im-elegantly-wasted:
“Come love me! Loch Ness Monster’s need love too. “ Trent replied as the top of his costume fell and covered his eyes. “ Loch Ness Monster’s apparently also have poor vision”
"Why are you not at the town function?" Maverick asked, his stare piercing through the man’s costume. He obviously knew that he wasn't actually the Loch Ness Monster, but costumes had a way of bothering Maverick. They blocked him from seeing people as they were and he didn’t like it.
“Yes, Hannah” The blonde replied with a smile as she continued to hold out her hand. Perhaps it wasn’t the best way to get to know people by popping out and introducing herself, but she just wanted to make friends at the end of the day. “ Maverick? That’s a very interesting name. It’s nice to meet you,Maverick” Hannah repeated back shaking his hand. She raised an eyebrow at having met before. “When did we meet? “ She asked genuinely confused as to whether or not she forgot an introduction.
"Is it?" He had always been indifferent towards his name, only occasionally believing that he was living up to its meaning. "I prefer your name. Hannah. It’s pleasant to hear." He felt his shoulders weaken, realizing that she didn't remember their initial encounter. Maverick found himself caught up in his disappointment, despite the fact that it was for the better. His first impression hadn't been the greatest and he was, in a way, getting a second chance. "Recently. I don't recall the exact date, but it was within the last week."
Fiona: Okay. Prove me wrong.
Maverick: I will absolutely prove you wrong.
Maverick: I am positive that she has a wonderful personality.
Fiona: But where's the proof?
Maverick: Fine. I will get to know her. I will prove to you that she is everything that I believe her to be.
“ She is my family that matters. Those other people I’m biologically related to are not what a family is. Have you met my grandmother? She’s basically a serial killer. I honestly doubt that. Where someone went doesn’t guarantee anything even respect. It was an option. I got accepted to plenty of schools, I just wanted to go here for now. Are you implying I wasn’t good enough to go to a pretentious school? I can show you acceptance letters that prove otherwise. Now I know you’re full of shit”
"I am only pointing out that she is not your whole family." He nodded yes at Jameson's question initially, having met his grandmother, but what followed confused Maverick. "How can you basically be a serial killer, Jameson? That doesn't many any sense." Maverick responded, somewhat flustered by his words, "You either are, or you are not." Shaking his head no, he looked down at Jameson, "I am not implying that at all. I think that you made a mistake by rejecting your acceptances. I would have gone to one of those schools if I had been given the opportunity.” His usual monotone voice hid the bitterness in his tone, but the words alone made it obvious that he felt jealous.
“ I’ve been over a month and I still haven’t made that many friends, so hello, my names Hannah. It’s nice to meet you” She replied holding out her hand
Fiona told him to get to know her. He felt as though he already did, but admittedly it wouldn't hurt to introduce himself. "Hannah?" he asked, clarifying that he had heard her correctly. "I'm Maverick." Holding out his hand, carefully wrapping it around hers, "We met once before," Maverick let go of her hand, "however, It wasn't the right moment then. This moment is better."
Fiona: The only thing I want you to explain is how you can fall for someone without knowing them? Like what about her personality?
Maverick: I am positive that she has a wonderful personality.
Fiona: I doubt that there is but good luck in Maverick land on that one.
Fiona: Try to, because if you really like this girl you don't know you should go talk to her. See what she's like and all that
Maverick: Would you like me to explain it to you?
Maverick: I already know that she is perfect.
“Because I like being here. I like being around my family other than ‘on weekends or when it’s convenient’ like other people. The school is just a school. Where someone goes doesn’t dictate they will be a success. You can go to an Ivy League school and be terrible or a small school and be amazing. None of it matters at the end. You either have it or you don’t”
"You make it sound as though your whole family is here. It is only your mother. Not that she isn't a nice person, she is, but you have relatives elsewhere. While I do understand where you are coming from, a prestigious school would garner you more respect. I wouldn’t have given that up if I were in your position. If going to a respectable school was an option. I am not sure if it was an option for you. Regardless, I know people will be happy that you have returned.”
