(Open starter)
Diego sat in a corner of the crowded bar, a line of empty shot glasses lining the table and a bottle of wine half full in the centre. He was clearly jolly, laughing loudly at anything that caught his attention. He downed his final shot and stood unsteadily, throwing his arms out and shouting over the din; "Free shots for everyone! Everyone gets a shot on me!"
diegoofthevine:
Diego nodded, flinching a little as his arm moved and pain shot through him again.
âYeah, Iâm on the West End. I started out in Mexico, fresh from drama school, and moved out here when I got a job offer. Honestly, Iâve never looked back.â
He was quite glad of the questions; it distracted him from the pain, even if the man wasnât particularly chatty. To be fair, he did look exhausted.
âLong shift?â Diego asked, his eyes soft and sympathetic, âI imagine it never stops around here.â
The nurse gave him a small smile as he cautiously inspected the manâs arm â something that wasnât really his job anymore, but Misha knew that this could take a bit for a doctor to come around. Â Â âOffer from out here to a drama student? You must be amazingly good.â Â Â , he conversed, letting his arm go for now.
âYeahâ  He nodded slightly, dark circles under his eyes visible as ever, but continuing to smile friendlily.  âSomebody has to keep this hospital up and running.â
"Oh, no, I meant I started in theatre in Mexico straight out of drama school. I worked there for five years or so before I got an offer out here." He glanced down at his arm and frowned. "So, is it bad?"
The nurse really did look exhausted. Diego felt sorry for him, knowing that the hospitals were so understaffed and the staff who did work there were under so much pressure. Diego would never be able to do what this man did. "I suppose so, but who looks after the people who look after the rest of us?"
đ
What was my muse's last serious relationship like?Oh, you had to choose the hard question, right? I've only been in one serious relationship, back home in Mexico. As far as I knew, everything was wonderful. We did everything together; movie dates, dinner dates, just hanging out doing our own stuff in the same space. Literally everything. I loved him with everything I had.Hell, I almost gave up my chance to go to the West End to be with him. I asked him to come with me of course, but he wanted to stay in Mexico, so I said I'd stay with him. At least, I would have done, but then I caught him in bed with another man. I was heartbroken, and I've never been in a relationship since.

43; Have you ever regretted kissing someone?Oh god yes. Hasn't everyone? Or am I just unlucky?47; Do you miss the way things were six months ago?I mean, I'm all for living in the moment, so I don't tend to look back, only forward. But six months ago I had a theatre gig and now I'm stuck working as a waiter so... Maybe in this instance, six months ago was a better time.28; What is something you currently want right now?A job offer. I want to get back into what I love, not this dumb waiting job that I hate...1; What would you name your future daughter?Luna. Definitely. It's a beautiful name.
42: Where did you get the shirt/sweatshirt youâre wearing?
I mean, I guess this is an honesty game, right? So I have to say PrimarkâŚ

Diego sat on the edge of the empty bed, following the silent order of the nurse. A sheepish smile pulled at the corners of his mouth.
âI fell.â He paused, unsure if he should continue with the explanation or not. Finally deciding that transparency was probably the best policy, he continued. âI fell from the stage during rehearsalsâŚâ
Quite frankly, it was embarrassing. As someone who enjoyed extreme sports and, quite frankly, crazy stunts, it was pretty stupid that heâd managed to fall off the stage.
He disinfected his hands, the millionth time today, and looked at the manâs arm. There wasnât all too much he, himself, could do at the moment with all the doctors busy right now.  At least the paper work would be done beforehand, Misha thought as he wrote down the description.
âYou from West End?â, he asked, partly out of routine and curiosity. He looked up to search for a doctor to clear him for x-rays but was not met with anyone. More waiting, then.
Diego nodded, flinching a little as his arm moved and pain shot through him again.
"Yeah, I'm on the West End. I started out in Mexico, fresh from drama school, and moved out here when I got a job offer. Honestly, I've never looked back."
He was quite glad of the questions; it distracted him from the pain, even if the man wasn't particularly chatty. To be fair, he did look exhausted.
"Long shift?" Diego asked, his eyes soft and sympathetic, "I imagine it never stops around here."
diegoofthevine:
Diego held up his hand in a gesture of surrender, the only one he could move; as the other arm was tied up in a hasty sling, bone sticking out at an odd angle.
