So I’m seeing beetlejuice 2 on Friday and I have some questions (if you’ve seen it no spoilers please)

1. Will the Maitlands be in this? They were hardly in the musical and there’s no way they got Alec Baldwin back… did they get exorcised 😭😭😭 and that’s part of why their house is covered up??

Say what you want about the Jellicle Ball, but the fact that the musical can be mixed with the ballroom scene without altering the themes or the lyrics proves that Cats is, and has always been, an inherently queer piece of media.

Literally no other musical would've worked this well. Every iteration of Cats (except for the movie) celebrates diversity and expression through all ages and genders, this one as well. There's no competition which replica or nonreplica did it best, every version is its own and the more there is, the richer we are.

In The Jellicle Ball (the current off-broadway revival, where they aren't actually cats at all but performers in the queer ballroom scene), Mistoffelees and the Rum Tum Tugger actually kiss.

I saw Mistoffelees and Tugger kiss. On Saturday. In person. With my own eyes.

And not even like a light kiss. The kind where they're kinda eating each other's faces.
