & Jensen videos we're missing. Unfortunately she didn't have any of the other actors' videos saved so we'll only have whatever other fans have archived.
I'm tagging every actor I saw in the archived file names, but the vast majority of the videos are of J2.

They actually posted 3 videos that are the same length, so I'm guessing they had trouble with the upload process and may end up deleting a couple of them. So I'm just putting all three links here, because I don't know which two (if any) they will delete and hopefully at least one will still work if someone sees it down the road.

Here's a new J2 video! This is very close to the full panel, although about 7 minutes' worth will be audio-only coverage. If you weren't a fan back in these earlier years, or if you've never run across the audio recordings, some of this coverage may be new to you.
There's also a short gap with no coverage at all when they were giving their closing remarks, but thanks to j2wiki's transcript from back when more footage was available, I was able to put a transcript of what was missed in the sidebar
The video quality is quite low (when it's not absent altogether!), but there's so much hilarity in this panel that it's still worth watching. The above thumbnail will probably remind you of one of the funny parts if you've seen this panel before.
What's Next?
Next up is Misha's solo panel. It took place later in the day after this J2 panel. This was only his second convention.
I have about 43.5 minutes' worth of coverage with a gap of unknown length somewhere in the middle. About 12 minutes of the coverage will be audio-only. 11 minutes is all in one big section with no video and the rest is scattered across very small bits of video gaps. That extra audio content is a major reason why I decided to do Misha's panel too; I like it when I feel like I can add something that isn't readily available to the fandom and probably hasn't been seen (or heard in this case!) by as many people.
I'm going to aim for a 6-week turnaround time. I'll finish sooner if I can, but I'm still having some trouble keeping up with everything on my plate at the moment. I'll also be out of town for a few days soon which means I'll lose some video editing days. I'm trying to give myself some breathing room to keep the stress levels from climbing too high.
After I finish Misha's panel, I plan to tackle Asylum #3 from 2009 which should be quite an endeavor! I haven't watched those videos in a long time, but I remember them as being in bad shape. I'm pretty sure there won't be any complete panels, but I'm not sure how bad it will be. I'll see what I find once I start digging into the footage in a few weeks. They had a J2 panel, two solo Jared panels, and one solo Jensen panel.
Before/After Comparison Photos
This source was used for about 6.5 minutes' worth of the video. I also used 14.5 minutes' worth of their audio. I used bits and pieces from several other sources that are credited in my video description on YouTube. I also used about 9 minutes of video from various clips that Candygramme sent me from her archives. They appear to be from a few different sources that I didn't see on YouTube, with different angles and different levels of quality.