âItâs just, I canât see anyone else around, so I was looking for someone to help me outâŚâ
His eyebrow raised, the rest of Mishaâs face seemed to stay unfazed by the manâs injury. Of course not the worst thing heâd seen in the ER. He sighed, knowing that once he would start with this guy he wouldnât be able to just leave. That wasnât him. Â Â âYeah, rightâ Â His hand goes through his hair, a nervous tick, before he gestured towards an empty bed, abandoning the other man. Â Â âSo whatâs this?â Â
Diego sat on the edge of the empty bed, following the silent order of the nurse. A sheepish smile pulled at the corners of his mouth. "I fell." He paused, unsure if he should continue with the explanation or not. Finally deciding that transparency was probably the best policy, he continued. "I fell from the stage during rehearsals..."
Quite frankly, it was embarrassing. As someone who enjoyed extreme sports and, quite frankly, crazy stunts, it was pretty stupid that he'd managed to fall off the stage.
Unnerved was one way to describe Misha right now. He was supposed to be gone half an hour ago, yet he was still stuck at the E.R., running into people who werenât supposed to be his concern anymore. Â âIâm not here for another shiftâ, he said absently, patching up a man groaning in pain. As his annoyance of him grew, he stepped closer;Â âAnd this close toââ Misha saw the person walk towards him before he elaborating on what he was going to do and looked up instead. Â Â Â Â Â âWhat?â
Diego held up his hand in a gesture of surrender, the only one he could move; as the other arm was tied up in a hasty sling, bone sticking out at an odd angle.
"It's just, I can't see anyone else around, so I was looking for someone to help me out..."
âOh, God. Iâm so sorry. Are you okay?â His mind had been somewhere else as he walked, steps basically autonomous by now. Forgive the boy. His world had been turned upside down. âŚand then there were the dreams⌠Qâs hands went out, steadying the person heâd bumped into.
Diego had been heading home from an audition, mind in a turmoil, picking over everything that he could possibly have done better, when he suddenly found himself crashing into another man, looking as bewildered as he did.
"Sorry! I should have been watching where I was going..."
The evening shift (open starter)
{diegoofthevine}
Diego gave a little nod and refilled her glass, sliding it back across the bar towards her. He noticed her watching him and raised an inquisitive eyebrow, shooting her a charming grin.
âLike what you see?â he teased, pouring himself a shot after checking that none of the other staff were watching.
He raised the glass towards his conversation partner and knocked it back.
âSo am I one of the irritating ones?â
he was almost too good looking; it wasnât the sort of beauty she preferred â his was a more conventional sort: dark hair, tanned skin && an easy smile perfect for toothpaste commercials. he had the sort of face meant for billboards. odette liked faces meant for polaroids.
â please, â she scoffed, sipping from her second g&&t. â youâre about as good looking as every struggling actor in this damn city. â odette spoke from experience. her mother had been beautiful too. once. before the bright lights had l e e c h e d away her glamour to reveal the sad woman beneath.
â youâve certainly demonstrated potential to be. â
"Ouch!" Diego chuckled, placing a hand over his heart, feigned shock marring the features of his face, "I'm not going to pretend that didn't hurt."
He winked, clearly only joking with the customer, and went back to cleaning the glasses behind the bar.
"I'll have you know, I was quite the star back in Mexico, so *struggling* is a bit of an exaggeration."
He leaned an elbow on the bar, propping up his head with his hand, looking into the woman's eyes, a playful smirk tugging at the corners of his mouth.
"If I'm only showing potential to be irritating, then I'm obviously either trying too hard, or not hard enough. I'm not quite sure which."
Dangerous stunts (Open)
diegoofthevine:
Diego looked around the room, eyes sparkling mischievously. It looked exactly like his sort of scene. Karoline certainly knew how to have a good time.
âLooks like great fun,â he grinned, âExactly my kind of place. Now, let me buy you a drink, to thank you for the invitation.â
âI wonât say no to a free drink,â Karoline said as they made their way to the bar. âI like white russians. They do them the best here.â
Leaning on a stool and waiting, she looked around t the crowd that night. One could certainly not say that there wasnât something a little off about everyone there; but that was half the fun. Some of the people she recognized and had spoken to previously she knew to be petty thieves or vandalists. Others were just artists looking for inspiration everywhere. Still yet others were just weird people. Nudging Diego, she indicated a man with the nod of her head and said, âLast time I was here, he kept talking about how he was going to steal an alligator from the zoo. But I havenât seen any news stories about a missing alligator; he must have lost his nerve.â She giggled girlishly.
