Object of the Week

New Year. New Series.

Object of the week, will be were I talk about 1 specific object that during that week was a must, a life savoir, or maybe I just used it a lot.

I will talk about that product, price (if I can remember), quality, where to buy, and so on. I hope you like it, and let’s start.

Okay so the very first object of the week it’s something new. Like I bought it yesterday. I bought this organizer because, well 1º-I love organizers, I don’t know exactly why, but there is something about it that just makes me happy, 2º – I use organizers a lot, especially with the blog. I schedule a lot of the posts, so they can be out on time (although sometimes I can’t even write them). So I would take a note in my organizer of what post is already schedule and to which day.

This organizer is by PaperBlanks. It’s my second one from this brand and I love it. It has a hard cover that closes up with a magnet and at the end of the organizer you have a little pouch where you can keep lose papers. It also comes with a little phone book, although I usually just take that off. I’m not that old fashion.

The theme of this one Mediterranean Cats, and it comes with a small note that says:

“Laurel Burch was a self-taught artist with an unmistakable style that was the manifestation of her love of life and fertile imagination. She created vibrant and moving themes with paint and paper, exquisitely embellished with gold and silver.”

The previous one I had was Alfonso Mucha themed, a Art Nouveau artist, which is my favorite.

This was a bit bigger that the one I have now so a bit harder to carry around with me at all times. I could not throw it away, it is way to beautiful. Alfonso Mucha is also the artist behind the picture that you see in my Nail Polish Collection Post, although you can only see the bottom part.

The great thing about this band is the quality. Yes the cool design help as well, but the paper is so good. Some organizers have such a thin paper that if you use a gel pen, you will ruin the back page. Another thing that I always consider is the origin of the paper. This brand only uses paper from sustainable forests and uses no acids in this process.

This organizer was €17,19 at Fnac, but you can buy it online (EU, USA. Other countries also available). Online, in the portuguese store, it costs €13,95.

The One that Changed My Life – Band

Music is always a very personal subject. Each person listen to the same band, to the same music, in a very distinct way. You connect with that music, mixing it with memories, making it completely unique.

Music also changes with your mood, age and environment. At a certain point you may prefer pop, and then change to rock or any other genre. It’s normal. It’s change, and your life revolves around changes.

But sometimes there is one band that follows you throughout your life, always with the same meaning, always with that feeling of belonging. And every new music is a new soundtrack for your life. That, is what you call the band of your life.

For me, that is Linkin Park.

I started listen to Linkin Park when I was 12, and till this day, they can still make soundtracks for my days.

When I first bought the Hybrid Theory cd I could not listen to anything else. All day, all night, on repeat. When I got to know all the songs, Crawling became my food. I could relate to it. I could feel it. I would put Crawling on repeat, and would listen to it, all night.

Then came Meteora, and once again, I felt like they knew exactly what to say. They had a song for every mood I was and for any problems I was facing. Either to make me feel better, or to just say “I get it, I know how it feels”. And sometimes that is all you need.

The years pass, new albums are released. I can be listening to Taylor Swift for weeks sure that, at that moment, that is the best soundtrack for it. But then I listen to Linkin Park, and it feels like I was part of it all along.

You revisit those feelings and even if they were sad, angry or just lonely, now they are nostalgic, remembering you that not so good moment in your life that you made it through stronger and wiser. This is what Linkin Park feels to me. Always a memory. Always a new chapter.

Maybe there will come the day, when their song mean nothing to me, but for now that it’s definitely not the case. Yes it helps the fact that they ARE an awesome band, and that their lyrics have actual meaning, actual important meaning. But this is for me, and probably for all the Linkin Park fans or it would be awkward.

For me all their songs are very personal. I always connect with the lyrics in a way or another. And it’s always way beyond the song for the romantic heart. It’s deeper, more meaningful, more personal and sincere. It’s always close to home and to all of the demons I faced, and still do. Most of the times, what I feel has nothing to do with the original meaning of the song. Crawling was written thinking about addiction and recovery, and how that all felt. But I was never an addict, and I was never in rehab. But I have dealt with depression and anxiety. So I do relate to the song, but not in the same way they did.

