Summary: After a night on the town, Diavolo and Mammon find themselves at their regular 2am haunt; AkuDonalds. It’s going so well, until Mammon lets something slip that he never meant to say aloud…

Sat in AkuDonalds, with the fake moustache and Mammon’s glasses on, Diavolo laughs. So childlike and wholeheartedly at something Mammon says. What it was didn’t matter. And in that moment Mammon just laughs with him, an “I love you,” slipping so freely from his lips. Diavolo stares. Then it hits him. What he just said. Mammon freezes.
He fucked up. He knew he was falling for him. But he was never supposed to say it. This person- it’s not possible to go further.
This is it, he’s the plaything with the good time. It’s comfort not… He ran. Turning on his heels and fleeing outside into the pouring rain, upset he can’t be enough. He knows he’s not enough.
Nothing sobers up a tipsy demon prince like a love confession. It takes him a good moment to process what just happened, being under the influence doing no favours. Before he could even respond, Mammon was gone.
"Go get your man!” Yell the AkuDonalds employees in unison, too invested in this affair to let it die because the prince’s brain got stuck on the loading screen.
Diavolo gives chase, calling out after Mammon as he runs through the streets, not caring who sees. Because his silence came from surprise. Surprise that one more precious than any treasure he ever owned returns his feelings. That Mammon loved him, as Diavolo loved him in return.
A look of desperation in his eyes, Mammon’s glasses sliding down his nose, standing beneath the pale glow of the street lights. Yelling his name. Time itself freezes, Diavolo’s voice echoing as the sound of rain stops.
Mammon didn’t even notice at first, clutching his chest. He’s stuck in his head. He’s messed up big time. He always screws up, but this the worst. It isn’t until Diavolo catches up that Mammon notices the rain halted. The few demons out standing perfectly still. A Devildom stray cat in an alley, paused while pursuing its prey.
Despite having all the time in the world, he can’t find the time to slow down his heart? And he just stares in wonderment, anticipation… fear? Hopeless love? Rain or tears on his face as he just stares at Diavolo, unsure of what to say or do. He wasn’t suppose to reveal his hand.
Footfalls pounding across the cobblestone. Heart thumping in his ears. Fake moustache lost in the wind. Now or never. To reach out as he never had before. To catch hold of his wrist as they come to a stop. His hand slips down, fingers interlacing. A silent request. Please stay. Their eyes meet, his own soft; gentle. Cradling those so uncertain.
A smile. Bright and vivid and warm. If the Devildom had a sun, there it stood. In front of Diavolo. “I love you too, Mammon.”
