Once the initial shock wore off, a smile slowly blossomed on the man’s face. It was hard to remember anything but the good memories, hitting him like a tidal wave as he took a few quick steps to close the space between them and pull her into a warm hug. “ It is so good to see you, “ he murmured into her hair, holding on for another moment before stepping back so he could face her. Cassius grinned at her words, though the word haven quickly made it turn bashful. “ You give me more credit than is deserved, “ he told her, rubbing the back of his neck a bit. “ How long have you been in town ? Are you staying, or visiting ? “
If her heart still beat it would be pounding, she had expected a myriad of reactions from him but none were as sweet as the one she received. Letting her eyes fall closed she enjoyed the feeling of his arms around her, enjoyed having him close to her again. Even if it wasn’t what it was before she missed him. Even still no one made her feel like he did. “No. You deserve it and more. You’ve never been good at accepting praise. Accept it, at least from me. You’ll get it even if you don’t.” She was probably always going to support him and there was a part of her that hated that. He hadn’t thought of her and yet to her he was still the world. “Staying. I decided it was time I stayed in the states for more than a month.”
another long day doing tattoos, some more meaningful than others, and tyren was ready to close up any minute for the night. the shop was open for another hour but that was the perk of being his own boss. as soon as he had his mind made up, the shop bells rang, signaling a new customer. looking up from where he was squatting down to adjust one of the chairs, he turned to look at the new arrival. “welcome to the shop. looking for a tattoo tonight or just looking?”
“Just looking around.” She didn’t have any tattoos and wasn’t interested in getting any. But she was interested in the city. Of all her years she never really found many reasons to be in New York. Most of her time was spent in Asia or Europe. “I’m new to the city, decided to see what’s in the city.”
She flipped the card in her fingers, a useless omen that did nothing to bother her. But it was curious, someone trying to scared the entire supernatural world along with the humans. A threat of exposure as well. If things were too bad here she would leave, but she was too interested right now. “It’s been such a long time Ophelia. What a wondrous event to bring us together again.” @opxliaelv
Cassius thought he was hallucinating when he heard the ding of the elevator; it had been a few hours since the majority of his staff had left for the evening, and he was fairly sure he was the only one left on the floor. Surely it was just Petra having forgotten something, or coming back to do some last minute paperwork. But instead out of the elevator walked a ghost. Not a literal one, but Devani may as well have been. She was dressed different than he remembered, more Westernized for sure, but there was no mistaking those eyes. There was no mistaking HER.
It took a moment for him to process his thoughts, staring at her open-mouthed. Her question was exactly what he had been wondering himself. “ Devani. “ He didn’t even know where to begin. “ What… are you doing here ? “
Before now she’d been afraid to admit she’d feared he’d forgotten her. Afraid that after so many years she’d just faded into another face of his long past. Devani would never forget him, could never forget him if she wanted to. Cassius was her savior, he was everything. Those fears were eased as soon as she admitted them, the way his face changed, the look in his eyes. He knew exactly who she was.
“Finding you.” After so many years surely he’d gotten over their spat. He’d probably sired a few more of his own, gotten over the idea that it was ‘murder’ to save them from the horrors of humanity. “There are many interesting things in the city but... none can ever match up to the one in front of me can they?” Scanning the room she took in the office, everything was far more modern than when they last saw each other of course but she could still see him in every part of the room. “Besides, you’ve made a haven here for our kind it seems, what place would be better suited?”
he always thought that if he saw his sire again, he wouldn’t recognize whoever they were. maybe it was alcohol or plain old repression but he’d forgotten a lot of what happened that night, spent with too many people and many things to overwhelm him. yet, her face appeared from his memory, crystal clear. she’s smiling like she did then, and len can’t help but flinch away. “ no … kidding … ” he shakes his head, tries to keep himself from sprinting off. “ i don’t remember your name. ”
Her jaw clenched when he moved away from her, she’d been used to that reaction but everytime one of her children recoiled from her it burned. “Devani.” Even still she smiled at him. Of course he would be angry with her and he had every right to be. She had to leave him, take him to a safe place and leave him. It was cruel but it was better that than be found. “I’m so sorry my darling.” Devani shook her head, still she didn’t touch him. She’d let him decide when that was allowed. “I had to run to save us. To save you!”
cecilia raised a brow at the other, feigning to be confused as if she didn’t know what ‘ tricks ‘ she was talking about. despite not wanting help, cecilia knew that it would have been dumb to stand there battling with the door while there was someone there to help her. “um, sure. thank you,” cecilia nodded her head, readjusting the bags in her arms to have a better grip.
