We all like to laugh at this scene, but Pegasus basically provided the qualitative data that made Seto Kaiba create the Duel Disk as we know it.

I can imagine Seto thinking "Pegasus you manipulative wuss you're a grown ass man not a child just throw the damn thing," but after Mokuba was dragged out, tension and terror aside, he probably looked back on the memory when he reached the lab, thinking:

"Crap, there are people who may not have the strength or skills to throw this properly."

So he totally scraps the yo-yo concept and redoes the Duel Disk to make it more user friendly by the time Battle City comes around.

Ergo, Pegasus being genuinely awful at sports contributed to making the Duel Disk better.

How I feel about this character: I really do like him and think he's complex character. This guy is a true "ride or die" friend, yet he's played often as comic relief among the main cast, and he also gets treated like a punching bag throughout the series despite the hard work, effort, and integrity he puts into everything he does.

Holy shit, the wringer this poor guy went through during Battle City and Alcatraz, then for Mai to fixate on him and blame him for her troubles during Doma because... he can't read her mind halfway across the world and help her?? Yes, we can place some blame on Dartz and the Orichalcos stone for twisting her mind, but there wouldn't have been something to be twisted in the first place if Mai didn't have some sort of grudge towards him. I'm not downplaying Mai's trauma by any means and have many of my own thoughts on her Doma era and the PTSD that was inflicted by Malik, but I don't think it was very fair of her to put all of this resentment and expectation on a 16/17 year old boy who by all means considered her his friend and would have done, and did do, everything he could to help her once he realized how badly she'd been affected by the whole ordeal.

Then everyone (not just Seto!) proceeds to take a shit on him during the Grand Prix arc, like he didn't also help save the world for the third or fourth time in the previous season?? Come on!

I know he started out as Yuugi's bully and antagonized him, but he's long since paid his penance and he deserves more respect.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I'm an old-timey Polarshipper, though I vastly prefer this ship when Jounouchi has some more life experience under his belt as an adult and can approach Mai from that growth and life experience.

Wishshipping is cute, and I also like Buddyshipping. I'm a sucker for friends to lovers sometimes.

Can't remember the ship name for Rishid/Joey but I like that as both romantic and/or platonic friendship.

I also like Puppy/Violetshipping, because I am also a sucker for enemies to lovers. Or just enemies to enemies who fu

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I bro-ship him with Vivian Wong. I know it makes no sense but hear me out

They're both athletic jocks who are hot tempered and are wholly capable of throwing hands and holding their own if a fight were to break out in a bar. They'd be right at home in a John Woo flick.

And I ship them both with Mai so they can bond over their impeccable taste in the same woman.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I just said I polyship Joey/Mai/Vivian. That's about as unpopular of an opinion as it gets.

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: A whole episode where he gets separated from his group during the Ancient Egypt arc and meets a woman with red eyes that turns out to be the Red-Eyes Black Dragon, but she's more well adjusted and has a sense of humor compared to Kisara. She's aware of the stuff going on, but she actively makes an effort not to get involved because who wants to deal with that? But she ends up getting dragged into world altering situations anyhow because sometimes life just be like that and you gotta roll with the punches. Amiright?

a headcanon fact: He still likes to dress up as Marylin Monroe when he's by himself.

He would like to get a gig singing covers of his favorite songs at a classy night club in a sparkling sequin dress, but he's low-key haunted by the poor reception he received from the popularity contest in high school and talks himself out of it every time the thought crosses his mind.

Sightshipping for 001?

Also answering for @over-roaming-waves, who was curious.

Sightshipping

when I started shipping it: Back in 2017, I started drafting a fic about their adventure in Egypt trying to hide the God Cards. It was really supposed to be a drama/humor fic about Isis having a constant headache and finding Pegasus to be an annoyance (because I personally found Pegasus to be an annoying character at the time), but as I kept writing, I really fell in love with both of the characters and imagining how their personalities would clash and complement one another

The adventure fic was up for a while, but I yanked it offline not long ago. The story is undergoing revisions and I want to redo it as a comic because I'm a masochist

my thoughts: Do you like to read novels?

I have so many thoughts, but for the sake of the ask, I will try to keep it short.

I really like the idea of them being so set in their plans pre-series and not really being amicable at the start, the both of them so committed to their pasts and their Items that it blinds them from seeing any alternatives from their personal life scripts. Then both their plans go up in flames (Pegasus loses Duelist Kingdom and Seto shows Isis the grim fate she believed in is not infallible), they both lose their Items, and with Atem crossing into the Afterlife, they're no longer tied into the Great Game. So now they have this freedom to explore the future and what the world has to offer, but there's also uncertainty and powerlessness in not being able to foresee what is coming, not knowing what other people are thinking, and not knowing what to do next.

And somewhere in there, I like imagining them going from business acquaintances to friends to lovers.

