Came across this beached boat today on the estuary. Walking around I noticed the mast angle matched the building behind and after a few pics I noticed the perfect reflection of the old post in the foreground. It was cold, misty and silent down the beach this morning, but as soon as the sun hit the beach the fog rolled away dramatically. Been working on one of my favourite images I've taken. Shot through ancient glass of the Hook Lighthouse at the Southernmost tip of the Hook Peninsula in County Wexford, Republic of Ireland. The Hook Light is the second oldest working lighthouse in the world at 898 years old this year. The very window even appears on the Coat of Arms of County Wexford. Looking at the state of the world at the moment it's hard, very hard, to make sense of where we're at. But, I love you. It may seem strange, because many of you hardly know me, and some of you don't know me at all. But all the same I love you. If people can choose to hate people because of their race, their gender, their ability, their sexuality, their religion, their culture - or for no reason at all. Then I can consciously choose to LOVE YOU for all those reasons - or for no reason at all. I don't care if that's too simplistic or too naive for you. I'm too tired, too old, too drained to argue with you. I'm tired of the hatred, sick of the violence, tired of the greed. I've lived with it for 61 years and it hasn't changed a single damn thing. Just brought us to the brink of destruction. I know this though. I know the kind of world I want to live in, and the kind of world I want my children to live in and the kind of world I want to leave behind. And occasionally in the actions and deeds of my friends, my good friends, and in the kindness of strangers, I can glimpse that world and its beautiful.. So, for all these reasons and many more, I choose to love you. (And if at this point you've reached for your sick bucket - I just, don't, care).