You can call them my therapists. I have 6 therapists, that help me with melodies and lyrics.

My Top Sports Related Movies

Hey guys

So a while back I did “My Top Movies to Watch on Christmas Eve“. Today is the day we talk about Sport related movies. This may not mean that the message or the main story is related to sports, but that sports are an important part of the story.

All the movies I mention I did watch. I would never recommend I movie I’ve never seen. That would make NO SENSE. So here they are (in no particular order).

Karate Kid

The true classic. I have lost count of how many times I’ve watched this movie. Every once in a while this movie pops on tv and I think “Hey, why not?!” and keep watching it. They did a remake in 2010, and nothing against Jackie Chan (mainly because I love him) but it’s not even close to the original one. Maybe because it was the first one I saw but still.

Million Dollar Baby

Okay so this movie has Hilary Swank… oh god yes! I love her! She is fearless and powerful. For me she was always a symbol of a strong girl/woman with self confidence a an amazing presence. And in this movie she nails it! I cried my eyes out, but that is nothing new to me. But you’ll cry too… don’t even dare judging me!

An amazing and powerful movie with a cast that makes you drop on your knees.

The Wrestler

When this movie came out, I remember people being all “oh Mickey Rourke is dead and gone, this movie is going to be terrible”… well… NO! This movies is beautiful and intense. You can feel the sorrow and regret, and the shame and despair. And the soundtrack by the master Bruce Sprinsteen. Can I hear an “amén”?! In case you don’t know what I’m talking about, I’ll leave the trailer and the soundtrack bellow.

Invictus

I love Rugby. I love Morgan Freeman. So there is no way this can go wrong. And it didn’t. This movies is so powerful. It’s a real story about how a sport can unite a nation, and put aside the differences that, some people, see in others. Even if you don’t like Rugby, you should see this movie.

The Blind Side

One of my favorite movies of all time. Here we learn about the sport, appreciation, family and the power of love. Sandra Bullock did an amazing job, that made her take an Oscar home, transforming herself into a real woman that adopt a real man, and gave him a chance in life. If you haven’t seen this movie, what the hell do you think you’re doing with your life?

My Nail Polish Collection

I need nail polish. Not only because it’s beautiful but because it stops my nails from break straight ahead to my finger. Yes it’s as painful as it sounds. So with time, I gather a lot of different nail polishes, from different brands and today I’ll show you the colors, the brands and which ones work the best and the worst for me. Sometime I blend colors so some of the polishes are not the “real” color, but I’ll let you know.

Andreia

Here in Portugal a lot of places sell this brand. A lot of people like this brand. Me… I’m okay with it. It’s definitely not my favorite and it doesn’t last that long, but it’s better than others that I have.

This polish lasts, on me, without starting to peel off, about 1.5/2 days. The darker colors last a bit more, 4/5 days.

This polish is in the color 115, and it is the original color. It wears as a bright pink, almost redish. Great for summer. I’m not that much of a pink girl, but this polish was a birthday gift.

This polish is in the color 53. I really like this color. It’s what I like to call Facebook Blue. A beautiful metallic with some silver highlights. I wear this color more during the Spring/Summer. Because it’s a bit darker, it lasts more than the pink.

Totally not the original color! The original color was 107 it was a baby blue. I hate baby blue. This polish came in a surprise box so it’s not like I could give it back. So I added a bit of a pink polish (that I’ll show you next) to try and make a Baby Purple. Although I like the final color, this is one of those polishes that last 2/3 days. Mixing colors appears to have that effect but sometimes it’s better have a color that you like but have to reapply, than to have a color that you just don’t use at all.

Ice

This polish is in the color 27. This was the color I mixed with the baby blue. To be honest, this is probably the WORSE nail polish I have. It also came in a surprise box and it lasts 1/2 days tops. No matter what base coat I use, or what method I use. It never lasts pass the second day. The bottle looks coll though. 10/10 would not recommend this.

