Come to my exhibition in Sydney!
Birds on a wire
While parking in a new place near work, and wandering around different parts of Parramatta for a project I was working on, I came across this amazing spot where birds come to hang out together on the electrical wires.
I don't know why they're there, no-one seems to be feeding them, but without a doubt, every morning and afternoon - there they were. Of course, when the lighting was right, I couldn't resist.
April 2015 Highlights
I've shot quite a lot of things over the last month. Surprisingly too as it rained for most of it! The storms that swept across Sydney were incredible!
April Highlights include: Buildings/Balconies, a visit from my bestie, La Perouse after the Sydney Storms, waiting for the train, Royal National Park hike - after the storms.
There will be a bunch more posts from events that occurred in April, but here is the best shots that don't quite make a series or post!
Priscillas Girls - 3
Part 3 of 3 - Bonjour Amy!
Working in the Contact Sheet studio, the idea of the shoot was to feature the girls as themselves and bring out their personality and personal style. I was also lucky enough to be donated some outfits by Sydney designer, Karen Yang so used these as a second part of the shoot where we would be more traditionally fashion. Finally, the third part of the shoot was beauty to feature make-up artist Vito Fadden in some more of Karen Yang's designs.

I can finally share one of the big shoots I completed earlier in the year with you!
This shoot was put together to raise my profile with one of Sydney's model agencies and to collaborate some more with other professionals in the industry.
As you may have seen already, I was recently published in Jute magazine's 'faces' for this shoot, with Priscilla's girl, Perri Roach. (Blog post here) I want to share some of the shots that didn't make it into the magazine feature; and also the other girls I photographed that day, in the coming posts!

March 2015 Highlights
The first of my monthly photography highlights posts. A little look into the month that's gone and some of my favourite shots I captured over the month that I haven't written about already.
March highlights include, my 30th birthday, Mardi Gras pre-party, beaches, a few portraits, a trip to Sydney fish markets and the food made from it, balconies, buildings, a sunrise and a hotdog.
a take on 'Awkward Family Photos'
My partner works with an interesting bunch of people who decided that they really wanted to treat their boss to an amazing and quite different work 'family album'.
Inspired by the always hilarious blog 'Awkward Family Photos' I was asked to photograph the group in strange and obtuse poses; then post producing them over the top 80's inspired backgrounds. (Remember that cloud background in old family portraits??)
Shooting at the contact sheet studio in St Leonards, I went for a pretty simple lighting set-up that would work well with a group doing various positions. A large soft box at 3/4 and another on the white background a bit stronger to blow it out as much as possible so that I could remove it without too much drama in post.
It was also my first studio shoot with my new Sony a7ii! First time I'd gone mirrorless in the studio. A hint for others - turn off the 'live exposure effect' setting - I couldn't see anything through the viewfinder except for 2 seconds while the camera focused! (Kept a brave face in front of the client though!)
Anyway I was very happy with the results, as were the group's boss! The photos themselves turned out... well... awkward. AND HILARIOUS!

Dream Big - TWT Block Party
Last night was the opening of a new exhibition at Contact Sheet along with the quarterly Block Party in St Leonards!
The Block Party was pretty awesome. 13 art and creative venues open late to the public. I explored, I discovered and I was inspired! The unveiling of new street art by Jodee Knowles was the events Grand Opening feature, with the Dive Bar serving performance and ambience well into the night.
I found truly inspiring work at Contact Sheet by Anita Modok and Jon Hart, live mural painting by Chris Yee, delightful sounds with Danielle Lamb and an amazing performance in the brand new Dive Bar (which is basically a fully decked out car park).
Can't wait for the next one! Check out the photos here
UK on film
As always, I shoot in film as well as digital. So below are my offerings from Christmas in the UK on film.
I took my Yashica 108 and my Lomo Diana with me. I used Lomo film in the Diana that was 800iso - the film backing appears to have also been exposed onto it - which is why you can see numbers on it.
Enjoy!

Christmas in the UK
So I have to apologise for not keeping my blog very well updated recently. In my free free time I've been playing with my christmas toy (PS4) and in my normal free time I've been very very busy on some very exciting projects that I can't post just yet.
But what I have done now, is finally finish working on and sorting through all the photos from the UK. So I wanted to share them. These are the best digital shots I took with a film post to follow.
I've got to say, after the UK being my home for 4 years, returning was a strange experience. Like going back home and it feeling like you'd never even left (besides the giant new skyscrapers that weren't there before). After getting off the plane and boarding the tube, it honestly felt like I had just popped over to Europe for a quick visit and was back home in London. Very strange sensation.
Luckily, the friends we were staying with lived on the opposite side of London to where I lived, so I did get a little chance to explore new places! After one night in London, we travelled up to Leeds and Yorkshire, where we spent the rest of our trip travelling around and seeing friends and relatives. York, Harrogate, Saltburn-by-Sea were just a few of our destinations.
Enjoy....

Curated to VSCO 2
Another of my shots has been added into the curated VSCO Grid!
It's on page 3 as I post this - http://grid.vsco.co/
Pretty cool.
The shot is from Inside there Falls which was an art installation that combined an immersive experience with sculpture sound and dance; featured as part of Sydney Festival 2015.
Work Experience
This week I'm doing work experience at Saatchi & Saatchi Sydney. It's a brilliant opportunity for me to see how photography is put into use at an advertising level and all the ways that it's used and manipulated for individual campaigns.
It's very exciting for me!
PS - HUGE shoot lined up for Monday - been working hard on this one for a few months - and a bunch of pics from my UK Christmas adventure to come.
New Year update!
I'm back!
So just wanted to mention that I spent Christmas and New Year in the UK this year with family and friends and it was splendid - hence why I've been silent for so long.
This year is shaping up to be busy and exciting, with a heap of projects in the pipeline, and a few coming to a close as well - such as the first house project I started in 2013. Can't wait to get into it and get them uploaded for you!
I'm also working on launching a re-touching business on the sideline as this is another of my passions - and I think I'm pretty good at it! You can see my portfolio at this website!
Don't be a stranger, get in touch! [email protected]
Cheers, Dan.
