“Not my responsibility. If you want to be a judgemental bleeding heart be my guest.”
“Are you always this rude or am I just special?”
Laughing as she turned to Holly, Rory started pretend singing to the song as she danced around with the other girl. Rory had a bit too much to drink at this point. “I’m so happy!”
Despite not having had a drink, Holly felt like she was on top of the world. She laughed as they span together, giggles echoing through the hall. “Me too! This is the best party ever.”
“Most people…”
“Then most people are boring.”
“You’re not going to get a coherent or honest answer from anyone with that approach. Besides, aren’t you some kind of potions genius? Fix it yourself.”
"It’s not my fault if some people are dumb enough to mix their drinks. But I suppose if you see anyone vomiting uncontrollably or bleeding in odd places send them my way.”
“You can’t dance by yourself,” Odessa looked at Holly, smiling as she did so.
“Pendejo, who says I can’t?”
“Not meaning to intrude on your…. moment, love,” Dex said from his seat, "But I think you’re confusing amortentia with aphroceruisam, another love potion created by Laverne de Montmorency in the early 1850s. The alcohol interacts badly with the Angel’s Trumpet in the potion and causes the heart to stop—” Dex grimaced at himself; he was sounding like a bloody know-it-all, and he didn’t even care about any of this. “Sorry—anyway, you’re not wrong, it is a dangerous combination, but I’d say more because of what it’ll cause people to do, rather than the contents themselves.”
He was right, much to her annoyance. Aphroceruisam was the toxic one, not amortentia. How could she be so stupid? She pulled him to the side, hoping to avoid any more humiliation as she narrowed her eyes at him. “You may be right, but it’s aphroceruisanam, not aphroceruisam. I don’t like people making me look stupid, pretty boy.”
“Then, you should definitely treat yourself to a drink. Maybe two, or three for safe measure.”
“I don’t drink, , fuckface. For reasons that look exceptionally like you.”
“Someone owes me an explanation.” Holly slammed her hands down on the table, glaring at it’s occupants. “Who decided it was a good idea to spike the punch with amortentia and alcohol? Don’t they know it’s toxic if the two are mixed?”

Rory had been excited for the ball when it had been announced. Dazzled by the beautiful decorations, she walked onto the dance floor, swaying to the music. She had yet to make it to the punch bowl, but she needed to dance her way to thirst first. “This is such an amazing song!” she laughed.
“It is! Dance with me, Rory?” Holly grabbed her hands, spinning them both in time to the music. If there was one thing Holly absolutely loved, it was dancing.
“No, no. I don’t want to dance. I pulled a muscle yesterday flying.”
“Boring. You’ll just have to stand back and watch then.”
Benji rubbed at bruising knuckles as she made her way through the crowd back towards her friends with her face set in a frown. She had only been trying to find her date, the only reason she had come to the dance in the first place, but it seemed whoever thought amortentia was a good party favor sought to ruin the night.
“If you are trying to make me fall in love with you, puta, it’ll take more than a fucking potion.” She hissed at the boy splayed on the ground behind her who was clearly suffering a broken nose.
“And if you are trying to get kicked out, it won’t take more than that.” Holly stood between the two, arms folded over her chest stubbornly. “It’s not his fault that someone was stupid enough to spike the punch, was it? Unless it was, in which case” she peered over her shoulder at the boy “you can go fuck yourself.”
“No, no, I understand that its pretty fucked that the punch was spike but do we really have to let the night go to waste. Music is good. You look hot. Let’s dance or something. Jebal!”
“I do look hot.” Holly mused, thinking for a second before grabbing his hand. “Fine. Come and dance with me then.”
She wore flowers in her hair and carried magic secrets in her eyes. She spoke to no one. She spent hours on the riverbank and had midnight swims.