Cliché

Now, because my nails are the crap that they are, I bought this set (next coming up) to see if they would be a miracle workers and make my mails pretty and strong. This is in the color 16 and I used it a couple of times now. It’s a decent nail polish but it’s definitely not a life changer. It holds on pretty decently, but it does not give that Gel look and feel, and most importantly that gel strength to your nails.

This is the top coat. There is only two great things to say about this polish: it smells like candy (with acetone tones of course) and makes you nails as shinny as ever. Besides that is a top coat like any other. It’s not the one I use every time, but if I ran out of the other, this will do the trick.

Kiko

This is my top coat, base coat, life coat… It’s the 3 in 1 Shine Nail Care. This does make a difference. My nail polish lasts longer and stay shinny for a longer time. As you’ll see, I use mostly Kiko nail polishes so that may also help with the time that it takes to peel.

This color is not the original, but very close to it. It’s the color 496 with a bit of black. I wanted a darker purple, plum color but they didn’t have it so I bought the closest and added black. This nail polish stays like a champ. It lasts all week (I usually do my nails every Saturday morning) and only in the last day or so, it starts to peel a bit of the corners. Totally manageable. Lately it’s one of my go to colors, since it’s perfect for Fall/Winter.

My color of life, color 275! I love black. Black shoes. Black Clothes. Black nails. It’s so simple and strong. So sophisticated and easy to wear. This is another champ. Lasts almost all week as the dark purple. And I use it almost every other week. It’s very reliable and it has a natural shine to it, that with the top coat it’s like… mirrors!

Another mix and match. The original is the color 286, and it’s a light burgundy, and again I wanted a dark one, so I added black. Now I don’t know if this is a problem of this color only, but this one never lasted as long as any other Kiko nail polishes. Even prior to adding the black. Every time I use it, I have to be extremely cautious so it lasts as much as possible.

Another color of life! I go to this color like a crow goes to shinny things. It’s so clean and sophisticated. It’s in the color 319. I confess that this color looks a bit strange with my skin, because my natural color it’s almost a bit yellow, so it’s definitely not the most flattering color, but I really don’t care. I use it anyway.

This is an oldy but a goody. It’s the color 478. It’s a very light beige color with metallic highlights. I used to use this color all the time. I would wear it for weeks at a time. But I don’t know why I stop using it that much and started using less of neutral colors. But it’s still one of my favorites without a doubt.

This screams SUMMER! It’s the color 338, a great blueish purple that holds up great in the nail! This pass Summer I used this color every other week, and I loved every second of it! If you all about neutrals ans pastel colors, this will be also amazing for the Winter, giving you that Winter Princess look. (I think I just convinced myself to wear this color tomorrow)

It’s great for New Years Eve. It’s great for Summer (that mermaid look). It’s just great! This is in the color 532 and I used it a lot in Summer for my mermaid feel. Because this has a lot of glitter it holds up even better lasting a week with no problem. Now taking it off it’s a whole different story. The great thing about the glitter, for me, it’s that prevent my nails from breaking even more. It’s so compact with all that glitter, that makes a thick protective layer.

And another glittery nail polish. This is an amazing gold in the color 480. Again, because of the glitter it creates that stronger layer that protect my nail. But this one, doesn’t last as well as the previous one does. Don’t ask me why! The good thing is that, because I’m that almost yellow tone, and because all the shine that the glitter makes, when it starts to peel off, it’s not as visible as the other colors. It doesn’t protect my nails as much, but it doesn’t shock as much as well, because only under the proper light, you can see that it’s peeling of.

So this is it. These are all my nail polishes. Yes I will have more, specially because I’m considering trowing some away, but for now it’s what I have.

#GirlLove – I love you!

I’m a huge fan of Lilly Singh, aka iiSuperwomanii. She is a fearless, powerful, funny woman that brings joy in some many levels.

One of her latest videos is about something that, to be honest, was always very strange to me. A lot of girls/women say they are feminists and that they fight for women equality and what not, but one of our biggest enemies, it’s us. We fight against each other. We call names. We start rumors. We can mean enough that we destroy one’s love for life. How can that be feminism? How can that be fair?

