Many consider that the romance between Nina and Charioce is forced, but I do not think so, and many may disagree with me, but I will say: Forced romance? Absolutely not, it’s necessary.

Charioce is a central character for the plot of history, without him basically we would not have story, and Nina as protagonist is an external agent of the problem of the three races, she doesn’t belong to any side. Then, with both of them, a romantic story is born that has been well managed since ep. 3, I mean, it was not born of mere whim, but was constructed coherently because it fulfills and will play a role within the development of characters (Nina and Charioce and others) and will also play a necessary role for the plot. It’s not only because of fanservice (if so it would have been with the most popular character in the series: Azazel, he’s a very lovable character).

It fulfills a function within the story and will advance the action and characters.

The writers not only don’t want to give us an absolutely black villain who only wants power and glory for an unjustified or ill-argued goal, but to show us diffuse and complex characters (Favaro is a great example), but also to show us that in these lines of hate and massacres there can be more than good and bad.

And why would Nina love an evil and cruel king like Charioce? Many claim that he doesn’t deserve it, but if something I know of love is that you don’t need reasons to love someone, you can not give concrete reasons: it’s unspeakable. So don’t look for reasons to love, just love and that is reflected in Charioce, someone aware of all the evil he has done but can love; and Nina is aware that Charioce is not the man you would introduce to your family and friends, but asking not to love is ridiculous. Thinking that there is no reason to be loved is also ridiculous.

So, if you ask me, this romantic relationship between them feels so human, so complex, like all human relationships.

There is no problem with romance if it fulfills a specific role within the plot that for the moment has not been completely defined. This is my opinion.

Q: Tell us how it was for you before you debuted in Idolmaster Side M

NS: I had always wanted to do music, so when I was 18 I left Okinawa for Tokyo. It wasn’t particularly that I wanted to study being a seiyuu or theater, but I had people around me who were doing theater. There was one day I watched theater, and thought “I want to do that myself”. I have this mindset of “once you thought of it, do it”, so I started attending school. Then, I entered an agency, and then Idolmaster Side M came in.

Q: Do you have a seiyuu you like, or admire?

NS: I’ve always liked seiyuus, but there’s this series called Metal Gear Solid, especially Ohtsuka Akio-san, I really like him. I thought “there’s a person who has a really cool voice!”

Q: What about your own voice, how are you going to put analysis on that?

NS: I thought so even before I did theater, but people and teachers around me have said “you have a high voice” a lot. Also, that I have a very “hero” and straightforward voice. But the other day I played a villain in a reading drama, so I’d like to use this opportunity to appeal that I can do evil voices too (laugh)

Q: Going to Side M, how is your character Tendo Teru like?

NS: He’s a previously-lawyer idol. He’s very hot and straightforward, and hates bending. But he’s 28-year old good adult, and not just a hot-blooded person, but he’s also aware of others’ weaknesses. He also likes dad jokes, and can be a soothing mood maker.

Q: You’re 27, he’s close to your age. It’s rare for an idol to debut at 28…

NS: Side M has very wide age range – from 32 to 9. The character setting is also all over. Teru is previously a laywer, some doctor, some from JSDF. Some would say “I became an idol to get more money” (laugh). It’s not just for female fans, I think male fans has something to look forward too, as well.

Q: How are you similar to Teru?

NS: I cannot say for myself, but I’ve been blessed to have people say “there’s no other Tendo Teru but you”, it seems we’re that similar. Personally, I think Teru is someone I can be friends with.

Q: Among the cast, who are you getting along with well?

NS: Side M members all get along well, we do chat on LINE often. But I’m especially close to Teru’s other Dramatic Stars group members, Yashiro Taku-kun (Kashiwagi Tsubasa) and Uchida Yuuma-kun (Sakuraba Kaoru). I often meet these two in private.

Q: What would you three be doing?

NS: doing karaoke, bouldering, eating… We all like eating, so if we find a good place, we’d message each other on LINE. The director told us it’s rare for a unit to become this close. The three of us also do web radio 315Pro Night every week. It’s work, but it’s so much fun. After recording, we would go out to eat with the staff members.
