this is a blog dedicated to uploading new magic the gathering decks as i build them and explaining what they are trying to accomplish and how they win the game/why i made them!!

this is also the sideblog of @devilcat3d and will be kept mostly as a blog dedicated to mtg decks i build/maybe some discussion of new cards or sets or other mtg related news i find interesting!!

i currently have around 70 decks built on archidekt and i make more every week so there is already many decks for me to talk about and ill try to get through the more interesting ones first :3 i also am mainly a commander player and rarely make 60 card decks, but it happens occasionally. keep in mind that i dont finish every deck i start so there may be a few decks here and there that need finishing and thats just how it is. if you ever really want me to finish something let me know!!

i will do my best to explain every deck to the best of my abilities but if you have any questions at all feel free to ask them here or dm me and i can help you figure it out :3

im also down to take requests for making specific decks but cant promise itll happen in a reasonable time/happen at all. but still dont hesitate to ask!!

historic is basically the coolest typal batch that wotc couldve put in the game as far as I'm concerned I love that shit. i want them to print cards that care about it (in mono white preferably) for the rest of time. the only other thing that could top historic for me is maybe some batch involving demons tbh lol

do you have a favorite among the secrets of strixhaven precons ? either as full decks or just the new face/alt commanders

i haven't seen the entire decklists for all of them yet but I've seen they are really good overall and I might pick a couple up! that being said I definitely have favorites among the precon commanders :D

my favorite commanders from the precons are probably gorma from witherbloom, muddle from the prismari one, and scriv/killian from the silverquill ones are super cool but idk if I'll end up building them.

im building gorma right now and it honestly seems pretty crazy if you can set it up. i found a fun little combo for it that im excited to play with and I love +1/+1 counter decks as well as aristocrat decks so it's right up my alley. i also love making big creatures and that seems very easy with gorma! oh and I love the art pest frog with big gaping maw is so swag

i think muddle will be an extremely fun and possibly very good commander but I'm a little worried that it will just devolve into extra combat steps too often to be fun for me as I don't really like looping combat infinitely. i love the playstyle of the card a ton tho and its art is sick and I love copying my creatures plus I don't play enough spellslinger decks. plus myriad is soooooo much value with etb triggers and maybe that's just the most fun way to build it for me personally lol

i wish i liked the silverquill precon more since I adore the color pair and I love goad/forced combat a ton but enchantments aren't really my thing these days. my wife plays a ton of master of keys so we have a very good enchantment deck at our table already and I am much more of an artifact girly these days but! i adore the repeatability of killians goad ability and that he draws cards when you force attacks. scriv is so sick too I love the flavor of contract tokens and also buffing your opponents stuff when they swing where you want them too is very fun. also titan triggers are my favorite thing on commanders so I might build it someday since I like its vibes a lot. i really really really wish it was a demon making the contracts like a daemogoth or something since that would make it one of my favorite decks flavorfully to play but that's a nitpick cause birds and inklings are awesome too.

as for the other two I like them still but probably wont build them. i do love graveyard leaves effects a lot and x spells are a fun archetype but their color pairs aren't my favorite and i feel like I can get their archetypes from other commanders and ill probably have more fun. quintorius probably needs black for me to be interested and zimone is cool since she cheapens x spells so much but I already have magnus the red for that and I get all the red x spells too so that's my preferred rn

overall this set is my favorite this year so far, probably will stay that way, and I think it beats out most sets for me from the last couple years too! im excited to attend prerelease in my new lgs (also a bit scared since I haven't played with strangers at a store for like 4 years) and I think I want to pick up a box with my wife since I want to collect the set and the mystical archives :D

well these cards won me the game today and wow they definitely have earned a spot in gandalf polyamory ^_^ im surprised people don't play the ring in more decks. I'm really happy with this new list I made and im excited to own it in paper soon <3

some more new additions to gandalf that I really liked how they played today

this card feels like really good removal when it's flash speed and getting its trigger doubled up. i also have a cloud midgar mercenary equipment package in the deck now and this feels great to pull with him :D it also gives you a flying blocker or attacker when you equip it!

