"His behavior is making your parents a bit worried. And me. How is he acting with you usually?” Oliver asked and followed her to the kitchen, looking around "That .. architecture is really nice."
'His behavior? He acts like his usual self around me. I'm afraid I'm not very sure what you mean?' She smiled, putting the kettle onto the stove, 'Thank you. My family's home is very lovely, we're lucky to have it. My parents have worries about Ruben, yes, but he's never done anything towards myself that I would say is alarming.' Though, she wouldn't mention the animals. It isn't the Doctor's business to know that----and she's sure Ruben is doing fine. 'My younger brother is very good to me.'
“Of course, Miss Victoriano. And there was no trouble at all. What happened that you couldn’t tell me on the phone?”
'It's in regards to my younger brother, I'm afraid. Would you care to sit down...? I could get you something to drink, if you'd like.'

A sensation, twice now felt, was brewing wildly within his body.
An alien infestation of intermingled fears.
The first time it occurred was when his sister announced her decision to move out and start a life of her own. Into the city. Far away from her family. From him. An unknown beast sucking at his growing fear manifested the minute she walked out that door with all of her belongings, leaving an empty shell for a room. An empty shell that was now his soul.
Though her visits had been numerous during the week and he suspected, out of concern for his mental state, her presence began to wane. The walls once imbued with her were beginning to fall victims to the corrosive touch of her absence until Ruben got used to the solitude.
To the point of complete isolation.
He had been expecting her visit — he sensed her guilt gnawing at her from afar. And he did not want her to feel guilty because of him. He did not want her to view him as a problematic piece of her life — he was perfectly happy and thrived in the late hours of the night.
“No, don’t worry about it. I was done with it anyway.”
A swift turn and a pretentiously powerful embrace followed, absorbing all the tormenting thoughts storming within his mind. He had grown taller and stronger than her, so with a lilt to his step, he used the innocence in this moment to fling her playfully away from his working station. Laura knew of his experiments on animals and deeply disapproved… but things had changed for quite some time.
He no longer worked with animals, but human beings.
“Let’s go upstairs. How have you been? What have you been up to? Tell me everything.”
A reassuring smile masked the quick glance he threw at the indiscernible carnage on his operating table before taking her hand, like they did when they were kids, and pulling her out of the basement gently.
The embrace elated her----she had missed how it felt to hug him. And it reminded her that there were so many things that she wasn't able to do with her time as she had when she lived at home. Often, girls would find themselves with on particular friend they could confide in, and yet, she found that friend in her little brother. Though, the term little no longer suited him. He was far taller and she hadn't expected him to be so strong as to lift her up off of the floor. For a moment, the worry she had in her chest was gone. Perhaps there was nothing to worry about in regards to what was happening in her absence.
She didn't question the idea of going upstairs. Everything should be fine. It was a small white lie she told herself as she climbed the stairs, lifting up her dress as she did so as to not trip on the fabric. 'Well, I did want to come see you sooner, but I'm afraid there were so many things distracting me that I really should learn to multi-task better.' The guilt was still there. She didn't see a reason for her not finding time to see him more often, especially when she did miss their talks. 'I was hoping you would have time one of these days to come meet someone, Ruben----' Ah, telling him... That was part of the reason she had pushed visiting so far away. She wasn't sure how to go about introducing Ruben to the man she was seeing.
If the man couldn't get along with Ruben----then she couldn't consider much of a future with them, could she...? 'I met someone. He's very nice and very smart, he reminds me of you in that aspect, I guess. But I wanted him to meet you so I can see if you approve of him. I also made a little garden by my window--' Laura hadn't a clue as to why she suddenly felt so nervous over telling him this. Part of her was afraid he'd feel as though she was abandoning him. '...You'll meet him, won't you? And you should tell me how you're doing as well--have you anyone? You've grown so much, I'm sure my little brother must have many girls swooning over him.'

'Thank you for coming over on such short notice, Detective. I hope the weather didn't cause you much trouble.'

Send me "You're all I've ever needed" for my muse's reaction.
"If its not a problem for you. maybe then i could speak to you about him a little? If you want of course , you aren’t obligated to talk to me.”
'What exactly would you like to speak about in regards to Ruben?' Laura made sure to close the front door before she gestured for the man to follow her to the kitchen, 'I don't mind talk to you, Doctor. Though, I don't see what I could possibly give you that will help.'
"It would be really great to talk with both of you but i came because of him. where is he hiding anyway?”
'He's out and about, I assume. He can often get engulfed in his work, you see. Mother and Father are away at the moment, but perhaps you would like some tea while you wait for him?'

'Are you here to see Ruben? I don't remember Father or Mother saying a doctor would be arriving today.'

'Little brother----? Are you down here?' Of course he was. There was no question of whether Ruben was down in the basement or not. While living at home, she knew where to find him always. Even during games of hide-and-seek. So, moving out didn't hinder those senses or her ability to seek him out with ease. Though, as of late, she had been rather busy. The visits that occurred every other day were now once a week, and she did miss how often the visits used to take place. The trouble with growing older was knowing one had to let go of past habits and welcome new ones.
It was easy to see where he was, his blonde hair and pale features still the same after all these years. And her own hair seemed to clash with his. For two opposites, they were nearly inseparable. 'There you are.' Laura smiled, her hands gripping at his shoulders playfully as she pressed a kiss to his cheek. Though, the work that she saw on the table was far from anything she had seen in the past. It seemed to be progressing faster than she had imagined it would.
'Did I interrupt your work, Ruben?' Curiosity laced her tone, though there was a hint of concern as her playful grasp of his shoulders turned more tender.
