"That one!"

The girl happily points in the shelf full of various brands of catnip, the one with the cute cat picture that stood out to her the most was the right brand. 

"Mii.. but the bigger cat won’t like this stuff very much… he should keep going down the aisle! He’ll like that much more!" 

Go figure, they had catnip for tiger-sized-cats in this store. But it was pretty obvious this was for himself.

A child? And female at that. Adorable and... Quite small standing next to he large cat.

"That one, huh?"

Bardo's striped tail flicked to the side and he picked up the recommended brand. The cats humans knew were so charming. Bringing the little pouch to his nose he sniffed before nodding. It was different than what they had at home.. Not that he normally took part in such things.. Really, it was more amusing to see other cats react to it. Still. It did remind him of home in some sense. 

"Perfect. I'll take this one then. Thank you.." 

His ears perked up a little and twitched in the direction where the big cat brands were located. His curiosity was peaked as he had seen photos of the larger cats humans knew that resembled the cats of Setsura... They had this stuff for cats like that as well? Packaged and ready... Humans were strange.

But the ribikan ended up chuckling softly as he shook his head.

"I'm sure this will do just fine. The cat it's for is a smaller cat. That would be too much."

Grocery stores.. They were amazing. 

Rather than streets filled with various shops, everything he could need was all in one place.. Certain scents distracted him while he was there, however. The pet section of this particular store had the ribika stalking it's aisle. Cat nip...? That's what it said. An attendant clarified with him but he declined any further assistance as he went through different brands. 

Humans gave this to their pets? 

The cats humans cared for were spoiled, weren't they?

"Tell me."

"Which would you suggest for a smaller cat.. Hm?" 

Talking to a stranger now, the ribikan's tail swayed to the side as he regarded them with an almost mischievous expression. Apparently he was amused by his discovery.. The basket he carried even had some of the sillier cat toys in it.

Having absolutely and undeniably no idea what in Ribika’s good name was going on was, suffice to say, jarring.

He tried not to panic really but with the way his cat ears kept twitching at even the slightest sound, it was hard to relax. Konoe wasn’t prone to just sitting around and letting things be decided for him however — he acted and he acted fast. The closest to him was Bardo in terms of distance and he’d made a mental note to get to Asato somehow, someway, but for now, he hurried to where Bardo was.

Luckily for him, he was able to keep himself hidden for the most part and slip through nooks and crannies if need be. Not so luckily and something he denied vehemently was his sense of direction. Cats should have good directions so why did he kept going in circles?! Hadn’t he already seen that wall too? — Shaking his head, he was losing it and growing frustrated wouldn’t help him. Konoe frowned and huffed and puffed and went around one more time until he finally came into contact with the larger ribikan.

"Bardo! Have you been here the whole time..? "

"Never mind that - come on, we should hurry and move!"

Exhaling and sounding snappy was hardly his intention but he couldn’t really control being riled up like this. As much as Konoe tried to suppress that empathy that connected to others all around him, all the widespread panic and fear made him sluggish, made him just as panicked and fearful if not more. But he had to put on a strong face, he wouldn’t let this curse or whatever it was, beat him down. Forgetting his laments, the smaller cat tugged on Bardo’s arm as if to urge him along, eyes already in clear slits from the dominant predatory instinct.  

"You haven’t..run into any of those things yet, have you?"

Again, it was a situation where he'd probably spotted Konoe from afar a number of times. Though, each time he made his way to the spot he saw the other cat... He'd already run off. Now, he was sure that his sense of direction wasn't off.. The older cat even had the other's scent but he kept moving. At this time, Bardo did decide to just wait around.. As dangerous as it might have been to stay where he was, the old cat was rather confident in his own ability.

Bad arm or not. 

Sooner than he expected, Konoe came around another corner. Bardo's tail which had been twitching due to worry, stopped before it started swaying in a gentler manner. "Ahh.. Konoe. Did you get lost?" He offered Konoe a teasing grin, a short purr following his words in response to Konoe's urgency. 

"Hey, hey.. What's the rush? We don't know where we're going, right?" 