(also my constant daydream about Isis wanting to confess to Pegasus that she foresaw him getting the Eye ripped out of his head but didn't say anything back then because she didn't believe she could alter destiny with a warning but uh oh-oh no Seto proved you can change the future so she feels like utter crap that Pegasus nearly died and fears he won't want to talk to her again and the looming sense of dread and judgment haunts her; she's so scared he's gonna kick her to the curb when he learns she could have saved him so much grief if she had just said something

and she's so absorbed in the guilt of her past inaction that she doesn't realize Pegasus can plainly see she's torturing herself with all these thoughts so he reaches out and touches her hand and

ok I'll shut up)

What makes me happy about them: The possibilities--in the anime timeline. They're both alive and there is a chance something could happen. Daydreams and headcanons abound

What makes me sad about them: They stand in a room staring at each other for less than 10 seconds in the anime. Isis talks about wanting to "fulfill his wishes" offhandedly in the manga (by getting the God Cards back from her brother). The most dialogue we see exchanged between the two of them is in a GBA game

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Isis with her job and intermittent dates with Aileen Rao; Pegasus sober with his art supplies and comics

My happily ever after for them: Married with 5 kids but one of them is a daughter biologically fathered by Seto Kaiba after Isis and Pegasus have a heated threesome with him in Marrakesh. Isis and Pegasus know the kid is Seto's, but they don't tell him because it would make things complicated, but Seto does eventually find out at his daughter's 13th birthday party. Seto punches Pegasus in the face and tells him he isn't surprised Pegasus could be that cruel but he can't believe Isis hid the truth from him, which leads to Isis' oldest daughter resenting her because she believes she was the product of an affair, even though she wasn't, but the fine details were not disclosed as Isis thinks the news that Pegasus isn't her biological father was already traumatic enough and she felt it wasn't appropriate to tell her teenage daughter she was conceived during a passionate threesome

Like it all works out in the end when all their kids are adults with their own lives and it gets better after a lot of shit hits the fan but that's my future/next gen "happily ever after" headcanon

who is the big spoon/little spoon: It switches, but I'd say Pegasus is the big spoon 70% of the time. He likes to hug Isis to his chest and doesn't want to let go because she is warm and comfy

And he has PTSD related to this

For 001, I'm curious about your thoughts on Puzzleship(Yugi/Atem(Yami Yugi)) and Sightship (Isis/Pegasus).

Puzzleshipping

when I started shipping it if I did: I don't personally ship it or regularly consume content of this ship, but I understand the appeal and why people like it.

my thoughts: I have a lifelong condition called "Protagonist Blindness" that renders me with the inability to fixate on characters the creator intended to be the main focus of the story. Instead, I hyperfixate on minor/supporting/background characters, with rare exceptions.

So I don't really have any in depth thoughts on Puzzleshipping. It's not that I don't care. I'm just drawing a blank with this prompt. Sorry What makes me happy about them: I'm glad they both experienced character growth as the series went on. It's ironic that Yuugi became more independent and confident in his abilities by having a constant companion in his life, and Atem grew to have more empathy and kindness in knowing Yuugi.

Hey, look, I guess I do have thoughts about this.

What makes me sad about them: The thought of Yuugi taking a moment to look for the Millennium Puzzle as he's getting ready to start his school day, wondering to himself why he can't he find it anywhere, then coming back to the realization the Puzzle has been buried in Egypt for weeks. things done in fanfic that annoys me: I think this was more of an annoying trend that took place in the early 2000s. At the very least, I'm not aware of it being as frequent as it was back then, anyway. The "trend" being: writers throwing Anzu under the bus and making her out to be some sort of bigot or yaoi blocking Anti-Christ as a means to prop up any m/m ship related to Yuugi and Atem. There was a big misogynistic vibe going on where Anzu-bashing was fairly prevalent and I'm happier to see it gone (or nowhere near as frequent as it was back then).

You don't need to butcher and demonize a teenage girl in order to build up a m/m ship. It's okay to stay friends and date other people. Tis all I am saying. things I look for in fanfic: I don't read Puzzleship fic so idk what I'd be looking for.

... What? My happily ever after for them: I'm sure people are going to be pissed with me saying this, but I think the anime series wrapped both their character arcs up alright and I don't think of their interactions beyond the conclusion.

How I feel about this character: This card game nerd deserves all the good things to happen to him. He needs a break. Seriously.

All the people I ship romantically with this character: I ship him with the Dark Magician and I 1000% blame @yearslateforyugiohshippings for this. I also think Yuugi/Jounouchi is cute and I sometimes I read Rivalship fics.

My non-romantic OTP for this character: Anzu, to be honest. I personally don’t like the idea of Yuugi being the “fallback” plan for her, and I just see them more as friends as adults rather than romantic partners.