When I talk about myself I always say that one of my flaws is to like and trust everybody. And just by this is can see how f*cked up this world is. How can that be a bad thing?! Because we are raised and we grow in a world where it’s okay to hate and not trust other people. Because since we are young, we are taught that other girls are the competition. But for what? Men?! I really hope not because… ladies, look around! We are not in a men dry season. Maybe jobs then? Please common, if it wasn’t hard enough to be a woman in a company environment this days. We need to be someone else’s support. Only we understand what we are going through. Only we know how hard can be to be a woman and how, even then, we are powerful, and beautiful in so many ways. It’s enough. This cat fight has been going on for damn too long. How can thing improve to ourselves, if we are the firsts to make it worse and harder.

So let’s take all our power (which trust me it is a lot. We survive our period so we are some efing super heros) and make good. Let’s treat each other’s like we would like to be treated, because girllllllll… let me just tell you… that would solve so much things! Jealous is so ugly . Let’s be proud of each other. Let’s see in each other a role model. Let’s smile instead of giving sideways glances. Let’s take inspiration out of each other achievements. Let’s agree to be different and accept that difference because that is what makes us unique. Let’s end that “girls don’t know how to be friends” theory that guys have. We know. I know! I have great, amazing, beautiful and powerful girl friends. All so different and unique, and all perfect in there own way.

Let’s be inspired by Lilly Singh, and let’s spread the Girl Love.

The One that Change My Life – Movie

All movies give you a message, a feeling, a lesson. Some stay longer in your mind than others. Few change your life in such a way, that make you a better person. If you are lucky, and aware, you’ll find that movie. Maybe is not only one. It may be a few or even a lot. And you can discover them throughout your life or maybe, one day you’re at the movies and you realize “This is it!”.

This is mine.

The Blind Side. I’ve talked about this movie a couple of times now, but today will be the day when I tell you all that I love about it, and all that it taught me. But first a bit of background.

I’m 29 years old. I don’t have kids but I have 2 cats and 2 dogs that I love as such. I know that I’m the motherly type. I can feel it, I can see it in my actions and thoughts. And if there is an idea that drives me off the edge, is mothers who don’t want or don’t care about their kids. It drives me nuts. And I don’t care how old that “child” may be, they are always someone’s kid, and should feel the love of their parents.

Now, It’s been a couple of years since I watched this movie. Since I saw the trailer I want to watch if for a number of different reasons:

-Sandra Bullock,

-Leigh Anne Tuohy (that I knew from Extreme Makeover Home Edition)

-The story

-And the fact that is based on a true story (not all of it is as it happen, but the general message is).

Oh and did I mention Sandra Bullock?

When I finished watching the movie for the first time, my life was changed. The idea of family was completely updated in my mind. Blood is not always thicker than water. If the water is given with love, water can be so much thicker! The selfless act of one woman, in a cold night, to a completely, giant, stranger. The love for humanity that needed no last name, nor blood. The sweetest of hearts with the hardest of shells. From that moment on, my goal was to be half as that woman is. A true role model.

Some people may see things a little bit differently, like she was pushing Football on Michael, or that she was trying to mold him to her own figure. To her own ideals. But isn’t that a mistake a lot of loving parents do? When they want the best for their children, they take them through the best road they know, so their kids have success and happiness. Although sometimes that road is not the more suitable for that particular kid, but parents do the best they know. And at no point, he shows intentions of quitting football. So, resuming my opinion on Leigh Anne, she was a strong caring woman that did to Michael, what she would have done to her own children, which Michael was (if not by blood, by heart).

Michael. What a soft giant. Living in the middle of decadence, put aside by his mother that, without proper care, was so deep into drugs that could not see the loneliness in her kids eyes. Still he did the best he could. He washed his clothes the best he can. He knew how to stay out of trouble. He was so strong and so fragile at the same time. And how amazing it is to see him blossom with the help, love and support of his new family.

