belle sighed with a knowing smile, a teasing tone in her whisper: “there’s nothing embarrassing about dungeons & dragons, penny.” she wasn’t a stranger to people thinking d&d was weird, but she’d always seen a true kindness in penny and she was clearly trying hard to learn about it despite it being the last thing penny probably ever expected to be interested in. “they’re not garden gnomes, they’re dwarves. so there’s two types: there are hill dwarves and mountain dwarves. they all have different lore and abilities so if you choose to play a dwarf, you’d follow the rules of what their species have. like hill dwarves have very deep intuition.”

“every popular kid in an 80s movie would disagree.” penelope replied, still hushed but trying to hold back a giggle. listened to belle explain garden gnomes, sorry, dwarves was not exactly how she wanted to spend her evening but she wanted to know about what belle and barley would go on about when they were all together. they never made her feel left out but she wanted to join in... show them she was interested. “intuition? oooh, that’s neat.” she said tapping her chin, “there aren’t any beautiful, stunning, and gorgeous blonde haired princesses. who have the magical ability to stun their competitors with their singing voice?”

cruella rolled her eyes. already well-aware of carthay’s existence, she tossed up whether she really wanted to return to it again so soon. if the girl’s suggestion didn’t satisfy, then she might have to go there after all — it was taking too long to hire a new personal chef after she’d gracefully let the previous one go for not doing her eggs exactly how she wanted them. gracefully and definitely not with a fork-shaped stab mark on their arm.

“mama ode’s. charming,” she drawled, heaving a dramatic sigh. “well. you’re quite a promising one, aren’t you?” cruella looked over the woman’s attire again. “we’ll see if someone in this damn city finally has taste. go,” she flittered her fingers forward, gesturing for her to start walking.

penelope knew that she was in for a challenge. all she had read up on cruella was how difficult she was to be around. but the blonde liked a challenge and she liked even better having her foot in the door of fashion. even if it was someone with a reputation like miss devill's. because penny knew all too well the saying of any publicity is good publicity.

"it's better than it sounds." penelope said with a smile, when complimented on her outfit she could almost bounce with glee, "i designed it myself." she explained, as she began leading the way "nothing compared to your designs, of course."

penny let out a laugh but it was a fun alibi. when nala stated she was good at being seen penelope fully took it as a compliment. how could it not be? penelope knew this much of herself: she was stunning, great hair, better outfit, and the perfect personality. everyone wanted to see her and be seen with her. “oh thank you.” she said waving it off as if it off as if it was nothing and she didn’t completely agree, “hmm, lets see. everyone loves going to club 33 on the weekends. or the pier.. which i try to avoid the smell of fish.” she shrugged, “or if you’re feeling frisky go to snake eyes...”

after weeks of unwanted anonymity, it was refreshing to finally be recognised — if not also completely suspicious. the girl was fashionable enough. not entirely disgusting look at. cruella looked the blonde little thing up and down, an arched eyebrow the only indication that she was welcome in her space. for now.

“ i’d be surprised if this … ” cruella held her folded pair of de vil sunglasses ( 2018 collection ) over her eyes as she looked around, “ ... amusement park had any standards at all. but when in rome… ” she huffed, turning back to the girl again. “ the name of a place that serves more than tiny cakes and piss-poor coffee would do, little roman. it might even be your lucky day. ”

"well," penny said thinking for a moment if any of the eateries were really up to the standard of such a high class designer. "there is carthay.. it's five stars but it isn't really a stop and go for food. it's very fancy." penelope explained.

"mama ode's cafe is very good as well... it might not be as elegant as carthay but the food is outstanding."

“they probably just need another way to learn. there are whole books on different teaching methods —” she started, as if about to go into a whole spiel, before letting out a laugh. “but don’t worry, i’m not lecturing tonight. i had no idea i’d already graduated your class though, have i truly passed it all?” belle asked, feigning a gasp. “i really didn’t think i’d ever like wear this much pink but … you’re right, it’s not half bad.” she rolled her eyes good-naturedly when penny mentioned they should be jealous. “still, i think everyone looks wonderful tonight.”

penny let out a giggle when belle caught themselves going into lecture mode. it was nice how much she offered and how she was always willing to explain in depth the inner workings of things and her mind. she brought perspective to penelope who otherwise would just be jealous and angry about everything at all times. “with flying colors, my belle.” she said with a grin. “pink looks darling on you. you have to promise to wear it even more.”

“pfft, not everyone.” the blonde said looking around the room. she could pick out a handful just in her vicinity that she would change their outfit.

penny nodded pretending to be interested in the things the girl would use her precious dress for. the blonde had no use for any of those things. this dress was a work off art with all her time spent into it. “mhmm.. im sure.” penny replied, “it is my profession.. or at least it will be. i will be graduating with my degree in fashion design and merchandising in the winter. but i have many other talents. while i specialize in fashion i also: act, sing, and dance. and have plans of making myself a household name.” penelope stated matter-of-factly, “and what is it you do?”

“… so you can see parts of the art have been rostered over time, potentially using a mimetic technique so as not to overshadow the original baroque style of the painting,” kit pointed up at the large artwork with his pinky fingerl, the rest of his hand holding a glass. there was a pause, and it was clear he was excited for the next thing he said …

“and as i always say … if it’s not baroque, don’t fix it,” kit chortled, wiping an imaginary tear from his eye.

penelope listened to the man as he explained the art to her. it was nice that he went into such detail. this art was something he was passionate about as she was her designs. so it was nice (but boring) to hear. thankfully he was handsome so it made up for her slight lack of interest.

“oh brother.” she said shaking her head at his joke. he wasn’t handsome enough to make that work. “promise me you’ll stick to art history and leave stand up alone, okay?”

Donnie had the thought that he might be too tipsy when he realized he’d been staring at the ice sculpture for far longer than made sense. The thing was beautifully carved but he just couldn’t wrap his mind around it. “But what’s the point? It’s gonna melt anyway and then it’ll just be wasted water.”

“the point is it’s pretty to look at.” penelope said with a grin, “just like me.” she was very proud of her look. which was rather pointless to some.. wasted fabric on her long train and what have you. but it was stunning to look at. “i’m sure they’ll use the water for the plants or something... water the lawn or something.” she said waving off the idea. “it’s just water... are you one of those nature freak tree huggers?” she asked raising a brow.