The fake ignorance didn’t fit the woman, she must not have seen Devani before she’d used her bit of magic. “Of course.” she grabbed the keys and opened the door for the woman, “You’ve lived here long?”
Unfamiliar would be the word to describe the lady. Ashley figured she would know a majority of supernaturals around the city, but clearly she was wrong. And if she was any younger she’d be naive enough to think the woman standing before her was the cause of this incident. After all, the power exuding from her was immense, but she would know better than to cross this vampire with just assumptions. So she opted to keep her snarky side away, not wanting to cause any trouble in a night such as this. “ No, we don’t. But I was nearby so I figured I might as well check it out. ” She turned back to look at the bloody scene. “ What brings you here ? ”
“I didn’t think so. At least not the coven witches here, usually much smarter than this.” This was either someone untrained, wild or someone who wanted to leave a message. Perhaps to the hunters or to the witches. “I’ve seen some leave scenes like these in far off parts of the world.” Devani’s eyes trailed over the scene before them, a nasty bit of business. “The smell. I have to admit I got curious at the scent of so much blood in a witches neighborhood. Well I would have gotten curious anywhere with this much blood.”
jace pulls at the roots of their hair, eyes scanning over the same shelf over and over again as they gnaw on their lip. the call numbers are all blurring together and their mind is a bit too loud for comfort. perhaps that’s why they startle with someone reaches out and touches their shoulder, snapping them away from the anxious running of their mind.
“sorry!”
they apologize before pausing and reconsidering the apology since they really didn’t do anything wrong. but it would be rude, so instead they plaster on a smile, setting the books on the shelf they have been staring at for the past ten minutes.
“how can i help you today?”
Witches had interested Devani, for a while she wished she’d been born one of them. If that had been the case her life would never have turned the way it did. But she was a vampire and if she had to trade this life for that she’d chose this one a million times.over. “Oh no forgive me.” she hadn’t meant to bother them, “You were staring and... not moving. I only wanted to check on you.”
as much as ashley appreciated sleep, she loved the smell of something suspicious brewing. thus explains her current predicament, standing in front of a pile of blood in the middle of a dark street two blocks away from her home. granted, it wasn’t wise for her to be so exposed but she most certainly wouldn’t have done such a risky thing without making sure she was well protected. the ward she had placed in her housing area had gone off, signalling that something bad had happened and she was somehow, too late to salvage the situation. she wondered then as to who would be so daring to do such a thing, when she felt a presence creep up behind her. “ if you were trying to be discreet, let me tell you up front that you are failing terribly, ” she said in a sarcastic manner before turning around to see who or what it was she was facing.
Howl this strange it was to find a scene like this in the middle of a street, someone young had done this, no question of that. Hearing footsteps she quickly stepped away into the shadows, she was too new to the city to be found with this around her. A witch had found the scene, a good person to step away from. But she wasn’t hiding well enough, “I would have been more discreet than who ever did... this mess.” Devani stepped out into the street light, “Do witches usually do this?”
after spending what felt like hours at the farmer’s market, cecilia had finally begun to make her way back to her small apartment, paper bags filled to the brim with fresh produce and herbs. she kept her head down, a habit of hers she had for decades. she was almost to her door when one of the bags fell, spilling the contents all over the sidewalk. with a quick glance to see if anyone was watching, she waved her hand, causing everything to roll back into the bag and into her arms. she continued her way to the apartment building, struggling to get out her key before that fell on the ground as well. pinching the bridge of her nose with her free hand, she muttered, “today is just not my day.”
Devani wasn’t used to hybrids she didn’t know much about them. They were mysteries to her, and for that reason she wanted to know more about them. If therem was a chance she could have one she wanted that. “And yet you have so many tricks you can use.” Giving her a smile she held her hand out, “I can unlock it for you if you’d like.”
