Have you ever spent any amount of time in a small time? Seems great, right? No city noise, less pollution, peace and quiet all around. Sometimes. I've lived in one for the past 10 years, and after a while, it starts to get to you.
For instance, I've always wondered what it is about this beautiful place that attracts low lifes, scum of the earth. Is there some website that only they know about? I'll never understand.
This morning one of them showed up at my house, looking for the owner, to inquire about renting. My fiancée told her we live there, so she asked for a number to contact our landlord. First of all, her number is on the giant HOUSE FOR SALE SIGN on the post. She proceeded to walk down the road to my office, where she clearly had no idea that I was the fiancée of the guy she had just spoken to, even though he had just told her. I suggested she go over to the store, maybe someone over there knew of somewhere to rent. I guess she didn't like that answer, because she went home and emailed my boss, asking her the same question.Â
I could also suggest she lay off the crack and get a fucking job, but that would be the obvious thing to do. She couldn't make eye contact with me and was constantly twitching. I had encountered her once before, while she waited for the bank to open. I prayed silently that it would open soon and she would leave.Â
We all struggle. I go in to work every day and I can't afford to own a house. In many cases, these pieces of shit own multiple properties, drive expensive cars, and never have to go to work. I'm thinking maybe I should become a big time drug dealer. What am I doing sitting behind a desk, when the big money is in pills and powder.Â