One of the moments that made that little light bulb light up on top of my head, that cause that Aha! moment is when the Tuohy family asks Michael if he wants to be adopted by them. Of course! Adopting is not only something available for small children, and it’s not an exclusive to orphans. Kids with poor conditions, that are neglected by their own parents, they deserve to me adopted too. To a loving family. To a brighter future. At that moment I decided, one day, when I can, I will adopt. Not a small child that is the first to be adopted. But the young man/woman that has, for his/her whole life, seen the younger kids being adopted, and they left behind. The ones that lost all hope that someone, out there, loves them. That see their own future in black in white while everyone else sees it in bright colors. It’s not fair that they feel like they don’t have the right to dream. It’s not fair that everyone else sees them as “unwanted” or less than anyone else. I want them. All of them, if I could. I want to be the one that gives them that unconditional love that they always thought they didn’t deserve it. The one that proves them the world is better than they think. And that they have all the right to dream with the brightest future they can think.

This is a dream of mine, that I’ll work hard to make it real. Because it’s not only a dream of mine, but a dream of so many young people that live in foster homes, or in precarious situations. It’s a dream of happiness and love. This movie game me a dream, a dream to make someone else’s dream come true. I dream to give someone a home, with all the love they that dream and a chance of a brighter future.

2015 Favorites

And 2015 it’s coming to and end. The time flies when you’re not looking.

Now it’s time to review the year. The moments that changed everything. That person that made everything that much fun and easier. And, obviously, all of those things that brighten our year. So here is my list of favorites of 2015 that surely will follow me into 2016.

Clothes

Black shinny jeans – H&M

I always wanted the almost leather looking jeans, and 2015 was the year I bought them. And oh my god… I absolutely love it. But that kind of love that you almost don’t wear it so it’s doesn’t get old and worn off. 2016 will bring me more of jeans like this. Oh yeah!

White Jacket – Salsa

What can I say about this jacket. It’s amazing. It’s warm. I love it. Just got it by the end of the year and it’s my got to jacket lately. It can’t be worn with very thick clothes, but you don’t need it anyway, because is that warm. It’s wears great and makes all of your outfits that much cooler.

Golden Glitter Shoes – Bershka

So this shoes have a story. One day I went to have lunch at a mall near where I used to work. I took the extra time to window shopping. I saw this shoes. It was love at first sight. I went in the store and tried them on. They didn’t fit that well, so I left feeling heart broken about it. When I was home I told this to my boyfriend and said that I might go back to get them. He said that it was better if I didn’t because then the shoes would hurt my feet and I would never wear them. I didn’t listen and bought them.I usually wear the 39 but I wasn’t sure because the 39 seem a bit big on me so I asked the guy that worked there if they would give in, and he said yes. So I bought the 38. Guess what? They hurt my feet like never before. The second time I used them I had to rush into a drug store to buy those dressings for when you feet are full of bubbles. It was that bad! But with time, they did gave in, and because the most comfortable shoes ever. Now I wear them a lot, they never hurt my feet and they look good as hell! Yeah!

4 Layer Necklace – Bershka

The same day I bought the shoes… I bought this necklace. Yes I can’t hold myself in a store. I love this necklace and used it almost everyday in the summer. And it was really cheap which is a plus.

Bag – Accessorize

This was my Christmas present from my Boyfriend. Although I was the one that chose it. He was roaming around the mall trying to find a gift for me so he decided that the best way was take a lot of picture of things that he saw, send them to me by email and let me chose. So I did. And I’m really happy with it. I love it and have been wearing it ever since I got it.

Bag – Adidas

Do I need to say anything else? This bag has been with me in different ootd’s, vacations, occasions. Since forever I wanted a this classic Adidas bag. But not only was hard to find, they were pretty expensive. This year, at my local mall, I saw an Adidas store and gave it a try. There were a lot of different bags, but I could find the classics, only new models with different patterns and shapes. I was so disappointed. Until I turn my head to the men section. Oh yes. There they were! I saw the Adidas blue and white, It’s wasn’t exactly what I dreamed off but they were there and I have no patient to wait. And then… there she was! The perfect black bag! The very last one. I think I almost cried. I didn’t even let the girl take the bag to the cashier… I want it to do it! I need no help! She may not be the fanciest bag… but it’s my love, my go to, my fit-everything-in. Love people… it’s love!

