Jai shri Indra.
Om indraya namah.
One of the best things that helped me - with both my practice and my mental health - was learning from a Buddhist monk that meditation is supposed to be hard.
As someone with ADHD, I had always thought it was way too hard, and far too boring. Or even too intrusive thought-involved. So I would come with ways when made to meditate to distract myself, think about specific things.
But then I actually studied Buddhism, and learned that even the Buddha Himself struggled with it. On his journey to the Middle Way, he learned all the different paths - asceticism, luxury & greed, and of course, finally the Middle Way.
Meditation is not supposed to be easy. Monks and nuns, clergypeople, they practice it for years to eventually, hopefully, escape the cycle of samsara and reach nirvana. It is a skill, to be learned. It is not something one can innately do. (Unless you can and, hey, more power to you!)
Another tip I learned: thoughts are just thoughts. Take them, and put them on a leaf in your mind, and let them float down the river. It is all part of learning, all part of your practice.
