     the girl spoke rather weirdly, calling him the wizard.  he was almost doubtful for a second that he was the phantom wizard instead of the phantom thieves by the certainty she held herself to  (the thought earned him an amused, albeit slightly questionable, chuckle).    ❛    full name, occupation, your relations... any kind of relevant info you can provide.    ❜    his hand was briefly tucked into his pocket where his phone was, just a tentative move of the body to reach for the mysterious app.  she didn’t have to know everything he planned to do ...    ❛    and one more thing.  is there a reason why you keep calling me a wizard ?  just ... a humor question.    ❜

     well ... he couldn’t blame hiyori.  makoto wasn’t exactly subtle in the art of spying.  though the leap of logic was a bit too farfetched, akira decided that the girl could be trustworthy, or at least for the time being.    ❛    i see.    ❜    the unusually sharp glance from the otherwise subtle student swept carefully over the other as he dwelled in thought.  something about her desperation ... that made it hard for him to turn away from helping her.    ❛    we’ll take your case as long as you understand the risks, and of course ... keep our identities a secret.  with that agreed, we can have a deal.    ❜

        “ it really is you then … she’s not wrong … ” to jump from pleading with him, behaving as if on the brink of insanity, to chilling realization must’ve been an odd thing to follow. how to explain … how to explain … eyes drift to the lower left corner of her vision, unable able to properly face the one she’d been looking for despite her initial earnestness. “ i’m an ice skater and, at a recent event, someone tried to sabotage me. the wicked witch … she wants me dead and gone. broken. ” so does kiyoko, that sweet girl. she’d switched their skates. she also had to be in on it. curse her, curse her, curse her … ! she’s not so pure. “ all to put that … that … weak girl on top … ”

     sweat trickled down the side of his face as hiyori went on and on, his mind making its paces through emotions.  her rambles, albeit nothing short of an insane person’s, made enough sense for him to decipher useful information from ... except the only thing he could zero in on was how the prospect of the thieves’ identity being known by somebody else.  a risk he had to ascertain, first.    ❛    if i may interrupt,    ❜    akira almost winced when he had to cut off her rambling,   ❛    who was it that guided you to see me ?   do you have a name ?    ❜

        “ please. i need your help. ” there’s a witch. a witch, a witch. she’s knows he’s one of them; hiyori has watched makoto trail him since may — and then, suddenly, that artist had confessed to his crimes and, according to makoto, that artist’s pupil was now in their group of friends. along with a track star crippled by kamoshida’s hand and a girl that had once been thought to be his lover. victims, they all were. “ i know it’s you. please. the witch — ” the words that fall from her lips don’t fit her blank expression, the supposed emotion doesn’t fit her face. “ the witch is coming for me … she’s coming for me. she’s going to kill me. ” 

        she’s already tried.

     at first, he’d deigned to ignore hiyori;  what favor was it going to be this time ?  after all, his classmates often found him too scary to talk to, but rarely too scary to ask for help with, whether classwork or duty.  that was, at least, until he heard the tone of her voice.    ❛    ...    ❜    his perceptive gaze swept over the blue-haired girl, although not to look at her just yet but to survey their surroundings.  quiet corridor.  nobody watching, and there wasn’t any recorders around as far as his eye can tell.  the expression on her, however odd it looked, seemed sincere enough ... he’d just hope he wasn’t wrong.     ❛    alright,    ❜    his answer sounded almost defeated,     ❛    let’s hear your story first.    ❜

     his question got her to open her mouth, but there wasn’t an answer.  thinking back, selene may not have even considered what was going to happen without the aid of ardbert and then some.  with all said and done, there wasn’t anything other threats to consider ... but fray wasn’t going to let the matter die out like that.  not that anybody with some self respect would have, anyhow.  saying that she knew it’d turn out well would be a lie.

❛    nothing.    ❜     she admitted frankly.  the girl leaned back languidly on the chair, casual glance scanning over her journal without nary a bother on her mind.  after all, as a summoned being from the source, she held little attachment to the first and the people in it, however goodhearted they may be.     ❛    it’s just a job, fray.  sometimes you just have to get it done.    ❜

He leans against the wall there for a moment, the dark knight’s gold eyes staring at Selene as she sat at the desk in the Crystarium Pendants. Pen scratching against the paper as she writes down her adventures —- he almost sneers at this. Almost. Instead he pushes himself off the wall opposite of her and moves to grab her attention for it had been a long time since he drew his presence with her and after all they had been through again he felt it only fitting that he could ask once more. ( Though the answer he knew would be the same — ever the good one, never the fully selfish one . )

     silence hung in the air, albeit selene made no movement to seemingly acknowledge fray’s presence at first other than the tentative glance of the eye every once in a while, as is the shadow’s nature.  he shifts and moves.  she hears and understands.  somewhere in the corner of the room, light shone across the edge of weathered shadowbringer   ---   the trusty blade, synonymous to the dark knight, had been testimony to many, many of her adventures.  equally so to the blood that her and hers had shed.

Three trains then a long walk had the volley ball team at Shujin academy’s gates, then warming up in their gym while waiting for the local team to arrive. It had been a long time since Minako had some normalcy in her life, even though to everyone else an away game with a rival school was something nerve-wracking and exciting. 

They were early, far earlier then they had expected, and while most of her teammates had chosen to explore their new surroundings or check out the school store, the redhead plopped herself on the bleachers, knees pulled up to her chest and head resting on them. Crimson eyes fluttered closed as she listened to the local students finish warm ups and practice. Funny how so much background noise could be so pleasant to ears that were used to the pained groans of Shadow creatures deep into the night. 

Opening one eye, Minako flipped through songs on her MP3 player, wanting a song to match the cadence of her heartbeat. A flash of blonde from across the gymnasium drew her gaze, and the Fool blinked in surprise as she watched a slender girl stretch and practically fold herself in half, more grace in her pinky finger then Minako had in her entire body. 

“That…looks like it hurts.” 

She spoke aloud without thinking, and started when she realized the blonde turned towards her voice. A blush stained her cheeks and Minako laughed awkwardly, ducking her head in apology. There was something about her…besides the fact that she could contort in ways no human should be able to. 

Something very, very familiar. The image of a butterfly flashed in her mind for half a second. 

“Sorry, I didn’t know you could hear me. Do you go to this school?”

     though it was no rare occurrence for hikari to do her warm-ups in the school gym so early in the morning, she didn’t often get visitors.  not that these people were any normal student visitor   ---   she’d heard from around that there were supposed to be other students from some other school coming for the day.  even then ... maybe she didn’t account to them coming so soon.  even less that one of them took interest in her practice.

her lips quirked gently with the redhead’s remark.  part of the job as a professional human pretzel was to either wow people or scare the daylights out of them.  hikari enjoyed watching both, maybe even more so this time if only because minako was a visiting student.

lavenza’s voice echoed in her head.  she decided to pay no heed to it.

❛    it’s alright,    ❜    the blonde moved to sit up straight from her stretch before reaching for the towel nearby to wipe the sweat from her face, tone mixed with surprise and amusement.  her eyes scanned the other from head to toe;  different uniform ... must be one of those rivals.    ❛    yes, i’m a student in the school.  did you come here for the match ?    ❜    amusing.  maybe she’d make a new friend today.