also haliya gained me like 50 life in total this game including like 20 from sally pride it was ridiculous value for a turn 3 play. it felt like I was only alive so long because of her. what an amazing card in a panharmonicon deck ^_^

i wish the new black panther mtg card they spoiled a couple weeks ago for the marvel commander decks was bant. i would kill to build bant artifacts but sadly he's selesnya which means I don't get to play my favorite brothers war uncommon in battery bearer 😔 but I am excited for more powerstones for sure and indestructible is a good upside for them! although I would love them to be upgraded in a way that makes them more playable cause I don't see them getting blown up much beyond like a vandalbalst or austere command lol (although them being marvel flavored is also not my favorite but ah well I'll still play them)

this little common two drop is my favorite aetherdrift card. it just pops off so hard with infinite mana since you can put every permanent card in your deck into your hand. and if its played alongside something like redshift, rocketeer chief can dump every permanent in your deck onto the battlefield at once!! and if you do that you're probably winning the game lol. but it even can just cast most of your deck with infinite mana also. its just so versatile and is only a two drop!! let's hear it for aetherdrift commons 👏

hey friends I just built a new deck!! its xu-ifit, osteoharmonist!! this is a mono black commander that cares about reanimation, and can specifically bring back large creatures and make them have no abilities and turn them into skeletons by tapping!! this notably brings back the card and doesn't make it a token so you can take full advantage of cards that care about mana value and if it dies you can just bring it back again since xu-ifit does not give finality counters!! this deck also can feign death a dying skeleton or blink them with conjurer's closet to get their abilities back with very little effort. it also likes self mill and other forms of reanimation to give you a constant stream of big threats hitting and leaving the yard. I personally went a little lighter on the big threats in favor of more fun cards but even reanimating a 5 or 6 power creature for free every turn is pretty good in the grand scheme of things. but if you find yourself wanting bigger threats than that is a very easy thing to change!! another fun thing you get to play is all the fun cards that care about skeletons like corpses of the lost and gisa, hell raiser as well as death baron!!

the worst part about this deck to me is the fact that xu-ifit isn't a golgari legend, which makes us miss out on playing some fun skeleton payoffs like skeletal swarming (which is also one of my favorite cards of all time) and also green has some of the biggest creatures like yargle and multani and cares about creatures with no abilities most often out of the color pie. this saddens me because this could've been one of the coolest golgari legends ever but I love mono black so I still very much adore this deck

i just built a new polyamory deck for commander this time in esper with a new final fantasy commander and i think it turned out pretty cool!! its bracket 3 with some interesting combos that take advantage of wedding ring and noctis separately so it has lots of options to win a game!! i don't normally play aetherflux but its practically built for this commander lol. take a look!!

i just built a version of ms. bumbleflower that according to archidekts tcgplayer prices is only $25!! this is the cheapest deck i have ever built. im not sure if im finished with this deck yet or not and i might change it still but anyway i consider her to be a bit too strong when built normally so i thought a cheaper version might be more balanced and im excited to try it out!! here's the deck if you want to take a look!! <3

bad mtg combo i just came up with using a new final fantasy card:

must have wheel of sun and moon on the battlefield enchanting you.

must have sunforger on the battlefield equipped to cloud, ex-soldier.

must have birgi, god of storytelling and storm-kiln artist on the battlefield.

must have ephemerate or another 4 or less cost red or white blink spell in the deck.

must have two mana (one red one white) available to spend to start the combo.

step 1. enchant yourself with wheel of sun and moon which causes all cards that go to your graveyard to go on the bottom of your library

2. play cloud, ex-soldier and attach sunforger to him with his etb

3. pay two mana to unequip sunforger from cloud, tutoring ephemerate and casting it for free

4. birgi and storm-kiln artist trigger on cast, making one red mana and a treasure token allowing you to pay for sunforgers un-equip cost again

5. ephemerate resolves, blinking cloud and having him re-enter the battlefield, causing cloud to re-equip sunforger to him with his etb

6. ephemerate gets placed on the bottom of your library because of wheel of sun and moon.

7. repeat from step 3 for infinite cast triggers and infinite storm count :D

my girlfriend just pointed out that if you have an impact tremors effect on the battlefield since this combo makes cloud re-enter the battlefield infinitely you can just burn out the whole table which is fun!! theres also cute blink spells you can get instead of ephemerate like scrollshift to draw your whole deck or slip on the ring for infinite ring tempts you :0

im addicted to building artifact decks lately its all i can think about. i love playing with artifacts with etb effects and doubling them with panharmonicon type cards and i cant help but throw that type of package in every deck i build nowadays. anyway here's my take on tetzin, gnome champion over on my archidekt page if you wanna take a look. i dunno if im done tinkering with it but its in a good state rn!! :D

guess who just uploaded her first full length youtube video today?? thats right i did!! on my youtube channel devilcat3d i uploaded a video all about my favorite magic the gathering deck ive ever built and how it works!! the video is all about gandalf the white polyamory, which is a deck i have been crafting versions of since i got into commander a few years ago. the goal of this deck is simple, its to marry the whole table in a polycule and show your opponents the meaning of love >:3c

i love caves in magic the gathering. its by far and away my favorite nonbasic land type in the game and i try to play at least 3 in every deck that can fit them all because of this guy. worlds coolest dude voted 9 years in a row, scampering surveyor!! i love this fucking card so much its just cooler solemn imo