Makeup

Lipstick – Essence 07 Natural Beauty

I don’t know how much I talked about this lipstick already, but it deserves it. It has a great formula, an amazing color and is cheap. 3 in 1 glory! Just so you know how much I use this, it lost it’s place at my lipstick display. It’s permanently in my bag now. It’s great for any look. If your eyes are full on of if you are using nothing but some bb cream. 10/10 recommend this.

Eyeshadow Palette – Revolution Cosmetics

I bought this recently and it has my heart already. The colors are so pigmented and the full metallic/glitter ones are perfection. As you can see they have a lot of use, specially the glitter ones. What can I say… I’m a fool for shinny things. I’m like a crow.

Skin Care / Hair Care

Jungle Hair condicitioner

Lush, my Lush! This changed my life! And I mean it. My hair is a beast (in every sense of the word). Taming this is a challenge and keeping it hydrating is another war. But not anymore. Since I use Lush products (I use the Trichomania shampoo and Jungle Conditioner) I need nothing else to make my hair soft and smelling like heaven. I bought th R&B hair moisturizer and now the problem is, I don’t need it! If I use it my hair because a bit oily even. Say whattt?!?!?! Yes. I will have to wait until summer, when the hair has more damage because of the sun and the sea water, to wear it. Crazy… but that’s how it goes.

Bioten Tonic

This is amazing. First the smell is divine. It’s fresh and clean and soothing. Then the results are a thing from out of this world. Your skin feels moisturized and clean, like no tonic did before. Totally worth it.

Food

My birthday cake

Yes, I do like Minecraft. And yes, I paid much more than I needed to have this cake. And yes, this cake lasted a LONG time. Custom made cake with walnut dough and custard filling. Are you drooling yet? Yes, you should.

Vegetarian Chicken

How weird those this sound? But it’s great. Since I don’t eat meat, this christmas I had to be creative. I found this vegetarian chicken (made with chick peas and soy and… things) by this portugues company “O Talho Vegetariano” (the vegetarian butcher’s), and I decided to put it in the oven with some potatos and garlic and paprika. It’s was soooo good! It’s a bit expensive (this 160gr cost almost 7€) but great for some special occasions.

App

Yoga & Flexibility Workouts

This app is awesome. It’s has a lot of different Yoga exercises and you can start easy and progressively increase the difficulty. The program is design for 2 classes a week, but you can do it as much as you wish. NOTE: after the first lesson you will be hurting in places you didn’t even knew you had, but it’s worth it.

I love to watch “Americans got talent” or “The Voice” those types of shows, on YouTube. And I found this cutest couple ever and I’m in love ever since. They have great originals and they have amazing covers (I will link bellow my favorite of each). I totally recommend you to listen, but be warn, you might fall in love as well.

Yes I love romantic movies. And those a bit wear as well. But my boyfriend, that is romantic proof (trust me) loved this movie as well, so you can believe that this movies is beautiful, and magical, and poetic…perfect.

Fujifilm Instax Mini 80

Another present from “The Creature” (nickname I call my boyfriend, all in good fun, I promise), again, I chose what I would get. The film is a bit expensive and each has only 10 pictures, but you can buy the film from eBay and it’s around half the price. I practically only capture special moment with it, or special people. Still I love it dearly.

My cellphone – Huawei P8 Lite

I don’t have any pictures of it… because it’s what I use to take my pictures! With a 13mgpx camera… yeah, I use my cellphone. I’ve talked about my cellphone before, and how impressed I am with it. Way better than my previous phone, a Samsung. The price is also amazing, being way cheaper than a Samsung (for example) with the same characteristics. Because of the brand, a lot of people think they are no good, but let me tell you how wrong you are. It’ never crashes, it’s fast, with great cameras (13mg pixel back camera and 5 mg pixel front camera) with 8 1.2GHz processores and 2GB RAM. I said before and I’ll say it again, if one day I change cellphones, it will be for another Huawei.