It was despite his tone that his ears twitched in response to the sounds around them as well. Once or twice, he did peek over his shoulder.. Yet, he still shrugged and patted the sword at his side. 

"One or two.. But worry more for yourself. I'll be fine. Let's stick together now just in case." 

Moving over to pull the younger closer to himself, Bardo started to guide him along first. "Ahh.. I heard a term before. You can be the.... Princess? I'll protect you like a Knight.. Or Prince Charming? I'm not sure.." With impeccable timing, a Pariah emerged from one of the alleyways. Raising his blade and releasing Konoe for the moment, he struck the strange creature swiftly... Not as well as he may have in his youth but still impressive. Of course, the Pariahs didn't go down too easily so he ended up reaching first to grab Konoe again in order to drag him along as he rushed away from the scene.

"What do you think, hm?"

Hello, community! It’s been about four or five months since we last made a post of this nature, and as such, many of the blogs that have liked our previous masterlist post may have gone inactive or simply dropped without unliking it! I think this is the third post of this type that we’ll be making, but if you’d like to find the older ones, you should be able to dig them out by looking through our modnote tag! For simplicity’s sake, we’ll be copying over the main message of this post from previous entries.

The teenage boy stares in amazement at this, clearly unable to believe the sight.

"Amazing…"

A realization suddenly hits him.

"You’re not an alien too are you?!"

As amazing cats said Two Cane were.. This one responded differently than most humans in Hive City. Not like some amazing being. An alien? How cruel. Ah, but he wasn't offended.. Life was too short for that.

"Alien.. No. Ribika. Or cat, if you prefer."

A chuckle emitted from the old cat and he leaned a little closer to the other. 

"You can touch them if you want.. My ears. Humans seem to enjoy doing that if only to make sure they're real. From the sound of things you've met something strange here, huh?"

Aside from himself, of course.

Opinions seemed to differ between this Touga and this Sanga.

Konoe’s head tilted to the side and his crooked tail swayed slowly from one side to the other. There was something to be said but he couldn’t quite figure out how to say it. Well, he wasn’t going to beat around the bush either so maybe being a little blunt every now and again was suitable.

Bardo was the type of cat to not be bothered by things like that, anyway.

"It’s too quiet, don’t you think? It makes me feel unsettled, like something bad is going to happen."

Bardo really wasn't the type of cat to be bothered by such things. Not openly anyway. So when Konoe came to him with his worries, Bardo's expression seemed rather bored. Though, he did put some thought into his answer.. He didn't want to annoy the other intentionally. After all, he did try to keep Konoe in mind recently... What with the big city and...

As he'd stated before, they didn't belong in a world like this.

"Konoe... If something bad happens then it happens."

A yawn and he just shrugged his shoulders a bit, his tail continuing it's swaying motion after a moment. 

"Even so, try to make the best out of any situation.. You won't have any fun if you don't think positively." 

Well, he tried to be more serious.

His ears twitched in response to the question and he turned his attention to the human boy. A nod and Bardo offered a teasing grin before deciding to reply.

"Yes. And the ears are real as well."

A striped tail moved side to side as he contemplated the idea that the city was actually a little calm for once.

"It's nice."

cataclysmic ⊱ HOMECOMING EVENT II

When Konoe woke up — he felt strange.

It’s as if there was something he was forgetting to do when he got out of bed that morning but he couldn’t quite place what that something was. He tried not to think about it too much as he curiously looked around his own room, why did it feel like something important had just happened the day before? Maybe he was imagining things — there were just undoubtedly strange feelings welling up in his chest. It’s what drove him to the living room next, then out of the apartment completely and onto the streets. He hadn’t made it far from the complex when he ran into another cat. 

“Hey, do I know you? It’s like your name is on the tip of my tongue." 

While they had the same ears and a tail, he wondered why he didn’t exactly remember who this was. They just seemed like they had met before, in another life maybe.

Curiously, the Touga had felt that his day woke to a dreary start. Confused initially, but felt that all was normal once he accustomed himself to his room. Eye glancing around to the corners of his meek little shack, making sure that no one had touched anything within it. After an hour or so of inter conflict on what exactly he did in this place and why he felt slightly off being here. Rai felt no reason to stay in the hut any longer, and began to wander off into the streets of Citta. 

