dean and cas were dating in college, but have to go their separate ways after graduation (dean to the police academy and cas to graduate school). they’re still very much in love, but don’t want to put each other through the pain of being long distance, so when dean drives cas to the train station he proposes they meet back, in the exact same spot, in two years and see if fate is rooting for them. 

cut to two years later, they both show up in the main hall of the train station ready to pick up where they left off.

I half-expected a twist where Cas is late because he gets into an accident on the way, and Dean waits and waits and thinks that maybe Cas met someone else in their years apart. He’s leaving the station, broken-hearted, when he sees an ambulance a block away, his blood running cold as he starts to run because that’s Cas. It’s Cas they’re treating. He begs the EMTs to let him talk to Cas, which they only allow when Cas reaches for Dean. His eyes are soft and he’s murmuring “Dean” and it’s all Dean can do to hold onto his hand.

He stays with Cas the entire time and goes with him to the hospital, where they’re placed in a room and it takes forever and they both doze off without meaning to. Dean wakes up an hour later, slumped over the bed, his muscles stiff. He raises his head to check on Cas, only to find him awake and smiling back. “Cas,” he says - croaks, really - his voice hoarse from sleep or crying or both. Their hands are still entangled, he realizes. “I missed you so much.”

He’s never letting go.

(Cas is fine after getting stitches but Dean fusses over him anyway. It’s terribly obvious that they’re still in love, that absence only made the heart grow fonder. Dean gets a job at Cas’ local precinct and they date again while Cas finishes med school. Dean likes to pick Cas up from campus in his uniform and earns the nickname ‘Hot Cop Boyfriend’ from Cas’ classmates. Dean proposes after Cas’ graduation, and they move to a different city for Cas’ residency. When they finally get married - at the train station - Dean is Sergeant Winchester and Cas is Dr. Novak and it turns out that fate was rooting for them after all.)
