My hottest take is that people mistaking The Plot for Lore is a core reason that literacy within fandom is crumbling.
Lore is depth. Plot is width.
Mistaking the two makes people balk at the concept of partaking and turns them away. Those who position themselves as "real fans" for knowing "lore" when they are conflating it with plot actually turn away potential fans.
Not to mention that there is a wave of creative coming up who have been fed this confusion and now think that complexity is an alternative good storytelling, and wind up in a cart before horse situation.
The bastardization of lore as a concept is one of my biggest crrative pet peeves these days, and I think the root is that simple plot points used to get called lore ironically (funny!) but then youths started taking it literally (oh no!) and now people would call something that happened in Chapter One of a series of books "lore" unironically.
I know one of these days someone will cook up a fire video essay on the topic. 😂 Anywho, LORE! A relevant topic for some upcoming stuff.
Thought I’d show off my OC since my page is kinda based on her, her name is Needle Nurse :3