Fiona: Because it would take too long to explain through text and I don't feel like typing a paragraph.
Fiona: Oh good thank you for telling me I was going to go work on my degree in teaching......That has nothing to do with what were talking about.
Fiona: How?
Maverick: Fair enough.
Maverick: There is relevance.
Maverick: I can't explain.
“Why? Because I spent half my life not being here with the actual good parent around and now that this is my decision I wanted to go home. I can write anywhere. it doesn’t matter where I do it”
"I fail to understand the connection. If you had gone somewhere else, you would still be able to see your mother. Well, yes. I suppose you can write anywhere, but wouldn't you rather go to a better school?"
Rope - Maverick & Victor
Cracking a smile, Victor remarked, “I get told that a lot actually - not that I attract a lot of kinky people, but that people don’t always know how to respond to some of the stuff I say…or do, really.” But Maverick sort of gave off that vibe too. It was a pleasant-weird, like they were foils of one another; two weird kids made different by chance and circumstance.
When Maverick had finished explaining his stance on dodge-ball, the other man couldn’t help but cringe reminiscently. “I don’t know, I went to school with a bunch of Mojave Desert kids, and there were a few who I think were just dehydrated and pissed-off, but they didn’t wanna win so much as they wanted to throw things, so dodge-ball was always a little risky - especially when I was like, fourteen, and already looked awkward enough when I’d do magic tricks.”
Grateful to gloss over conversation of his mysterious illness (and really, if this thing didn’t end him soon, Carl Callahan would. If you really want to infuriate your physician, be a medical anomaly that however many years of med school can’t explain), Victor gave Maverick an appreciative nod. “Thanks, me too.”
As he began unraveling the rope, the man shrugged, “I mean, I know that some people took videos of stuff I did at parties and whatever, but cellphone cameras really aren’t on the same level as all of this. But I’m really psyched that you wanted to do this. ‘Escape artist’ isn’t the most stable of jobs, but working with you is a really sweet opportunity, career-wise.”
“And actually, most of it is just wrapping - you start at the halfway point of the rope, and kinda just go up symmetrically from behind the ankles.” Handing Maverick the rope - bent at the aforementioned halfway point - Victor continued his ‘wiki-how’ quality rope-tying tutorial. “From there, criss-crossing rope as you go up, make sure you don’t give me any any wiggle-room at the knees or below the ribs, and when you get to the wrists, tie one knot behind them, and one in front - y’know, for good measure and all.”
Kinky. There was that word again, a word that Maverick new the meaning of but didn't quite understand the word at the same time. "In my experience, the world is full of sexual deviants and they will make everything out to be about sex.” Maverick had a bitter attitude towards the topic, having been slammed for having sexual undertones in one of his short films (despite not understanding where it was coming from). Shaking his head, “It is beyond me.”
Maverick couldn’t quite relate to Victor's history, though he had his fair share of awkward teen years. “I never did magic, but I can tell you that people do not take kindly to being followed around by a camera,” calmly, he straightened his posture, pressing down on the sides of his boxers as if he were smoothing out the suit he had been wearing, “and that is why contracts are important.”
“They do not count.” he remarked, nearly scoffing, “everyone believes that they are a filmmaker nowadays because they can take a video on their phone.” His tone shifted, as well as his demeanor, as Victor commented on the opportunity to work for him, Rather than feeling arrogant, though, he felt flattered by Victor’s comment. It wasn't often that people appreciated working with him, "I do hope that it will be worth your while. I am the best director in town, but many do not agree. I will not let this opportunity go to waste.”
Maverick took the rope into his hand, keeping it in the position in which it was handed to him, and listened to Victors instructions carefully “Do you need to be in the pool first?” he asked, glancing down at the rope, “I’m not familiar with stunts.” He was eager to get started, but he didn’t want to mess up.

Fiona: I'll tell you later
Fiona: You can't fall in love with someone without knowing them Maverick.
Maverick: Why not now? You would make a terrible teacher.
Maverick: I do, in a way.