Soon enough, to his surprise. A particular figure caught his eyes and his sense’s being a ribikia cat had allowed him to catch the scent of something familiar. A name popped to his head, yet he hadn’t a clue why. Perhaps he’d come across the lad during his bounty hunts, not that he’d introduce himself let alone become accustomed to interaction with anyone. “Eh.”

Low tone from deep in his throat as he gave the other a cocky look, “Rai. You are…”

A quick pause, unchanged expression, “Konoe." His tail swiftly flickered over to the side and he found himself leaning against a wall. Deep in his chest something urged him to stay in this moment otherwise he’d felt as if something form his life would be missing .Whether it was a memory, or a key part to his life. It bothered him, and he kept quite with no interest other than to observe the other as he spoke. Maybe this was a joke.

The cold air felt new to his tanned skin as he walked slowly, much more slowly than he ever had before. His mind felt as though it were at a low hum, feeling rather calm. Although there was nothing to be upset about, at least, nothing that he could remember…the fact that he could not recall anything was alarming. Something big was missing when he had awoken. When he tried to recall his home, Sisa, the mark on his arm was only a vague insignia of a muddled world. Someone had taught him how to draw that mark on with ink, but he couldn`t recall who. All of those from Kira were gone from his mind. The scent of others had drawn him towards an already forming crowd of a white cat, and a tabby cat. While his mind had forgotten some things, his senses could never forgot something so prevalent. But names did not present themselves right away. He recognized that he had been with the smaller one in the city duing the winter celebration, and the white one… oh. They had gotten into a fight, hadn`t they? Not exacly a cheerful memory for the latter, but he couldn`t feel out why he felt uneasy around the taller Ribika. When he spoke, that name rang in his ears once, twice, like a familiar melody that escaped naming.

“Konoe…” Asato muttered to himself, loud enough to be heard most likely. Of course, being lost in thought, he didn`t realize when their attention had been directed to him.

When he awoke, Bardo felt admittedly.. Lost. Ah, but he wasn't the type to let that bother for him for two long. That, of he just wouldn't let anyone see how much it actually affected him. Either way, he had work to do. The older cat had been awake since before the sun had come up, tending to the building he'd chosen to open his Inn.. Though even then it was strange.. While he was sure that he never opened an Inn before, not in this city. Doing the work seemed oddly... 

Familiar. 

Ah. He couldn't let himself get distracted by silly things.. So he'd left the building for some time. 

"Whoa, whoa..!" 

A mind full of trouble and arms full of supplies lead to almost bumping into a certain black cat first. An apologetic glance was offered followed by one with mild curiosity. As if he recognized this one.. Ah. Asato, wasn't it? But another cat caught his eye soon after.

"Ah. You.." 

His tail swayed from side to side, pleasantly surprised by these familiar cats. Even if he wasn't too sure of their names at this point, well he did recall Rai before the others, Bardo approached the tabby and the white cat with confidence. One of the bags he carried was handed off to Konoe as well as a box before he rubbed his forehead with a soft sigh of relief. 

"Thought I'd be doing this on my own. Now, while I'm used to that.. I'd appreciate the help,  yeah? Let's get moving."

there were goodbyes to be said, but she held that back for now. today was supposed to be special, and hell, she even did something crazy girly and made damn chocolate. she was gonna give that shit out. with an incredibly saturated blush on her cheeks, she forcefully inserted a small bag full of cream filled chocolates into the ribika's hands. " happy valentine's day, fake tousan... they might not taste okay. i tried though, i really did. "

Another surprise! 

Bardo accepted the small bag, staring down at it curiously before he opened it with care. Bringing the now opened bag of treats up, he sniffed at it's contents before nodding approvingly before reaching to give the girl's hair a quick ruffle. 

"Thank you, Ryuuko. They smell delicious. I'll be sure to enjoy them."