She was sure he was one of them, she always remembered their faces even if she didn’t get to stay long. “How have you been?” she stepped closer to him than necessary, looking over his face, searching for any imperfections, as if there would be any of them. “You’ve been alone for too long. I can never forgive myself for that.” @talkngdust
Staring up at the building Devani scrunched her nose, a law firm was so stuffy. She’d taken over an art museum herself but a law firm, it was so strict and set in ancient ways of ‘justice’. How incredibly Cassius. Walking inside she removed her sun glasses, her body thanking her for finally getting out of the sun. If she’d had any other choice she wouldn’t have come here, she had no desire to be around these hunters. People designed to kill their kind should have been someone anyone with half a brain would avoid. But if this was where she’d find Cassius she’d deal with them. A sad necessity
The ding of the elevator pulled her attention away from her distaste for these human hunters and back to the present. “Cassius.” Luck did smile upon her sometimes. Her eyes scanned him, he looked the same, dressed more appropriately for the time of course but still... she looked exactly as she remembered. “How long has it been?” Too long. If she’d have been stronger she’d have come to him sooner, if she’d have been less afraid of his rejection. @dusklaced
𝓋𝒶𝓂𝓅 𝒶𝓅𝓅 ( sonam kapoor. female, she/her, god is a woman + ariana grande. ) have you seen DEVANI GADHAVI walking around central park during lunch time? rumor has it they’re THIRTY, but i think their mental age is 2,500+. currently, they’re posing as a MUSEUM CURATOR at METROPOLIN MUSEUM, and during dark you can always find them going home to MANHATTAN by LIMO. apparently, they DID attend the met gala this year!
Born over 2,500 years ago Devani doesn’t exactly remember when she was born. She knows what happened after.
She was groomed from a young age to marry the maharaja of India. He was an older man, one she had no interest in but he was the maharaja. Marrying him meant she would be the empress, she would be his queen.
At age 12 she was taken into the court and then at 17 she was married. She didn’t care for his harem, they were lesser and she was always above them. Devani would always be above them all.
For years she was happy but unlucky in childbirth. She gave her husband no son’s or daughters. The only job she had she was failing. A queen who couldn’t give birth was worth nothing. Eventually she was simply in the way, ladies of his harem would visit him and he would say nothing to her. Rumors flew through the palace that she was cursed, that her body was barren because she’d been with another man.
But as the years passed none of the other women gave birth either, he was given no children, legitimate or illegitimate. To Devani it was clear the reason. She told one of her ladies, the maharaja was the one who couldn’t have children. The woman she trusted wasn’t as trustworthy as she seemed.
When her husband found out she’d said that he ordered her head. Speaking against a man chosen by the gods was a sin punishable by death. Devani was stripped of everything, all the titles she deserved, everything she had loved was gone. The only thing that saved her was her uncle, a member of the court and a man who had freed her. Saved her from death.
But what she found after escaping was worse than death. She had no idea how to survive on her own and she had no one in the outside world. She was on her own and had no one there. Famine was rampant among the poor and a woman who had no one, a stranger wasn’t given any help.
By the time she was saved it had been two months. Devani was starving, she’d been beat and she was dying. Cassius Lallemant found her and saved her life. Becoming the first vampire the man sired.
To Devani Cassius was her savior, she was dedicated to him and eventually she fell in love with him. He was perfect in every way, handsome, brave, and he shined brighter than anyone else ever had.
She wanted more though, she had him but she wanted all the other things she deserved. She started whispering in his ear, telling him they needed more, that they could save people. They could do what he did for her, for so many people.
Devani acted too soon though, she’d seen a girl and she became obsessed with her, she was a beauty and she loved her. So she turned her, given herself the daughter she always deserved and was supposed to give him the one he deserved.
That wasn’t Cassius’ way though, he was furious, couldn’t believe what she’d done when he found out. She tried to tell them this was what they were supposed to be. They could be gods, should be gods. They could have the world.
All she wanted was the love she’d had before, but she was more powerful now. She was all powerful, immortal, she wasn’t a queen. She could be a goddess, she was a goddess.
But she could only have one and he could never forgive her for killing an innocent.
Once she was on her own, she continued what she wanted. She would make her children, her worshipers, the ones who were never supposed to leave her. She was their mother and creator. If they liked it or not they were tied to her and tied to her forever.
She’s turned many people into her children, into people who would love her and worship her. Some of them left her, they did sometimes leave her but she knows they will come back to her. They will if they like it or not. If they don’t she’ll just make more. She always will.
Devani is just now in New York City after hearing that some of her ‘children’ are there and that Cassius is there.
connections;
“children”/people she’s sired; this can be soooo many people. She changes as many people as she can. They can be happy and know her or have left or have been left. She’d loved to have sired anyone. They can be happy with her or hate her.
people she wants to sire; humans she’s taken special interests in or even people who could be possible hybrids.
exes; she’s not really seriously into anyone as she’s convinced Cassius is her true love but she’s been alive for a long long time so she would have been with more people.
enemies; i’m 100% sure there are people who HATE her and I would love to have that around.
i’d love friends, other things like that. anything she’s been alive for over 2,000 years so i’m sure she’s made friends or enemies or anything all over the world.
