Technologies are now merging at high speed, notably robotics and artificial intelligence. It raises a lot of questions about man-machine relation. Tainted with dark humor, this dystopian anthropomorphization also underlines the fears that robotics engenders. How automated do we want our world, our body to be? What physical, moral and legal framework should we use? What consequences for human life? Which society of free time shall we build? How are we bound to work? Shouldn’t the school reinvent itself? At the turn of the century, questions related to automation are popping up in everyone’s mind. We will have to answers them collectively, if possible.

iDoll is an interactive projection that explores our cult of icons and interactivity as a way to build our identity. It takes a form of an immersive installation using an antique and damaged Madonna sculpture augmented with the ultimate face recognition technology. A kind of update or hack to fix it, if we can say so.

GOLEM is a concept that uses sculpture and video to create an uncanny feeling. The Fine-Arts Museum of Lyon, invited Arnaud Pottier to bring three of their sculptures to life.

Light Kinetics is the last interactive installation of Espadaysantacruz a, Madrid based, creative studio.

In this piece, light is controlled by a physics simulator creating a astonishing effect. A piezo electric sensor situated in the first bulb captures the force of the tap, generating a light particle that moves along the loop. All the shades of the energy are reflected in the trajectory of the light. The system is powered by Unity 3D that simulates de forces that apply to the virtual corpuscle.

French Interactive Designer Filipe Vilas-Boas has created an awesome and beautiful way to turn peoples’ thoughts into shooting stars and constellations. Entitled Shooting Thoughts, Villas-Boas’ interactive art installation enables people to create their own unique constellations on the spectacular vaulted ceiling of Saint-Eustache Church in Paris, France.

Visitors create their constellations using their mobile phones by sending text messages to a certain number. The text messages are received by a computer program which translates them into instructions for a network of lasers mounted on the cathedral’s pillars. The lasers then project the patterns created by the software and, when certain beams of light align, a large cross is generate in the center of the ceiling.

Villas-Boas says, “Like all of us, each star finds its place at its own speed with its individual trajectory.”

THAW is a novel interaction system that allows a collocated large display and small handheld devices to seamlessly work together. The smartphone acts both as a physical interface and as an additional graphics layer for near-surface interaction on a computer screen. Our system enables accurate position tracking of a smartphone placed on or over any screen by displaying a 2D color pattern that is captured using the smartphone’s back-facing camera. The proposed technique can be implemented on existing devices without the need for additional hardware.

This installation plays the keys of a piano based on the movements and shapes of the clouds. A camera pointed at the sky captures video of the clouds. Custom software uses the video of the clouds in real-time to articulate a robotic device that presses the corresponding keys on the piano. The system is set in motion to function as if the clouds are pressing the keys on the piano as they move across the sky and change shape. The resulting sound is generated from the unique key patterns created by ethereal forms that build, sweep, fluctuate and dissipate in the sky.

Brilliant Cube is a kinetic 3D matrix, comprised of 576 clear LED poles moving up and down. The dimension is 6M X 6M X 6M. It is located at Gangnam station crossroads, one of the most crowded spots in Seoul being a new landmark of Gangnam.

With the theme of "Live Brilliant" each LED stands for the brilliant moment of our lives, and by the structure this shows the frameworks of our time that implies the social shift of each individual with equal capacity tiered in the same distance and depth.

Brilliant Cube, created by a renowned media artist Jin-Yo Mok, in collaboration with Seoul based media artist group: Jonpasang, is not only a kinetic sculpture, but a medium for various messages.

This installation is supported by Hyundai Motor Company and Gangnam Gu.

Sound production has never been more accessible, it’s now possible to make music on everyday computers, smartphones and tablets. The processes that generate the sounds are invisible inside these black boxes, and the traditional link between the action and the result from acoustic instruments is lost to both the performer and audience.

This workshop uses Ototo, a printed circuit board synthesiser developed by Dentaku to which conductive materials and sensors to quickly prototype sound interactions. With this as a starting point we will explore how we can represent sound as a physical processes, and create a large scale music making machin
