he's stricken with a false sense of cold, knees drawn up to his chest, long fingers tangled in his hair. he hears sybelle, but his eyes stay squeezed shut, desperate for a calm spell to wrap around him. while sybelle might easily be one of the safest for him to crumble near, armand prefers the comforter role.

( he isn't embarrassed around her. but, the feeling is adjacent )

armand had felt heavy when he'd slept that morning and that tension translated only to a restless day filled with vivid dreams sculpted from the depths of his most suffocating fears. it was no surprise that sometime after waking, he'd find himself outside of his coffin, seated with his back pressed against its side.

he inhales a ragged breath, " sybelle, sweet sybelle, " he murmurs, " please, you shouldn't have to start your evening this way. "

after that finale, armand will be remaining closer to his book canon even in his amc verse when it comes to s3 events. essentially i'll be playing it close to how i've been since before the season released.

specific notes under the cut.

armand's motivations will never be revenge against louis or seeking an apology. louis owes him nothing, armand knows this and has always known this.

see, i can see him infiltrating the band. i can see him killing larry so that he can fracture the band and use alex to his benefit. armand doesn't want the great conversion, he also doesn't want vampires to gather at a fucking concert where lestat sings their history and potentially gets himself torn apart. armand would go through unhinged lengths to try to stop it, sure. but it's never about louis.

armand's feelings towards louis felt like his relationship to lestat being shoehorned into his relationship with louis. it's lestat who armand laments not loving him back how he loved him. lestat is who he throws off the tower, is willing to punish for not loving him ( particularly in paris before and after the trial ) .

he will not behead louis in my verse. he will not torture him. he will not look for a claudia look-alike to fuck with him.

he will replace his pictures with fred stein's bc he did want to sabotage the interview to a degree.

tw: i will not be using armand's csa as a punchline or reason for him being antagonistic or monstrous. he's monstrous bc he was brainwashed and tortured by a cult, bc he then ran that cult for 200 years. he is capable of horrific things bc he is a vampire who was completely detached from humanity for a long time.

before the cult, he wanted to be good.

like for lestat and daniel, armand would have a letter for louis.

armand in his verses set during tvl will continue to be a bit of a lost soul, trying to figure out who he is on his own ( bc he's never experienced that ). he'll haunt the people he loves and go to great lengths to stop what's happening. he would absolutely hold lestat hostage to try to get him to stop or to protect him.

he's upset with louis but he also knows he fucked that up.

he absolutely would be fascinated by fareed's research but he won't be beheading anyone.

the older vampire scoffs, arms folding across his chest in a defensive gesture. for a moment, he's shaped like an indignant young man, not the aged immortal he was. lestat could burrow under armand's skin with his existence alone, his voice like a bow drawn along the strings of his nervous system. and if he doesn't want to heed his warnings, then armand would sit first row to his destruction. ❝ said the most egregious of immortals. ridiculous is your expertise, lestat. ❞ but maybe lestat is right, it feels unreal to say that lestat's end could be a breath away.

❝ if not self-destruction or flagellation. what is your purpose? ❞ he wants to dig, nails covered in brain matter and blood until he can finally understand the other completely. instead, his clean nails grim his own upper arm. he'll stop him, naturally. he's no longer master of a coven, but his blood still gave him power. the rules might change, but he's still an enforcer. his survival demands it. the survival of those who have his love demand it.

he studies them with rapt attention. not starstruck, no. fame meant so little to a vampire. too many names had faded into obscurity in the last five decades, much less the five centuries of his life. after all, all things died — especially human interest and affection. still, he may have had some passing interest in haunting celebrities, even if this one's idol status would have made them off-limits for the kill.

he liked to change up the game sometimes, just to bat away the boredom.

something was different about them. the scent, the presence, it tingles at the back of his neck and feeds his curiosity. when the vampire stepped out in front of them under the glow of businesses lining the street, he said nothing. path blocked, and unless they chose to try to walk around him, armand had no intetion of moving. the only movement would have been to cut them off again.

( he thinks most would have been startled by his sudden appearance, but that doesn't seem to be the case )

❝ no. ❞ he says finally, ❝ something else. you don't smell like a cat. ❞ but not quite human.

armand chews the inside of his cheek, blood on his tongue to soothe the tense energy drawn out from daniel's observance. while he could offer his confused owl-stare to deflect, he doesn't this time. instead, he lets silence pass between them, his jaw relaxing and his posture becoming more controlled as he considers what he heard.

his restlessness. his frustration. the digging of pen and pencil through paper.

❝ okay. ❞ after a beat, but not before another passes, building courage from the pit of his stomach, he spins on his heel and begins to retreat to the accompanying bedroom. he beelines for the desk, drawing a tattered, clawed sketchbook that looked far older than the brief age it was. within it were attempts at sketches, outlines of daniel's silhouette, his profile, details sketched and crossed out, scribbles through every attempt, some pages ripped through by the pen itself.

❝ i meant for you to follow! ❞ he calls out over his shoulder, waiting to hear the tell-tale footsteps before he tosses the sketchbook onto the bed. ❝ look for yourself. ❞

armand sinks to the front steps of a mausoleum, one boot perched on the next step, with the other leg stretched out as he inspects beneath his jacket. it isn't often that he crosses paths with another creature that could cause him harm. 500 years old and he's honed his survival instinct and frankly thought he'd outlived most threats. but new orleans draws the supernatural, swarming like bugs at a back porchlight.

( something had been strange about his last victim, fingers with enough strength to claw their way through flesh and muscle )

his long nails trace tears in the silk fabric, crisp with dried blood. ❝ it will heal, ❞ he assures, amber eyes finally shifting to find lucy. with a sigh, he leaves the aching wound alone and drops his jacket over it for cover, hand finding a place on his knee instead. ❝ i have staggered around with worse, i'm sure. ❞

he's woozy. the figure in front of him comes into sharp focus, blurs, and he thinks he sees him rotate but it's only himself stumbling forward. the heavy boots on his feet feel like concrete foundations, ensuring his lean frame doesn't topple to the ground. the second he feels himself slouching, he tries to straighten his spine, but his shoulders still sag under an invisible weight.

a step forward, a pause — how much blood had he lost?

❝ i burned them. their blood was no good. ❞ solid and thick under charred skin until they were reduced to ash. the strength it had taken to unleash the fire gift in his weakened state had taken just about everything else out of him. the desperate adrenaline rush vanished and armand stood in the wake of a futile attempt on his life. at least once a decade, there were hunters with more bravery than wit, but just enough gumption to catch him off guard. dead man's blood, shotguns, and no finesse. yet, it was enough to leave his clothes soaked in his own blood, his body ill.

he staggers forward once more, past a forgotten axe, a zombie on his way towards caine. the world shifts again, ❝ would you stop moving? ❞

a half-smile forms, despite himself. two hundred and thirty years marked the most profound changes in his doubled existence and gabriella ( often left out of his tales ) was one of the two still alive to have witnessed his rebirth. and from then on, hadn't he changed enough times? reconciling that the foundational pieces that made him armand remained in place through the centuries was difficult. at times, he peers in the mirror and the face looking back turns blurry.

but here he sits, in the presence of her, and time flows backwards. picked up where they left off yet again.

he leans against the chipped brick outside of the venue, absorbing the vibration of lestat's music through the wall. armand wants to ask her what she means, but chews the inside of his cheek instead. he worries that it's him haunting lestat again, unable to let go. maybe it's lestat's wailing for attention. instead of posing the question, his eyebrows raise, ❝ like how you irritate me? ❞