Diego grinned and shoved his way through the crowd to the bar, signalling to the bartender and asking for two white russians. "Well, if they do the best white russians, then I *must* try one."
He followed Karoline's gaze around the room, but everyone was a stranger. It was someplace completely new, the atmosphere buzzing with excitement, and Diego felt so at home among the crowd of people, even if he didn't know a single one.
"Steal an alligator?" He quirked an eyebrow, let out a soft chuckle. "Why on earth would he want to do that?"
Dangerous stunts (Open)
diegoofthevine:
âNever!â Diego grinned and stepped back to let Karoline climb up the ladder first. âSo, is this your usual haunt to bring new friends to, or am I just lucky?â He stepped onto the bottom rung of the ladder and easily climbed up behind his companion, eager to see what awaited them inside.
Karoline laughed. âI only bring the strange ones here; normal people tend to balk at the alleyway,â she answered, knocking on the wooden board in front of the window. A big surly man moved it to the side and inspected them gruffly. Karoline smiled demurely, waiting for him to move aside. When he did she climbed through the window and led the way down a darkened hallway, bare of any decoration but peeling wallpaper. At the end of the corridor was another door, which she pushed open to reveal blasting music, dancing people, and energetic bartenders making cocktails. She turned and smiled at Diego. âWhat do you think?â
Diego looked around the room, eyes sparkling mischievously. It looked exactly like his sort of scene. Karoline certainly knew how to have a good time.
"Looks like great fun," he grinned, "Exactly my kind of place. Now, let me buy you a drink, to thank you for the invitation."
The evening shift (open starter)

Diego shrugged. Maybe she did have a point. After all, hadnât he been complaining to himself all night about the customers, and about his work companions?
âPerhaps youâre right. I deal with all sorts in here, so maybe Iâve learned to be patient with everyone. So, G&T?â
He fell silent as he mixed the drink and placed it in front of her.
âI suppose youâre not in the mood for continuing our chat, huh? It makes the time pass so much faster, I find.â
the drink was well balanced, not that odette noticed as she downed the drink â nor would she have cared. the glass came back down to the counter with a decisive clink.
â iâll take another, â she gestured with a hand wave.
while he made her drink again, odette followed his work, eyes alight with mild curiosity. one shoulder lifted in a half hearted shrug â the movement was sharp, angular, not quite as graceful as the smooth walk sheâd used gliding in. her movements were sweeping and lovely when they were big, but the smaller ones were always little hurried and jilted.Â
â i do like chatting with people. just not irritating ones. âÂ
Diego gave a little nod and refilled her glass, sliding it back across the bar towards her. He noticed her watching him and raised an inquisitive eyebrow, shooting her a charming grin.
"Like what you see?" he teased, pouring himself a shot after checking that none of the other staff were watching.

Diego chuckled at the girlâs complete understanding of the situation. He appreciated her open attitude, her ability to call it exactly how she saw it. He supposed he owed her honesty in return.
âYeah, youâre right. My cheer has severely run out for today,â he shrugged, âAnd I guess itâs better for both of us if I stop with the charade. However, just because itâs late and Iâm tired, that doesnât mean I donât care about your comfort. Not because looking after the customers is my job, cause frankly I couldnât care less about the job at this point, but because I genuinely donât like seeing people in discomfort. Is that so hard to believe?â
He went back to cleaning up the glasses that had been left behind on the bar, trying to get the place as clean as possible now so that there would be less to do later when the customers left.
âCan I get you a drink or something while you wait?â he asked the newcomer, almost as an afterthought.
oh dear lord. her lip curled, brows drawing together in a sharp v. sheâd pay a generous tip (if she could have afforded it) just to have him shut up about his philanthropic attitude. at least he offered her a drink â perhaps he wasnât entirely hopeless. â g&&t. â a final swipe through his instagram her emails and she finally chucked her phone in her jacket pocket.Â
â and just for the recordâ â please. odette loved giving her unsolicited opinion. â âi do find it hard to believe. people are selfish. itâs not a moral judgement, just a fact. â she shrugged. â maybe youâve just gotten used to it because of the whole customer service thing. âÂ
Diego shrugged. Maybe she did have a point. After all, hadn't he been complaining to himself all night about the customers, and about his work companions?