Perhaps Asato and Rai were more alike than they wanted to admit. Both had confessed what they felt in their heart, although one was a little better at showing his concern. ”It`s not about choice…” Asato knew very well he had one, that Konoe was presenting him with one. But he wondered why Konoe was worried for him the first place. No one had ever expressed such a worry for him before, and handling that feeling in his hands was baffling, and he had to think quietly for a beat. He looked sidelong at Rai who, as always, announced things in a brash and stubborn way. ”He won`t die.” The black cat would always make sure of that.

“I want to stay by Konoe`s side. I want to keep him safe…from Leaks.” Asato never wanted Konoe to fight alone: that`s why Sanga and Touga were bonded. It wouldn`t be possible for Konoe to fight by himself. He was concerned initially that the tabby wanted the Kiran cat to stay for other reasons…but because he had concerns for him, for his well being, that was why he wanted him to stay? Asato wanted to reach out to him, but he hesitated, and only shrunk within himself. His claws had the urge to scratch at bark until he felt more sane. His ears were on high alert, however, feeling enough malice radiating from the white cat. ”I`m sorry for being a burden.”

“You think of me as a burden? How annoying.” Rai gathered as much from Konoe’s blindsided care for him and Asato. It annoyed him to no end, and the ends of his hair stuck up for a brief moment with the statement that rolled out of his tongue. Was he truly this fickle to think so lowly of him that he’d need the concerns of someone else? He’d live his life independent and it has gotten him this far. Alive and quite well. Possibly even being the strongest of the Touga’s here, “I told you once I will go with you. Don’t make me repeat again, stop acting like a lowly kit. None of us need your concern, we are all grown men here and can make our own decision. If thats why we are here then, lets end this and get on with our evening before the key’s come.”

Void or not, this was just as bad as the word ridden with sickness. They knew nothing of it, they didn’t belong in it, to say the least they might as well return to a place they knew well of. Their ‘home’. In Rai’s eyes it was better to be there then here, after all this whole scientist bit could be a lie in itself, and he hated someone else having power over him.

Now Konoe was starting to get annoyed. Never had he been so terribly misread before now by two Touga he thought knew him at least a modicum better than they were painting him to be. His fur began to bristle and his ears twitched when all was said and done. He bit back any retorts he wanted to shoot out, taking a deep inhale of breath and suppressing any negative emotions he may have been feeling. That were his own at least. 

“Then we’ll all go back together when the keys come.”

“I don’t think any of you are a burden, if anything I —”

Wasn’t the one that was cursed, that brought misfortune, that was being chased and tested by devils and a great magician — wasn’t he the burden? Never mind, he thought, he didn’t want to get into this and feel sorry for himself. Konoe calmed down for the most part, thanking Bardo for his support before he pressed a hand to his chest and pushed himself off. He stumbled for a second before he caught himself and stood straight with one thing left to say in mind.

“I never thought of any of you as a burden, not Asato, not Rai, not Bardo. Don’t misunderstand me. Whether you guys realize it or not, Touga or Sanga or not, you’ve all helped me and pushed me forward more than I could on my own. I’m grateful for that and no matter what happens on the 15th, I don’t want any of you thinking I don’t care about you or think that I’d be better off without you.”

Damn kittens.

Bardo could only sigh heavily in response to.. Well. Everything. He'd been ready to speak up once more but to begin with he wasn't too sure what else to say regarding this matter. The older cat wasn't so involved, after all. Not really. At some point, his ears had flattened just a bit... Because he was disappointed, probably. But it wasn't something he'd voice at this point. Not while Konoe pushed away from him to speak for himself. 

His ears pressed forward in response, curious as Konoe spoke.. His gaze moved from Rai to Asato.. Then back to Konoe before he just shrugged his shoulders with a short laugh. 

"That's it then, isn't it? We'll all go back. You three can even stay at my inn for a couple nights free of charge!"

Was he just saying that because he figured they'd forget such a promise? It's a mystery... Reaching over to tug at the back of Konoe's shirt to make sure he didn't suddenly fall over, or just to poke fun at him for his previous stumble.. Maybe a little bit of both. Either way, Bardo grinned sheepishly. 

"We don't really belong in a Two Cane's world do we now?"
