“She’d probably be like ‘she’s so pretty let her have it’.” She teased, shooting him a cheeky grin. “If Grandma Hughes gets mad, then I’ll have to tell her all about how her sweet grandson soaked me in his punch just to get me out of my dress. Sure she’d love that story.” Dominique was quick to make herself comfortable, taking the pins out of hair before she began twisting the stands into a braid as she spoke. It was odd of her not to care what she looked like in front of a boy – let alone in his bed. She found him easy to be around - to laugh with. True be told, Dom hadn’t expected to spend the rest of Valentine’s night having a sleep over with the boy who had ‘ruined’ said night but with each of his goofy grins and sly compliments she couldn’t find it in herself to be upset anymore. “Okay, first things first: we pick a movie. I’d recommend something romcom or disney? But since this is technically your first one, because Rhys doesn’t count, I don’t mind whatever you want to watch.”

“You’d turn my own grandmother against me? Dominique Weasley, I’m appalled---who would knit my sweaters then?” He held out his hand almost automatically, taking the pins from her and setting them on his nightstand. He leaned back against his headboard, looking at her with a bemused expression. He’d always boxed her and Annette into the same category of nice, but a bit too excitable for his tastes---and yet, here he was, finding himself enjoying her company far more than he ever thought he would. He’d certainly been wrong if her mood now was anything to go by. “Rhys is a great sleepover host, I’ve got to defend my mate---” He began with a laugh, “But he never lets me choose the movies, so I think you’ve won this round. Disney, hm?” Having a little sister and being muggleborn himself, he was quite familiar with all of their movies. Struck with a funny thought, he reached out, tugging lightly on a stray piece of hair that had been missed while she was braiding it, “How about the Little Mermaid, then? Movie about a redheaded songstress----you ought to like that, yeah?”

“It would greatly impact the Auror profession I suppose, however I guess my interest spikes because out of all the electromagnetic waves in existence we can only see an extremely small fraction of them. Would they too classify as invisible? Or impossible to witness? And does it have anything to do with invisibility…” She retracted a bit, feeling herself verging from her comfort zone of expression. “Too academic for you?”

“Well...” Dex pondered her question for a moment, “Muggles have made great advances in making frequencies outside of the visible spectrum visible; not to the human eye but with the help of certain kinds of telescopes or machines. I suppose a witch or wizard could create a magic equivalent; goggles of some type, maybe? I think as of now magical means of viewing things would really only apply to think that would normally be seen by man but are for some reason not visible.” He grinned, shaking his head, “I don’t mind academic discussions when they’re interesting; it’s the schoolwork itself that bores me to tears, Mira.”

Dex gave an easy shrug, “I’ve had a pass since fourth year----I think Flitwick was hoping allowing me into the restricted section would awaken some dormant academic in me; didn’t exactly work as he’d hoped.” He gave a yawn, before peering at her curiously, “What’s got you so interested in the unseen anyway?”

“Expecting? No. Hoping? Yes.” Rhys rolled his eyes, following his best friend out to the lockers, plopping down onto the bench. “Nothing happened? That’s not what everyone else is sayin’. Whoa, ease the jealousy. I came to the dance because you wanted me to and the first thing I see is you hand in hand with another person walking out the door – you ditched me. Even Annette knows the truth….you’re just mad because you’re not the one who got to dance with me.”

“What is everyone saying, then? I haven’t heard anything.” He asked, yanking a shirt over his head before using a towel to try and dry off his hair, “Anyway, mate, you’re the one who sounds a bit jealous. Curious though, that you end up with little Annie B---not that I blame you. A pretty Veela offers to play nurse for me and you’d better believe I’d drop you like a flobberworm.” Dex’s laughter filled the room, echoing off the lockers, “Well who wouldn’t be mad about that, Rhys? I got all prettied up, just for you, and I didn’t even get so much as a corsage. Quite frankly, I’m hurt.”

“–All the more reason to pay her a visit and ask for another.” She gave a wide grin as she sat right in the middle of the bed, patting the spot in front of her. “Declan Hughes, I’ll make sure to tell everyone about how much of a gentleman you were but this is like at least a, what, queen sized bed and we have been friends for at least three years, right? We can both fit somehow. You could like– sleep at the foot of the bed or we could, ya know, sleep like normal people sleep in a bed. I cross my heart and hope to die promise you I’ve had all of my cootie shots. –Now hop on up here and let me verse you sleepover etiquette. ”

“Yeah, I’ll tell her some pretty ginger stole mine, that’ll go over well.” He sat down where she’d gestured, stretching his arms behind his head, an amused laugh escaping his lips, “You’re right about that----but you think you have to teach me sleepover etiquette? I’ll have you know, Dominique Weasley, this isn’t my first---but now I’m curious, so by all means, continue.”

And if anything had, it’d have been your fault anyway, for ditching me. Some date you are----allergic reaction my ass.”

His laugh was infectious, making her frown quirk into a smile. Even if her eyes were red from holding back tears, they brightened at the mention of Annette picking out wedding patterns. “I’m going to be famous, you know. It might be smart to catch me while you can. I could be your Beyonce. You’d be a lucky man.” She joked, though shaking her head to make sure he didn’t take her seriously. Without having to be asked once more, Dominique got up from her spot, brushing her hands down her dress a final time.

“You win some, you lose some, guess? I can get my gran’ma to fix it when I got home next. Don’t worry about it.” In truth the stain wasn’t as bad as she had originally thought. The world hadn’t exploded and her career hadn’t ended because of a little bit of fruit juice and alcohol – even if she felt like it had. Still she couldn’t find the courage to get back up on stage and though he hated cigarettes, Dominique found hanging out with someone was better than moping alone. “–Since you’re super lonely and totes wanna marry me, I’d feel totally terrible letting you go off alone. So- I guess I’ll go with you, if you’re sure?”

“Yeah? Famous, huh? I could do a lot worse than being arm candy for the next Beyonce.” Dex’s grin only grew at the sight of Dom’s brightening expression. He really didn’t fancy the idea of having ruined her night and was glad to hear that he hadn’t. And of course he wouldn’t mind her company---he and Dom normally got on well enough, or they had when Annie and Rhys had been together. He chuckled, “Am I that transparent, Weasley? ‘Course I’m sure, wouldn’t have asked otherwise. It’s going to be your job to make sure I don’t fall asleep in the gardens again.” He stretched, before holding his jacket out for her again, “I’ll even let you have my jacket back; I can always summon Rhys’ if I get chilly, give him a good surprise. Shall we?”

She pulled him to the side, hoping to avoid any more humiliation as she narrowed her eyes at him. “You may be right, but it’s aphroceruisanam, not aphroceruisam. I don’t like people making me look stupid, pretty boy.”

He looked mildly surprised, “Ah, it is? My mistake.” He wasn’t all that fussed about getting the exact name wrong, and he didn’t really understand her frustration---he certainly hadn’t meant to imply she was stupid. “Wasn’t my intention---was just clearing it up so there wasn’t a mass panic, well, any more than there already is. I don’t think anyone over there is thinking you’re stupid---but good to know you think I’m pretty, Maran.”