My unpopular opinion about this character: I don’t think I have any unpopular thoughts? Because I don’t think about Yuugi enough to have unpopular thoughts I’m sorry 😔

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: I wish we could have seen more of him in GX. What with him being the canonical King of Games and all, he should have had more involvement in the Dueling Academy. Then again, that could be because he was busy designing games by this point, or Seto was just super salty and never invited him. Probably the latter.

my OTP: Alliumshipping. Again, I blame @kampfkewob.

my cross over ship: He would totally have a crush on Zatanna. You know it’s true

a headcanon fact: He never returned that naughty VHS Jounouchi lent him in high school, and it was lying somewhere on a shelf, forgotten, in a closet, until his mother found it when he was a grown adult with a career abroad. Cue embarrassment when his mother sends him a care package with various belongings, VHS tape included. Yuugi sends the VHS tape back to Jounouchi as a birthday present. Jounouchi opens the birthday present in front of Mai and Shizuka. Mai laughs at the label. Shizuka secretly steals the VHS tape after the party. There is immense disappointment upon realizing everything in the video is censored.

Pegasus

How I feel about this character: He is a lanky pompous pasty elitist jerkface pretty boy with Peter-Pan syndrome who has never had to do a day’s honest work in his life, and instead of accepting the fact that life can be cruel and unfair, he broke down and retreated into occultism, cartoons, and alcoholism. 10/10 absolute favorite disasterpiece of a man I love him

All the people I ship romantically with this character: Romantically? Cyndia, Isis, and I wager Siegfried has a huge parasocial crush on him

My non-romantic OTP for this character: I do like Toonshipping as a non-romantic ship. I can see Pegasus feeling legitimately bad about everything he’s done to the Kaibas and trying to make up for it over the course of several years in little favors and grandiose gestures. While Seto had his own villain arc and can empathize on some level about motivations, I cannot imagine him ever forgiving Pegasus for what he did or having romantic feelings for him, nor do I think Seto should forgive him at all (because, as much as I do like Pegasus, I don’t think he deserves forgiveness from Seto and he isn’t owed forgiveness just because he expresses remorse). Going to bed out of anger and resentment is totally on the table tho

My unpopular opinion about this character: More headcanon than opinion, but I don't think Pegasus really knew Cyndia that well as a person. I don't doubt he loved her. What I doubt is his own memory in regards to Cyndia's own wants and needs.

He takes the time to write in his journal about his dreams and aspirations, yet despite her being the love of his life, he doesn’t write a single sentence about Cyndia’s? We don’t get anything about her hobbies, her dreams, her aspirations, her life, or even her own dialogue?

The Doylist reasoning can come down to: Takahashi and the series writers didn’t make up a backstory for Cyndia beyond her being a motivation tool for Pegasus. However, I propose the Watsonian reasoning in that Pegasus was self-centered and oblivious to what Cyndia wanted to do because he was more invested in the vision of her being his wife, instead of being invested in listening to her and paying attention to her needs as an individual.

That said, I’m still a Roseshipper and I do love this tragic ship. :’D

One thing I wish would happen / had happened with this character in canon: It did happen in canon, I’m just mad we didn’t get a whole episode dedicated to it: His duel with Doma-era Mai. I would have totally loved to see her talk smack and absolutely rip him a new one during their duel right before she took his soul. Listen, I love Pegasus, but after all the fuckery in Duelist Kingdom, he had it coming.

my OTP: Pegasus/Mister Crocketts.

What? Oh. Oh, I see. Just because Isis is my all time fave and I've written fanfic and drawn fanart and have several WIP folders of headcanons and theories about Sightshipping, y'all think it's my OTP.

I like how Bandit Keith and Pegasus represent 2 extremes of American stereotypes in the series

Pegasus being the obnoxious wealthy elitist who believes no one can touch him while Keith is likely from a lower/working class background obsessed with money and guns

Keith is very much an asshole, but Pegasus is a bigger asshole due to his access to obscene levels of wealth and has little-to-no limitations on how far he wants to exploit people when it suits him, all the while appearing to be a clean and upstanding figure to the public. Once again, this is due to how he can use his abundant pool of resources to manipulate people and their perception of him, while Keith basically has to scrape up whatever he can get his hands on to get closer to his goals, manners and decorum be damned

The scene in the anime where Pegasus flushes Keith down a trap hole is an accurate representation of just what people from Pegasus' background think of people from Keith's background--waste that can be disposed of at a whim once they're no longer useful or entertaining

Meanwhile, you have Rebecca, who serves as a sort of middle ground and the third American stereotype: A loud, aggressive personality who talks over everyone and doesn't listen to alternate interpretations because she believes she is justified in taking what "rightfully belongs" to her (which, oddly enough, was motivated by an off-hand comment where Rebecca told Yuugi and co that she met Bandit Keith at a tournament in the States and the latter told her that Arthur's Blue-Eyes was "stolen" by Sugoroku)

TLDR

Pegasus - elitist imperialist "champagne socialist" jerk

Bandit Keith - working class "rise and grind" jerk
