i miss sweetandsure sm 😭 i stare at their ao3 acc like a lovelorn widow at her dead husband’s picture istg
SAME!!! i downloaded their fics like 8x just in case they ever go away because something this good needs to be cherished forever. wish i found them sooner, though. by the time i stumbled onto them, they'd already stopped posting for a bit 😭 and now my brain is mush and my heart is in tatters. genuinely wishing them nothing but peace love and happiness, and whoever pushed them off writing should honestly just choke.
The Booksellers (D.W. Young, 2019)
Thought this could fit in well here
Ok I don’t mean to be doing this too often but I literally just wrote a paper about this so I thought I would comment! The English translation is The Cursed Woman but the original French is La Femme Damnée. “Femmes Damnées” was the title of a Baudelaire poem from his acclaimed 1857 book Fleurs du mal, which was known, among other things, to be a collection that famously dealt with the subject of lesbians. The poem tells the story of the desires and passionate love between two lesbians: Delphine and Hippolyte. As a result of this poem and of the book as a whole, the terms “fleurs du mal” and “femme damnée” became lesbian monikers of the turn of the century. Though some have deemed the term “damned women” to be accusatory of some moral dissonance, the poem it is derived from is actually quite sympathetic to the condition of lesbian love as it is a love which is unable to fully flourish in that time. Regardless, the translated title of Tassaert’s painting is misleading, as the original French is less accusatory and more identifying. The title is more accurately “the lesbian.”
And she’s doing fine
A gif for Mermay!
This gif actually, literally made me laugh out loud and send it to every group chat I’m in just to get yelled at. Thank you.
I checked the notes looking for these exact frames and was not disappointed.
wow millennials are glued to their i-phones and laptops so much they cant even be bothered robbing in person anymore!!! maybe these trust fund babies should stop phishing credit cards while sitting on their butts and go out there and put some elbow grease into their thievery!
I know exactly what happened. Because it happened to me.
I trained for years to be a con artist. I told my friends and family that I wanted to be a magician, but that was just a cover for why I was constantly practicing sleight of hand.
In junior high and high school, I would shop lift a bunch of candy on my way to school, sell it to kids at the morning break, and use that money to run a crooked poker game at lunch.
Finally, when I was 19 or 20, I felt I was ready, and I picked my first pocket. I was on the bus, bumped a guy as I passed down the aisle, got his wallet, super clean.
In the wallet was several hundred dollars. A huge first score, I had been hoping for a couple twenties. I sat there looking at the, like, 400 bucks, thinking.
That was my rent at the time. We were both on the bus. It was likely his rent too. Lord knows the only reason to carry that much cash on the bus is you’re on your way to pay a bill. We were both on the bus, you know? That’s not someone I was comfortable stealing from.
I tapped him on the shoulder and told him “hey i think you dropped this” and gave it back to him with all the money still in it. It was the first and last time I ever picked a pocket.
Picking a rich person’s pocket is a loosing game. They probably have credit cards and not cash, those credit cards probably have the best anti-theft measures their bank can provide, and you probably can’t get close enough to those people to pick their pockets unless you’re already rich yourself.
The people who’s pockets you can reliably pick are the people around you. The people who are also on the bus, who are in this same shitty situation with you.
As wealth inequality becomes more drastic picking pockets has very clearly become “stealing from other poor people” and it’s not satisfying. I want to steal from Google and Apple and Fox and Facebook and General Mills and Hershey and Tesla. Not the person next to me.
Wow. This post went from funny to a life lesson in a way I wasn’t expecting, amd I’m not sorey at all.
See, unlike the capitalist elite, common criminals have a sense of morality and empathy.

GLASS ONION: A Knives Out Mystery (2022) dir. Rian Johnson
I think the key to appreciating the Knives Out movies is accepting that they take place in a setting where “world’s greatest detective” is something a person can be rock-star-level famous for. Everything proceeds from that. “Oh, but it’s not plausible that the Louvre would let Elon Musk rent the Mona Lisa” like, maybe not in our world, but that doesn’t matter. These folks don’t live in our world. We’re playing by Agatha Christie Cinematic Universe rules here – of course shit like that happens.
(And no, the factual inaccuracies in the depiction of the Mona Lisa are not meant to secretly hint that it’s a replica – this is nowhere suggested in the text of the film, and its entire thematic core is undermined if the painting that burns is a fake. Besides, one of the central tenets of the mystery genre is that if an incongruity is meant to be significant, it will be explicitly highlighted; this is done so that the viewer doesn’t need to bring any unusual knowledge to the film to understand what’s going on, and to insist otherwise is to fundamentally misunderstand what kind of film you’re watching. The film probably chooses to depict the Mona Lisa as a canvas painting simply because canvas burns up more dramatically than wood!)
never noticed this
