He had been ready to speak with the captain he had left behind to see what has been happening and what he had to exactly do. Ben knew he was charged to train the new soldiers and clearly, things seemed to have gotten a bit lax. The soldier did like that it was at least tolerable, but they did need more discipline than what they had now.
Of course the queen’s words surprised him. He didn’t expect her to change her mind so quickly. To be honest, he thought he would get that answer later in the noon. Even though the timing was odd, he still was at least relieved that the woman he had first met in that haunted fortress was still there.
“Oh?” he smirked. “Be careful, my Queen. People may think we are going to elope with such words.”
As to leave his joke in the air, he laughed and walked back towards the barracks of the castle grounds.
She pursed her lips as she watched him walk away. Would that really be so bad? She had to wonder.
Well, it seemed she had a bit of work to do before she was to go anywhere. Of course, it did not take her long to make her plans, but it took far longer to convince Hobson that the world would not end in her absence. Packing was not necessary; everything she could possibly need could be found in the Sanctuary, and aside from a bedroll and an extra blanket, she didn’t really need to bring anything along. She had no idea how long they would be gone for, but she made plans for a couple of months, just in case.
By the next morning, she was ready and waiting, trying her best not to look too excited. Finally, an escape from the boredom and stress that had become her life! She’d have to shower Ben with thanks later.
She had to chew on her lip to keep from smiling too broadly when she saw him, and she gave a little wave. “Morning.”
The soldier was already packed and ready to go, though he knew that on the way out of town he would have to repurchase a few essentials that got lost during his adventure. At least he snagged an extra bedding for himself.
Ben looked up to the Queen, hearing her greeting and also glancing at her clothes. Smiling, he replied, “Good to see you in a more proper attire, my Lady... I should probably stop calling you that once we are on the road. Want to avoid all that celebrity nonsense, right?”
